Could there be a merger with Tamriel Rebuilt?

Submitted by Retlaw on

Hi there, I am new to this forum and have contributed absolutely nothing to the project besides being an instant fan. Please forgive me if this is a question that has been asked before.

I am sure most of you have been aware that there exists something called the tamriel rebuilt project that aims to create the entire morrowind mainland and has existed for 13 years. While they are far from complete, they have created some impressive assets. http://i.imgur.com/ynq5a.jpg here is a map of ht\ere accomplishments so far.

But the enthusiasm for that project has one rather stale, while this project seems to be booming. My question therefore is, could maybe the Skywind project and the Tamriel rebuilt project join forces? both groups would benefit from the cross pollination of talent, and the tamriel rebuilt project would benefit greatly from the increased enthusiasm for their project. Meanwhile the Skywind people would gain the advantage that they can now market their mod as not merely a remake of Morrowind, but as an entire new game with the mainland added.

This is just a thought and I am sure is is overly optimistic of me. But I just wanted to throw it out there as a possibility that can me considered.

We dabbled in the idea awhile back, but Skywind has progressed a lot in terms of graphics, that Tamriel Rebuilt mainland wouldn't look right. Way beyond the scope of what we are capable of as a team. Would take a further 4 years to implement if we were trying to get it up to Skywind standards.

Tamriel Rebuilt will forever remained only enjoyed within Morrowind.

It's a lot of work for the Skywind team for just Vvardenfell, not mentioning the expansions and especially Tamriel Rebuilt.

Plus, Tamriel Rebuilt is far from being finished themselves. They have still only released the eastern mainland and they started the project since before Morrowind was released.

isnt tamerial rebuilt a bit usless nowe whit eso

Nope, ESO barely covers all the provinces. From what I've played its just specific areas in each of the regions. Nothing like the whole of Tamriel that we all crave so desperately :P

I played ESO briefly, tried to get up to Necrom. Found out that part of the mainland wasn't in it, and that Mournhold was a mear shadow of what it once was. So I dropped the game and haven't gone back.

Not in the slightest. Not only because of the things mentioned in the previous posts, but because TR has its own view of how the mainland Morrowind looks (based on Morrowind and things like PGE) and are not just creating a landmass, they're writing full quest lines, factions, developing cultures, etc.

It is a reference for years to come

Oh God...how bad is Mournhold? I eventually decided to pass on ESO until it goes F2P, but I may not even bother if they've gutted the best parts of MW.

I honestly don't mind the zoning in ESO.

Yeah it's not the entirety of Tamriel, but Morrowind wasn't the entirety of Morriwind either, just the island of Vvardenfell.

So what if you don't get to explore the entirety of any given province; you get a bunch of hold-sized portions of several provinces instead.

And I think that's awesome.

Mournhold was a mear shadow of what it once was. So I dropped the game and haven't gone back.

i am not suprised that Mournhold is different in eso because eso is 1000 years before skyrim and about 800 from morrowind  so it is reasonable that Mournhold is different and smaller and it makes all sense that the city has expanded in 800 years...

ESO  should not to be used to  compare with TES games because its timeline is so distant from those games that so many things can change during that time(so cities could exist in ESO and no longer exist in TES games, or the other way around)... but that is just my opinion.

scotty35503 If you want to play ESO be prepared to see something different, if you are expecting to see another morrowind perhaps you will be disappointed... But like Denevir said try it yourself

Mournhold would actually be about the same. The whole thing was built as a temple complex for Almalexia (the god).

Almalexia (the city), on the other hand, is Rome to Mournhold's Vatican and has likely expanded in the last millennium.

ok fair enough maybe Mournhold shouldnt have changed that much...

( for those who want to try ESO) the point is the majority of Tamriel could have changed in those years so dont expect to see the same things in ESO that appeared in TES games...

I have to say, having read some of the books and looked at some of the quests, I agree with Toesock (member of the lore community) that ESO may be one of the best things to happen to lore as represented in-game since Morrowind!

All of the armours still look like crap though :P

I think we can all agree on that. ;)

Yeah the alliances are particular well conceptualized in ESO, like Japan and North Korea forming an army to battle against the likely duo of Israel and Iraq. Whaaa whaaaa.

One of the many things that really bugged me was that it felt like it was set in a Skyrim timeline, I mean 1000 years before hand!! Literally nothing in the world has changed.

Don't forget that the books are anachronistic.  An ashlander merchant of the Zainab tribe of the time of Morrowind wrote 'The Money Game' that appears in ESO.  Or some book like that.

Besides, you have to admit there's a HUGE reason where this (in some cases overblown perhaps) hatred came from. It's the promo videos. I mean come on. This is the worst mediocore fantasy crap I've ever seen. Even if the game is not like that the bad taste still stays. Transformer barbarian, Katarina from League of Legends (what elven race is that anyway?) and rejected concept art from Assassin's Creed dancing around and doing stupid stuff. Not to mention they made Dunmer look like those blue kittens from Avatard... This is where the hatred comes from, bad marketing.

The game itself even though not as bad still lacks in terms of style to appeal to me, and those alliances seem very gamey and far stretched. Nah, I'll read on some lore from it and basically that's it.

ESO has good stuff and bad stuff. Where ESO really shines, however, is in its metaphysics. There's some delicious, timey-wimey fuckery going on in ESO, which is implied to be taking place during a dragon break. Don't like the alliances? Ignore them! In your C0DA something else happened during the mid Interregnum period, and it's perfectly valid. Anachronistic books? Time in the Aurbis is often nonlinear; the Jills just haven't found them and put them in their proper place yet.

Oh, did I mention that there are direct references to the obscure texts (The Loveletter from the Fifth Era, and The Seven Fights of Aldudagga, to be specific)? Because it's awesome! In fact, I'll just stick a link to a thread on the subject here: http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1494940-good-eso-lore/

You're the other end of the same stick Den, you seem to justify anything TES related with really far stretched ideas (like the design of elven and glass armours in Skyrim) :P I played many games, many, many, many, many. Especially RPG's. I also got into many fantasy/sci-fi universes. Perhaps you need to get out of TES from time to time to get a perspective to see that not all about it is so great, and especially lately, and that there are games that pulled off worlds just as complex. The high expectations come from high quality stuff that we used to get. And we still get, just not that much from Bethesda anymore, there are still some great games coming out, ones that can move us and have a real meaning and style. And Gods damn you for picking on demanding audience. They're endangered species you know!

That elven chick is not a High elf, she doesn't look like one. High elves have golden skin, I thought a loremaster would know that... And I've never heard of any with red hair either. Maybe in Oblivion. But if we were to base the appearances of races on Oblivion we'd find out that no race in Tamriel is able to grow a beard for example. Only Sheogorath has enough Daedric powers to shape-shift into a bearded man. But anyway, I think I found her race is after all: idealised human girl (not even a woman, mind you), a hollywood star with pointy ears. Childish face, pointy ears, big eyes in a pretty colour - yup, that appearance fits the lore of that race. Cheap playing on the hormones of young male audience doesn't appeal to me, but maybe that's just because I'm aware of it due to my area of education. The hooded acrobatic fashion designer, still looks pretty Assassin's Creed to me. And the nord even has autobot signs on his shoulders. I'm all for nods towards cultures, but it's a nod towards Conan the Barbarian, cliche false viking imagery and trucks.

Now let's take something that is completely other way around. Something that doesn't copy, but is copied. Take a look at this trailer. It's kept in consistent style (even if overblown), it's extremely athmospheric with it's long beautiful establishing shots, it takes its time because it knows what it shows is good and doesn't need to shake car keys in front of your face to keep you interested. With this kind of pacing, athmosphere, narration, aesthetics - that's how you sell epicness.

ESO armours still look like crap, they really do. Mix of some of the worse of Skyrim design with what I've seen in countles times in every other mmo, no particular style to them, and neither do they interestingly portray the cultures. Just a bunch of random edgy metal pieces put on a man. No idea where this horrible mannerism came from, but it's E V E R Y W H E R E. If you like it when everything looks the same it's your call, I for one do not. Let's get a random pick, the Redguard armour. Does any feat about it stand out as unique? No. Does anything suggest that Hammerfell is a desert environment, which would impact culture and practical uses of the set? No. Does it look practical for combat? Not in the slightest. Does it look comfortable? Hell no. Does it look stylish, does its shape or silhouette please the eye much? Nope (that's the only subjective part here by the way). Is it different from other armours in the game? Not much. Have you seen similar things in the past? Countless times. This is how you define bland and generic, ideas that take no risks or creativity, don't have any thought put into them. I thought by now you'd be familliar with how much thinking armour designing process requires. Now take a look at this concept for TR - the Ansei Warriors. This is the level of imagination that was put into TES years ago, and now it's gone, replaced with close found and popular references. That's why Ayleid armour looks exactly like elves from Helm's Deep, that's why Skyrim decided to focus on dragons. I'm not saying everything is bad design-wise, some locations in ESO seem really interesting, quite a few things in Skyrim had really great style (while some were really bad)... But genericness, in armour design at least is undeniable here - and it's the only real accusation I had towards ESO, but you for some reason decided to defend the lore by calling me a whiny bitch.

Oh, and I was never hating on ESO by the way. I hate Oblivion. About ESO I just don't care. I won't play it anyway, mmo mechanics and bad graphic design just kill all my interest.

I definitely think TES Online has some good things to take from it, but we have to remember that it is still a spinoff from the main series, and seems to be forced to generalize things as a result of its large scale and MMO gameplay. Some of the results of this are a lack of unique focus on individual cultures, as would occur with the development of a single province per game. I would consider that with any inconsistencies of established ideas that occur for the aforementioned reasons, the main series should have a higher priority. And I agree that bias should not be a deciding factor in TESO hatred, but some of its inconsistencies are evident in gameplay. For example, I have yet to find any npc in the Ebonheart Pact of any of its races who does not support the pact religiously, other than an obscure out of game mention of illegal slave trade continuing in Morrowind. Perhaps this will change in part with an addition of a Telvanni region, but having existed for 10 years so far and without major tension, it doesn't feel like an alliance of convenience on the verge of collapse. And there is still the problem of time traveling authors, which seem to predict future events long before they occur.

Mind-shortcut. Elves from Rivendell (for some reason led by a guy from Lórien), who appeared in Helm's Deep, right before the final battle against the forces of Isengard. Can be seen in The Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers - movie adaptation by Peter Jackson from 2002. HAPPY NOW?!

And all the elves died apparently. Except Legoland.  Because that was a stupid decision to veer from the book on that part.  I'll overlook it though because they also didn't include Dil Bombatom, thank God.

lol jk

Bombadil was Bombastic, like Tolkien didn't know what this book's going to be like yet. BUT, the old forest, the living Willow and the Barrows were freaking awesome and I missed them greatly. Run from Nazguls and get into even bigger trouble - priceless.
