Slaughterfish and Open citys

Submitted by YuvonDovah on

I'd just want to ask if there is going to be open cities as there were in Morrowind, but unlike Skyrim and Oblivion.

Also, when I play Morrowind I'm always scared of the water, as there is profound amount of Slaughterfish which are deadly to low levels - this was non-existent in Skyrim, never once was I frightened of a Slaughterfish. I hope these are both included, the sense of 'should I go through the water or go around' was very immersive.

Water in general, I always find to be very immersive.

Also underwater models can reach much more polygonal and can be made into something attractive by adding plants/animals with vital ingredients (I think team should make unique treatment-spells for each disease as example).

Yuvon are you essentially asking if cities are in different cells or not, (cities in oblivion and Skyrim were classified as interior cells I think) because if that's the case I believe for the most part there sticking to morrowind's open feel. Also for sake of using levitate and looking in to cities, if closed off such as skyrims world they would look weirdly unrendered. As for slaughterfish they are as cliffracers were in morrowind also going to be very present in skywind. (Curse Cliffracers)

Currently, they're open cities. But closed cities is a good option because it's much friendlier.

Morrowind isn't meant to be friendly!

think no 1 wants to really wants close the city's even if the performance go down whit it and the got no walls around them ore something like skyrim and oblivion

I'd prefer closed cities, personally. "Friendly" as in performance. One city is a lot, so for the game to load the exterior land and a city at once, it's a bit much, but one at a time is good.

But then appears run into the issue of people levitating over city walls.

All alteration spells is one of three interesting peaks of MW.

I really want this flight style http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/15775/?
Or may be some one can realize it like air swimming or hovering.
Really hope that will not be air walking.

That's why we'll have invisible walls about 500m high :P

Wouldn't that interfere with Icarian Flight?

I agree with LA only on the sake of performance, as open cities ran smoother in Morrowind due to it's engine not containing to much material, however in this engine it would be best for framerate if they were closed hense the approach on Oblivion/Skyrim. Although it would be nice if down the "road" separate ESP's were created, one for open (for beast computers) or closed for those who want to play Skywind, but due to most cities being in the same "exterior" cells (open) effect their framerate. Lastly I thought over the whole "what if I use levitate over a town/city that is closed off" deal and came to the conclusion of having it look like whiterun from outside (look depends on graphic settings). -Most people (not myself) might not have High-end computers to handle open cities, why punish them.

So basically, if they levitate over the edge, without the open cities plugin, it's their fault. That being said, I stand by my idea of putting invisible walls.

So last thought and possible final post to this thread, I would suggest holding these idea's until the opportunity arises to let other builds be worked on first. Then when Morrowind's landscape is close to finalized (A ways off) have a new (or continue this) thread to come to the cities final product. (whether it be open, closed or optional plugins). I would lean towards the different plugin ideas but again that should be decided when Skywind is further in development.

Lastly yes the invisible walls idea is a great plan if implemented correctly, as it's used in almost every Bethesda game.

I say that if we're insisting on closed cities, make a dome or something above the walls similar to a cave enterence so that they're transported inside the city.

This also raises the question on places like Vivec, which doesn't have any walls.

Nice dome idea that would be nice if it could be made to do that.

Also Vivec in my opinion should be open regardless, as it seems too big of a world space to separate like the other towns and cities. There really isn't any easy or good looking way to close Vivec off. (At least the other towns/cities are small enough and could be walled off without it looking bad)

You could have a crescent wall at the land entrance (excluding Ebonheart) that closes off that cell but a LOT of concept and time would have to go into making it work, so if anything that feels like a project to be done post release.

This is purely a suggestion.

RED-wall/north cell boundary (X-entrance) Also their could be water gates on the wall to allow boats through.

GREEN- cell boundary (swimming past "green" boundary loads new cell?)

BLUE- rework of the docks? Create more docks for immersion maybe?
