Achemy options

Submitted by °†°Death°†° on

I enjoyed having a portable alchemy kit which gave players the option to craft while on the road, the new table set is completely unappealing and takes away from the experience. I would like to see a portable system created that gave you the option to craft potions near campfires or other heat sources such as candles. Alchemists did this in our world in the past, they would apply heat to calcinators containing plant matter to extract 'salts', and apply heat to alembics ( a type of retort ) to distil liquids.I still use my mortar and pestle to grind herbs in day to day life, it would be easy enough to recreate and modify the alchemy system from Morrowind and give the tools a new look similar to Oblivions beautiful clear glass tools, but with a Morrowind theme(also novice/Grand Master sets).

Secondly, I would like to see alchemic effects brought back such as fortify jump, slow fall, fortify intelligence, fortify speed ect.

Thirdly, alchemic ingredients should have more than four effects, this would allow for more options when crafting potions and poisons, and give a more realistic feel to the world since plants and minerals have many properties not four.

Thank you for considering this.

There are already discussions here about trying to create and use hand held alchemy gear. So far it hasn't been implemented yet. Fortify and other effects only work if the game engine allows us to "fortify" said perks/abilities. Lastly, the box which displays the 4 effects of the ingredient may not be adjustable. So a fifth effect may not be seen by the player when using the alchemy table (or hand helds). That issue is something that would need to be tested. So I guess I can take a crack at it.

No go. When adding a 5th effect, you get the error message "The Magic Item already has maximum number of effects (4)".

1) Stationary should be better and table need to be necessary.
2) However will be good if some additional moveable parts can give you some alchemistical perk bonuses.

I could give it a shot.

There are currently mods out there that do most of what you said in the initial post, and would work in conjunction with skyrim because of how they implemented their systems and items. Skyre and frostfall come to mind.

As for the more than 4 effects on an ingredient, I want to say that's a hard coded thing into skyrim, that we can't edit. Even if we could tack on more than 4 it kind of gets screwy once you take the ai into account. With the amount ingreds in the game, let alone skyrim's, you'll have plenty of options.

I have read all of your posts, it seems like this will be difficult to accomplish although if it can be done that would be great. I have thought of a possible way to add extra effects, if a sub menu can be attached to an ingredient that can only be accessed by using a tool such as an alembic, calcinator, or mortar and pestle to extract the 'subtle' effects of any ingredient, then the extract could be used at an alchemy station. Could the appearance of the alchemy table be changed so it looks like it belongs in Morrowind?

If any of you talented modders can do this it would be appreciated. Thanks.

I spoke to Digital about this a while back.

There are survival mods out there that allow you to set a fire and such with a hotkey. We could use MCM or w/e that mod is called, and make a Skywind alchemy hotkey. MCM would just have to be a requirement for Skywind. I think it is already anyway for factions.

You can't make misc items useable, which is what the alchemy items currently are. Torches ore misc items if i recall, but they're also currently light. Soul gems are also misc items, but they use their own hotkey too. I haven't played Skyrim in a long time, so current me if I'm wrong on anything.

You are right, you cannot use miscellaneous items in menu, however you can use some out of menu such as the sigil stone, dwemer lexicons, and lockpicks in certain locations. So would it be possible to create a calcinator and alembic that when dropped next to a light source (within 3 ft.) would be able to be accessed by clicking on the object giving you the option to use or take the item? Also could the items automatically stand upright like some lamps I have seen? The mortar and pestle should be able to be used anywhere in a similar fashion, although with fewer effects listed if this can be done.
