Translation into German

Submitted by Björn on

Hi, I am new and want to introduce myself. I am from Germany and I love Morrowind and would like to translate Skywind into German. There is a tool called TES-V-Translator. With the help of this tool it is possible to save the translation into a text file. This text file works like a dictionary (ID based), so it is possible to automatically translate the latest .esp/.esm-file and you do not have to start all over again if a new .esp/.esm-file is released. Another advantage of this tool is that everyone can simply download the text file and translate their .esp/.esm-file automatically.

I have the German version as well as the English version of Morrowind (GoTY), so I can use the original German text for the translation. It would be great if you can send me the files so I can start to translate them.

PS: I have already postet this message here, but got no answer. Perhaps you did not recognized it, so i made this new topic.

TESVTranslator is a great translation tool but it doesn't recognize natively any other esp format than the one from Skyrim. You may contact the author (McGuffin) to improve plugins management or give a try to other 3rd party tools such as ESP-ESM Translation.

Sorry, I don't understand your comment. The Translator works great with the Skywind.esm, I've tested it with the 0.9.0.1-version I had on my PC. You can easily translate the text (copy and paste from the Morrowind GoTY DV) and save the changes into a new dictionary-file. So there is no problem with this tool.

Edit: I have added the dictionary-file, so you can see for yourself. I have translated only a small part, but if you send me the latest .esm-file I can continue.

Edit 2: I have added also a Screenshot, so you don't need to install the Translator.

Edit 3: Ok, I take the silence as a "No, we don't want a translation into German." If you change your mind contact me via email.

Oh, I misunderstood. I thought you wanted to take both the english and german Morrowind.esm original files, then build a dictionary using the Esp compare feature, then use this dictionary to automate the biggest part of Skywind.esm translation. And in this case TESVTranslator doesn't support the Morrowind esp/esm format. So, I was only trying to give you an alternative to circumvent these limitations.

Of course, using TESVTranslator the way you do will work. But you'll have to translate each text one by one, and it'll be an extremely long and ungrateful task.

The Skywind translations topic was already discussed a few months ago (I can't find the topic). FWIW, Skywind devs are focused on the original US version. Localizations will have to be handled and supported by volunteers from each foreign communities.

When the time will come, I'll probably handle and support the french version.
