Origin/source of required games

Submitted by Denerynn on

Couldn't think of a better title.

Anyway, I saw that I need Oblivion, Shivering Isles, and Morrowind with Bloodmoon and Tribunal. I have all of them.

However, Morrowind is on Steam (got the GOTY 2 years ago at christmas), and Oblivion is on a disk (got the collector's edition at least 4 years ago).

My question is, will they be compatible? I.e. will it work with two different directory architectures?

I am not the person authorized to answer this question.

Still, New Morroblivion installation asks for the both games' directories, so installing on a flash disk would even work.

And I don't think Steam game, and Disc game is different.

If I have any mistakes please correct me.

well, I don't own the steam version, but I know from friends that some tools, mods and installers simply refuse to work with the steam version, but are flawless when using the disc version. This regards many games, not just TES4. Must have something to do with the registry entries in Windoze, since (among other things) the CD/DVD protection checks are missing in the steam version.

From this point of view, there might well be problems with the steam version  while everything works fine with the disc-shipped ones.  As long as the Morroblivion installer checks Regentries that the steamed Morrowind has, everything works.  In case of doubt, just try.  If all else fails, there are some merchants at Amazon or Ebay that sell the disc GotY versions.

Should be just fine. I have Morroblivion v25 working on my Steam installs of Morrowind and Oblivion. Even though your installs are not both from Steam, it should be just a matter of pointing the installer to each installation directory.

I own Morrowind Retail and Oblivion on steam and it works for me that way

then don't even hint at such things, swmmr1928.  You're hinting to illegal activity and may get fried for that ;-)  worst case, some Bethsoft official takes that as reason to shut Morroblivion down... happened with sites like ProjectXI or the first UOX implementation.

oh gosh what have I done??

This won't happen again

@Rekuli, I think your going a little overboard, your just assuming the worse. I see no hints of any kind of illegal activity.

because swmmr1928 deleted his well-meant, but dangerous hint and turned it into "...".  I'm serious; ProjectXI and openUO both did a thing like Morroblivion and reimplemented or re-distributed back-engineered content that was still copyrighted.  Issues arose where users found illegal access to official ressources (online account hacks, acquiring game resources without having paid for them, etc) and both projects got sacked, sued and shut down.  Don't want to see this happen to Morroblivion just because it redistributes MW content and someone gives advice that not just borders to the illegal...

swmmr: don't worry, and don't be sarcastic, too :-))
