Was curious if anyone would have an interest in this...

Submitted by Spadra on

Hi everyone,

   I experienced Morrowind on xbox back in the day and I am considering creating an xpadder layout for Morroblivion that would work with the wired 360 controller. Its not as important as most of the other great contributions that are taking shape but I figured there might be a few members out there like me who could find it useful. If there is any interest let me know.

Cheers,

Spad

Very cool but I have no idea where one would even start to work on such a thing. I'm simply suggesting setting up an xpadder configuration so instead of mouse and keyboard you can use a wired (usb) 360 controller to play the game. I wouldn't be surprised if someone already has one floating around somewhere. I however didn't see one so I thought I would mention it.

The trouble is, on PCs you absolutely NEED the mouse when in menus or for item grabbing/placing.  Controllers won't work there.  You can play the game with any Xbox/PS3-style controller, though, but the second (z-axis) stick for looking and turning requires a good lot of manual setting and trial in oblivion.ini, otherwise it either won't do anything or be much too fast.  In any case, the look/turn-stick will have a slightly "digital" feel with a very narrow threshold.

Ironically, that is a bug in Oblivion --- with other games, Xbox/PS3 controllers just work perfectly and elegantly, as on the consoles...  I tried it with the wireless PS3 Sixaxis and the wired Logic3 PS3 Stealth pad, both with the same result.

I actually use DS3 to play Morro/blivion with my PS3 controller. Except I don't use the left thumbstick. I use the d-pad for moving (set to WASD) and the right thumbstick (set as mouse) to look around. So in menus, I have to use the right thumbstick to maneuver around, but it's not that bad. I suspect you would have to do something similar for the xbox360 controllers.

If you want to use a console-alike gameplay with a PS3/XBox-Controller, maybe this aids (just change your oblivion.ini appropriately):

iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2

iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1

iJoystickLookUpDown=6

iJoystickLookLeftRight=3

fJoystickLookUDMult=0.5000

fJoystickLookLRMult=0.5000

fXenonLookMult=0.0030

This ought to give you a PS3-Style control when you set the gamepad buttons like on the PS3 :-).  However, like I said before, the right stick feels a bit digital and has a narrow threshold from minimal movement to full, but that is a fault of the Engine.
