Dreugh Man-O-War

Submitted by Yixist on

Three creatures are commonly encountered in Vvardenfell's coastal and water environments. The mudcrab, and its larger cousins the king mudcrab and mudcrab titan, are large but unaggressive. Slaughterfish are small but very aggressive, and the larger varieties, the blind slaughterfish and the electric slaughterfish, are quite dangerous. But the most dangerous water creature is the large and powerful dreugh and the dreugh man o'war.

Spoken of in in-game books but not actually making an appearance, the Dreugh Man o'War is supposed to be the king of the waters surrounding Vvardenfell, and a formidable foe to even the hardiest of adventurers. This thing is massive and deadly, so makes sense it would swim in more open seas instead of the sheltered coves regular dreughs frequent.

I thought it might be fun to concept it up regardless of whether it will ever be included in the release, and I'm reasonably happy with how it turned out:

I based its body-structure on Ravanna's already completed Dreugh model here, so they still look related. Maybe even a Bull/Alpha Male/Elder of the same species. I'm imagining the crest on its back is used to attract mates, and along with the top of its plating it sticks out of the water, giving it it's name.

Any feedback is welcome!

Damn, this is looking really hot. I'd love to see it done if it's possible, unfortunately there are probably more urgent models to be made... Still, this looks awesome.

I imagine the player being about the size of it's forearm, or less. I am extremely terrified of large things underwater, especially in great depths. And I love this thing

Very good and adequate concept.
May be you need to add some fins.

This is what I like, small things which Vvardenfell makes more rich in details :)

Would be fun if it grabs player and pulls them to the seafloor where they drown before being consumed.  Player could take damage from being under water and getting punched in the face or smashed into rocks.  Would make the creature unique and especially difficult if player could not escape until creature is killed or takes enough damage for it to release it's prey.  Maybe they could be found only around shipwrecks or lairs with nice loot off previous victims?  Nice concept!

Thought as much, I took it on knowing it probably would never be modeled. Still, was fun drawing it up! Maybe somebody would like to take it on at a later date as an extracurricular, otherwise it'd be great if it could just be included with the other concept art.

Thanks for the comments guys! Sasquatch I was thinking it might actually be cool to have one drifting about near the underwater Boethiah shrine off the Bitter Coast. Theres currently nothing of value in that structure whatsoever, so this might provide more of a reward than just the quest if he has good loot or is guarding a trove.

Alysander you're right I missed the tiny fins on Ravanna's model, but I'm not sure it really needs 'em. The smaller dreugh had more of a reason for fins as stabilizers to keep it upright in the water, but I imagine with the larger amount of tentacles and claws as paddles the Dreugh Man o'War would have no problems with maneuverability in its more horizontal position.

Maybe I'll add em just for continuity, but I don't think they'll need to be particularly prominent :)
