Inactivity and leaving

Submitted by Mace on

I'm not leaving, not that it would matter because I'm not doing anything difficult in this project ;)
However, I've seen a couple of threads where people have either left, or become inactive. This has caused a couple of things to get left behind, and progress to be halted. I completely understand the reasons behind this; that people have other things to, or simply lose interest. But perhaps we could make an arrangement, where people upload the files they have been working on before leaving, so that others may take over, and continue their work? :)

I don't know if I'm alone on this, just seems it would make things simpler.

Good Sunday to you all!

Totally agree. Already asked some people, and they wont play ball. Just going to have to shout louder.
Kura luckily sends stuff all the time, so Ive saved all his stuff, for example.
I'll get eloth and Happy to sing the same tune, otherwise we'll lose more work.

Very good idea. I support it whole-heartedly.

This Thread

Skywind Installer Development

Talks about using a versioning system like subversion for all assets (Data Folder Contents). If set up correctly with this sort of issue in mind, it should limit the damage somewhat.

A system where to work on a new file you must upload the old, so only one file is active for each contributor at a time. It also has the advantage that more than one contributor can work on same file and assuming they work on different sections both can update without destroying the others work.

Don't know how far they've got but the posts were only made a couple of weeks ago.

I don't know if it would be possible, or if anyone would actually keep the promise, but when people claim a task they should they should be informed that if they eventually leave, they have to fork over the goods? A mini-contract, of course there is nothing that can really be done to enforce it ;) Perhaps informing people will be enough to at least save some work.

EDIT: Seems I posted the same time as you posted, Uhuru. I guess it would help a bit, but I like the idea of creating a bit of awareness about the problem.
