Ashlander music

Submitted by zakkattakk14 on

Thought I'd try my hand at some ancient/ominous sounding music.

Nice! Where did you get those female vocals from? Sounds exactly like what an ashlander woman would sing. One thing I'd do is to lower the volume on the drum a bit, right now the percussion is a bit too overwhelming. I really think it would fit as a combat theme ;) I wonder what are our implementations abilities here...

I have a few sample libraries and this is one of the middle eastern voices included in it. everything else was a product of samples i've made, been given, or vsts. I could make a good combat theme one with more intense drumming.

Sounds really good! It has a nice ominous feel to it.

I'm not sure if you're planning on making more ashlander music, but if you do I would recommend using the dizi.   I believe it could add more to the upper voices while keeping the tribal feel.

If you're not familiar with the dizi, I just discovered it recently, here is a good example of what it can do:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxsOks4V35w

I hope you keep making music and I look forward to your next track.

That's way too chinese for ashlanders. They're mostly based of Siberian nomads, like Chukchi or even Northern American Innuit. This is what their music sounds like: https://soundcloud.com/trolldragomir-1/ashlanders-medley

My god dragomir, I am in love with that medley. Exactly what I'm wanting to hear while roaming the ashlands. Some of the conch and flute in it actually reminds me of Maori music, the native people of my homeland. Have you thought of using a bullroarer in it? It makes a very deep hum, reminiscent of wind, might add something to it. Naturally different types of bullroarer make different sounds, the ones I had in mind were deeper, more of a moaning sound, but I couldn't find any examples so this will have to do: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vscBpbao7Os

Zakk, your stuff has some potential, listen to drago and I can't wait to see what you come up with! :)

This is some beautiful music! And thanks for showing me that bullroarer, now I know what Wardruna used in the end of this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUSEQEOgkGw&feature=player_detailpage#t=429

The bullroarer seems simple enough to make, I'll try and build one ;)

Love that battle hymn! Not overdone, with lots of interesting sounds in it, and putting me in a battle trance :D Well done!
