skyrim in oblivion

Submitted by carter on

why is everone so obsessed with skyrim? oblivion was the best followed by morrowind, then daggerfall, then arena. skyrim was a good game but it was boring compared to the rest. now for my request, i would like to start a modding team to recreate skyrim in oblivion. imagine if your charcter in oblivion could experience all three of the modern eler scrolls games on one save. wouldnt that be great. please help me get started on this fantastic idea.

Its a legit question if you have a low end laptop or pc that you want to have at least a partial experience of Skyrim without having to spend extra money on hardware. Now as 95% of the world computers would be considered not up to minimum requirements (turns out 3rd world countries have huge populations), then a port would cover an extra 95% of the world, who otherwise would miss out on the fifth installment of the Elder Scrolls. Well maybe they can play it in 10 years time when they save up enough to get minimum specs, but it would be a bit of an old game by then. Wait so those guys are now currently playing Morrowind. Hmm maybe just letting people wait until the can buy a pc that can play Skyrim is the better option.

im not trolling i love oblivion, and i just cant get into skyrim,(which my pc can run on high settings) it took a lot of the rpg aspects out of skyrim, and its just not as fun to play as morrowind, or oblivion. i would like to start a project to make skyrim in oblivion

Wait, you want to create a modern game in an outdated engine? ...Why?! You realize that recreating a game is a HUGE project; the people here have been at this for YEARS. Are you sure you're really willing to spend years making a game that will never be capable of all the features the original is, just because you "couldn't get into it?" This is a HUGE commitment, and judging by your lack of understanding on how this process works, I honestly don't think you're ready to lead it.

One thing you need to understand is that Skyrim is a game with a modern engine, and utilizes many features that a game as old as Oblivion would not be able to support, period. The reason we can make Morrowind in Skyrim's engine is because Skyrim's engine is more than capable of what existed in Morrowind. But Oblivion is not capable of Skyrim. I mean, you can try adding dragons, but I doubt it would work out well.

You also need to realize that in order to lead a project like this, YOU need to be aware of what's going into it. You can't just expect others to show up and do all the hard work for you. You need to know exactly how a mod is made, exactly how to manage a large group of people, and exactly what needs to be done. People are only going to help on a project that has a solid idea of where it's going, and I'm not sure your project has that.

I guarantee you'd have a much better experience just paying the 60 dollars for Skyrim, instead of sacrificing all your free time for the next three years to make what will probably be an incredibly broken and sub-par game. Hate to burst your bubble like this, but such a project just isn't feasible.

Any banned Nexus user is a friend of ours.

* please note this is a disclaimer for not wanting website attacks, as was done to Nexus due to their poor relationships with users

** please note that the above is a joke...but just in case, you know...

let me get this right your wanting to recreate a game you dont like on an older game engine and want to spend years making it to have well an even worse time with skyrim the mind boggles

I thought they were making unplayable games playable again to me skyrim is unplayable, so i will start the project myself, oblivion has the base and frame i need, it doesnt need to be an exact replica right down to the way dragons land, i just need the quests npc's and landscape and if nobody wants to admit that skyrim sucks thats fine by me, but I would like to attempt to make it better for all the smart people with good taste in video games.

The point of this project is to bring older games to a modern engine, not make "unplayable" games "playable". Cool, please start this project!!! I can't wait to see how you progress!

Okay, Carter, I can tell you're not going to listen to any form of reason. So instead of letting the other Skywind devs sarcastically lead you on in this charade (which you can't seem to comprehend), I'm going to save us all some time and be completely honest with you.

YOU ARE WASTING OUR TIME.

None of us are going to help you. Not one. And I can definitively say this for EVERYONE involved in this project. Not because we think Skyrim is a good game, not because we don't rebuild games, not because we're worried you don't have dedication, but because your idea MAKES NO SENSE. Skyrim runs on FUNDAMENTALLY different mechanics from Oblivion which are NOT POSSIBLE TO HAVE. Your game would be BROKEN. It WOULD NOT WORK, PERIOD.

And what in hell makes you think Skyrim will be better when created on an older engine? Even if you did it perfectly, no kinks, it would turn out to be THE SAME THING AS SKYRIM, you know, THAT GAME YOU HATE. It would be the same "non-playable" game, just more broken. So...WHY?!

So, if you'll excuse us, we have a real game to make. Please, by all means, start on your project. You can do all the Skyrim research yourself, you don't need us to help you on that. But please, stop clogging up our "recent threads" page with this. We're actual people, not your slave monkeys to help you on your littlest whims.

What exactly is Skyrim lacking that Oblivion had?  Aside from the play dough faces that is.

On a serious note Mr Carter, we do have the tools you'd want. There are TESEdit scripts to transform Oblivion to Skyrim, so these can be re-written to go other way.

Same with static models, can be converted to oblivion format.

The rest my friend is a little bit more complicated. You'll never be able to simulate quests as in Skyrim, the complexity for things like the Civil War are on a different level. You'll never have the creatures.

But you could feasibly have the world itself to run around. I shouldn't be leading you on, but if you have a dream...

if you prefere graphics over a game, then stop posting, when i said screw you guys im going home i meant it you guys want to be assholes, whatever, you made morroblivion thats all i care about, now im going to make a bad game with no creativity, geared towards the dumbest asshole with money, good

Alright carter, you win this round apparently

That didn't answer my question at all.  What is missing from Skyrim that was in Oblivion?
