Questions before i install morroblivion

Submitted by PeaHead on

Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong part of the forum, didn't really know where to put it. Im planning on downloading morroblivion now that it is largely complete, but i am quite new to modding so i have some questions.

Firstly, does the "better map" or hd res map (or whatever it is named) come with the mod, or is it an extra mod that needs to be downloaded after installing the morroblivion mod?

And basically the same for the AI packages (or radient ai), does this come packed into the mod or must it be downloaded separately (as ive seen a download for  it on the nexus)?

Do i need the OBMM or BOSS, or can  the installation be solely done only using wyre bash, as the installation guide does not mention these but many people talk about them. Also, will winRAR work with the 7z folders/files?

Also, im probably going to download the protocol dialog, as well as the voiced greetings and combat mods, to go along side the silent voice mod required for the morroblivion mod. Ive read that a bashed patch (or something) is needed to ensure mods dont overwrite others if effecting the same thing (in this case, conversations). Does using all these require a bashed patch, and if so, how do i make one?

Also, is the MenuQue plugin required for protocol dialog?

sorry that this is long winded, before i install im going to have to buy both games, and the only thing putting me off doing that is the sheer number of things to do to get this mod working haha, so i just need a little direction;)

  1. There are several "better map" mods. One comes as an optional file in the main package, others are linked here.
  2. AI comes within the master file, but not all NPCs have it in the current version.
  3. You don't need OBMM if you use Wrye Bash. BOSS is not a mod manager, but a tool to automatically set load order, so you may or may not need it.
  4. Bashed patch is not needed for mods you mentioned, but is needed for some others, like the clothing replacers.
  5. Yes.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, was a real help

how would I go about actually installing the separate mods (protocol dialog, voiced greetings and combat, alternative start and world transport), do I have to place them in the oblivion directory or do they go in the oblivion mod folder (created with wyre bash) and activate it in wyre bash?

Again, thanks for the help, and nice work with the mod:)

That's essentially the same thing - you can place esp's in Data folder yourself or have Wrye Bash do it for you.

Oh I see, well thanks, greatly appreciated

Hi again, i have a some more questions and thought that i may as well use this post instead of clogging up the forum with my lack of modding knowledge xD
basically, my pc is fairly new: gtx 770 (2Gb), i5 4670@ 3.4ghz, and 8gb of ram. (Only play at 1920x1080 if thats important)

firstly, i guess im best of downloading the 4gb patch, so i can use more of my ram

secondly, im wondering what the best graphical mods for morroblivion are, ive had a look at the textures overhaul which is now included in the morroblivion mod itself, and have also read about the Oblivion graphics extender mod. Are there any other graphic mods for morroblivion, preferably ones that have very few/no graphical glitches (such as missing textures causing purple objects) and that are fairly straight forward to install;)

Also, the oblivion graphics extender has confused me, from the instructions, installing it seems pretty straight forward, but is states one of the requirements prior to installing it, is updating directx, which takes me to a directx 9 link, do i just ignore this seeing as i have directx 11? Also, it talks about effect extensions that i can download (no idea what these are, do i need them)? And also plugins, it says that the shaders can be tweaked in game using the support plugin, is this included or do i need to download this separately?

Basically, if any one uses the OBGE, how do you personally use it (shader settings, plugins, extensions etc?

Sorry if i appear a little stupid (or needy) with all these questions

P.S
Realised that the obge core needs to be downloaded as well as the standalone effects, any safe website/link for the lastest standalone effects because its not on the nexus? Also, do i need the oblivion mod manager or boss or whatever it is for OBGE, or will it all work fine with Wyre bash?

Download the last version from googlecode (v3.1) the version on nexus (3.0) is partially bugged

https://code.google.com/p/oblivion-graphics-extender/downloads/detail?name=OBGE_v31rc4.exe&can=2&q=

There are some shaders like Liquid water that are very well done.

Some shaders can be tweaked with esp files, others only with direct edit of the shader file itself. The support plugin is provided only from nexusmods and is partially bugged and require to install all support shader(very bad), the right support plugin is unaviable.

The installer is an executable. You won't need a mod manager.

Directx 9 is completly different from directx 11. Oblivion is a directx9 only. Any update to directx 9 donesn't touch directx 11 installation.

Check this site for configuration and shaders: http://obge.paradice-insight.us/wiki/User%27s_Manual

4GB patch :If you have a 64bit system is always better to have it.

We have a Mod List for Morroblivion, which includes all available mods, including graphical ones (although, the majority of texture replacers are now included in the main package).

You need this specific DirectX update for OBGE to work. It will not overwrite your DX11 (and Oblivion cannot use DX11 anyway).

Latest versions ob OBGE are hosted here. There's an exe installer and BAIN package for manual\Wrye Bash installation - choose either.

You need OBGE Core for everything and there are several other modules:

  • Liquid Water - replaces water shader. "Must-have" in my opinion.
  • Physically Correct Sky - changes how the sky dome looks. I don't use it myself.
  • Standalone Effects - a collection of various post-processing effects, like Godrays, AA, AO and color correction.
  • Landscape LOD - supposed to improve distant terrain, but only useful if you have special distant meshes made for it, therefore won't do anything for Morroblivion.
  • Luminance HDR - makes HDR effects less intense. I use it, it's nice but the difference is not drastic.
  • Parallax Occlusion Mapping - replaces parallax effect. May look odd with some textures (too intense), I don't use it myself.

OBGE is not as easy to install as regular mods and can be confusing at first, but in my opinion it's worth the trouble.

Thanks for the info:) just wondering, I searched the code.google site for the OBGE standalone effects, and there is a BAIN version that's a 7z and a version that's an exe, same with the OBGE core, what's the difference?

also, is winrar compatible with 7z files? As I was watching a youtube vid in which OBSE was extracted into the oblivion folder using winrar, but when extracting and copying the OBGE, he used 7zip due to the archive being 7z?

Ahaha thanks, well I'll probably just use OBGE with liquid water and some standalone effects, thanks for all the detail, makes things a whole lot clearer, feel a lot more confident  modding knowing your here xD thanks again:)

Hi again, just curious to know which shaders you use/look best with morroblivion (basically what you have in your shaderlist.txt), and also, If there is anything I need to do to enable the shaders to work/look there best; I watched a video of someone using OBGE and before he started the game (vanilla oblivion) he went into his nvidia control panel, his 3d settings for oblivion and changed a lot of stuff saying it was necessary to get the shaders to work properly. Will I have to do that?

The only thing that you must do to make obge work properly is to deactivate external(non OBGE) antialising(it include the Oblivion one too)

Ah and I think Oblivion has not complete support for 3D visuals so Obge can give trouble with those systems

You also can't use forced anisothropic filtering - enable it in OBGE.ini instead.
