This is where you can upload your Dark Elf (Dunmer) voice auditions.  Please keep this thread only for auditions - feedback and other comments relating to voice work can be posted in the hub.

SAMPLE LINES

I have long believed it was a mistake to turn from the old gods. Perhaps Azura is with you after all. And perhaps not. I will tell you that I've spoken with Dagoth Ur. He promised me the same thing. That he will drive the foreigners from our lands. But I am not one to ignore opportunity, nor am I one to be troubled by rubbing two sides of a coin. If you are one of your word, I am your ally. I will tell Velanda Omani and Nevena Ules to support you as Hortator of House Hlaalu.       VOICE INFORMATION  

In general, Dunmer should sound wise, even in their youth.  They live in a harsh land, and their lifespans are very long - they are a pragmatic people and venerate the wisdom of their elders from even from a young age.  They should speak in a precise manner, taking the time to think through exactly what they mean to say as they say it.

For female Dunmer, the most important thing to consider is the culture they're coming from.  Female members of House Hlaalu are the most heavily influenced by Imperial (and therefore Aldmeri) influence.  They could very well speak with a lilt of the Imperial nobles, to a degree, though their voices won't be as commanding or crisp as either the Imperials or the Altmer.  The old voice for the Altmer would have made a great Hlaalu Dunmer.

Female Redoran Dunmer do not need the British lilt.  The Redoran should sound proud, and stalwart.  A mature-voiced and not necessarily as crisp version of the more American imperials could work - think 'superhero'.

Telvanni Dunmer females would seem suspicious and cold.

Ashlander females need to crank up the elderly wisdom vibe to 11.  Depending on how good they are with Cyrodilic (English) their accent may even sound Dothraki or Mongolian.

For males, the rasp is the most important thing.  If you can throat sing, and apply this rasp on top of throat singing, that is the ideal Dunmer voice.  That's how Jeff Baker does the voice.  After you nail the sound you can think on the cultural influences.

Here's my audition! I did two types of voices. I know my chances of getting picked are one in a hundred thousand but hell I'll give it a shot.

Also I'm willing to buy a new microphone if ever.

Voice doesn’t work for Dunmer.  Your normal voice sounds a lot like Carth Onasi from KotOR, or Carth clone from Mass Effect.  You may work for certain Imperials.

Not a bad voice, a bit breathy and a few sputters into the mic.

Your real voice bleeds through a bit.  The voice is okay, but could be better.  Peter Griffin Jiub?  The fourth recording has less background noise.  Make sure you clean future auditions.

Please, don’t upload zipfiles.  I can’t hear them on my phone.  Anyway, listened to them on my laptop.  The sound quality is poor, the rasp and acting isn’t what we’re looking for, and you use too much breath when you read the lines.

Not terrible.  Your own voice bleeds through a bit more than I would like.  You sound like the ‘in a world’ voice for trailers.

The voice is… weird.  Sounds like you’re breathing in while talking.  Doesn’t sound like a Dunmer.

The voice has some good parts, but it isn’t consistent.  You also seem to have a thick accent that makes it difficult to understand some of what you say.  I don’t think we can use you.

Very nice.  A few of the words are mispronounced, but a decent job.  A different voice, but consistent and with enough rasp to pass for Dunmer.  You’ll be an asset.

The voice doesn’t work for Dunmer, but you have a deep voice that might work for other races, imperial and perhaps Altmer if you can pull off a good Britishy voice.  If you’ve already auditioned for them, I’ll be getting to them in the next day or so…

Lots of clicky noise in the background.  The raspy voice is there, but the accent is sort of Cockney-ish.  Doesn’t sound terrible, though.  Definitely have to fix the sound quality, but there is some promise.

The sound set up for the house doesn’t seem the best.  The first two voices are lacking the Dunmer rasp.  The last one has it, but women don’t need it.  She sounds like she might be a bit too young, though.

Sounds throat-singy… but not quite.  Not enough rasp of the right kind backing it up, and your English accent bleeds through heavily.  While a slight accent isn’t terrible, I don’t want Dunmer accents to be too readily recognizable.

Too soft.  Are you cleaning and editing the audio according to Langotriel’s tutorial?  The voice might work, but I would like to hear you get more ‘into’ the role.  Perhaps if you read closer to the mic, and read lines with more context?  Look for the Excel with the dialogue in the second post of the Old Hub for lines to audition with.

Hmm.  An interesting voice.  Very raspy, and consistent.  Sound quality is fair.  Sounds good, and a different sound than what we have so far.

I would just like to give some advice, It seems like everyone is trying to talk from the nose which sounds a lot like Marge Simpson. The trick with Morrowind Dunmer is to use the throat. You know when you clear your throat? Just talk with that.

Hey everyone,

This is my first audition for Skywind... I figured I'd give the sample Dunmer lines a shot. (I may have mispronounced the names at the end there, that was a mild slip-up on my part... though I consider this my best take overall).

I can provide some variance if I'm going in too heavy with the rasp.  I figure this is a decent baseline to work from in any case (or so I hope!)

Here's my audition, reading the sample lines. I tried to emulate the dark elf from the morrowind intro scene. I used the built-in microphone to my laptop, so quality isn't the greatest. Hope it's what your looking for.
