Just to add more life and content to the game I find out that it would be cool to add graffiti like in ancient time.

example 1, example 2, example 3

Advantages are that almost anyone can draw sth because u don't need any skills (in that case bad quality is good quality) and different inconsistent style fits here well. I doodled several examples and how I see it looks like in the game. Orthographic and grammatical mistakes and plebeian humor are welcomed here :)

It's Council Club in Balmora. It's depicting Thanelen Velas. It is written here "Thanelen Velas is a drunkard"

More examples

1. Graffiti on the wall near St. Olms Haunted Manor

2. Graffiti in Hlaalu Plaza near Crassius Curio's mansion. (rumors of bisexuality). left letter is Crassius Curio and right letter is Hlenil Neladren (no one particular)

3. Graffiti in St. Delyn Plaza. Connected with quest An Invisible Son. In the right corner is symbol of invisible spell and word "help"

4. On the Hecerinde's House in Balmora. Description "Hecerinde is an thieff". Mistakes intended.

5. Somewhere in Balmora. Related with quest The Corpse and the Skooma Pipe. Description "Enil omoran is junki".

6. As I written before.

And for Arena in Vivec.

Would be useful to add words like "only red team", "hail Seanwen!" or someone else and etc. It could be on furniture or on the wall or sth else. Just add a little more depth to some palaces. Primitive but fits here well.

Of course white drawing is only example. It's depends on situation when it could be red/white/black or concave/convex. If u have some better ideas share your thoughts.

Ellange already did a lot of pure writing grafitti, anything u got upload for general use.
want to try them on vivec and hlaalu

That's a great idea if you ask me, we can choose the best graffiti ideas among the ones posted here and have our CK wizards add them. Also - this is a good moment to add/consider/redesign thieves marks from skyrim. We could use something like that in places where you can count on good loot. It all depends on how the loot system will be solved and how Morrowind items will be "translated". Marks for fencers etc would be great too.

Also some graffiti showing the distance/hatred between different houses and factions!

Some graffiti showing the hate/tension between Morrowind and the Empire would be interesting as well. It would be easy to see outlander houses being graffitied, with racist messages like ''N'wah''. Maybe a few remote dissenting messages throughout the temple could also be scattered and used as waypoints for Inquisitor Ordinators to investigate in some cities, give the temple persecution a bit more presence.

I've done several more.

Racism and similar.

1. Lovers

2. Dancing people

3./4./5. Redoran/Telvanni/Hlaalu guard

And faction stuff.

And this is how I image it works together. One big mess.

The humorous ones are good.

I think for the racism you could overemphasize differences in the beast races and stereotypes to make them caricatures.  Long forked-tongued lizards making out with and 'feeling up' trees.  Khajiit chasing rats, picking pockets, smoking skooma.

You could also depict cartoons of Uriel Septim with a knife in his head.

dude these are awesome!

I think it would be cool to have some more detailed graffiti on some of the buildings. Like almost actual paintings. Also maybe Thiefs guild, Morag tong, and dark brotherhood graffiti would be appropriate in select spots in the world as well. Sorta like gang signs showing where the more shady factions claim there territory.

@Smerk

"I think it would be cool to have some more detailed graffiti" and "Sorta like gang signs". What I can say, these things are mutually exclusive. Sign should be primitive and easy, fast to paint. But general idea is good.

There is already a lot of artwork that will be used for frescos and murals, which kind of goes in line with what you've said. Agreed on the faction stuff! Some guilds truly despise each other, like the Thieves and Fighters and there would likely be some Grafitti to reflect that.

The thieve's guild could have their shadowmarks, perhaps they would have regional shadowmark symbols distinct from the Skyrim ones.

Ya thats what I was thinking iceflame. I personally don't think the fighters guild would really make there own graffiti but they may mark up the old graffiti so you can't see it.

More scrap [Edited]

Skywind version of shadowmarks

I did for other factions if someone want expand content a bit

And for Cammona Tong. Not joinable faction but it's cool to feel its presence. Skooma/monsugar dealers will be cool feature to add. I skipped Morag Tong specifically because they are not like Mafia and they are legal. There is simply no need for them.

They almost don't exist in game but it could be useful (Dark Brotherhood)

It could be useful during main quest like in Ahemmusa camp...

Some doodles on the door. It means "3 dead Sheo followers, one is still here and we have two warriors here."

Btw. If will be some temple/houses radiant quests in future it is good opportunity to use them.

Not current, for general use.

Romanes eunt domus

nice idea with hand marks, but instead shadowmarks maybe its better to use some items or more complex secret writing (with letters, not pictograms). Childish images and abuse images gives more life to the game, but i cannot say this about shadowmarks or house symbolics.

I made some lines wider to make them more catchy.

What I can say dear alysander. I totally don't agree with u. It's better to use some symbol because it is simply more catchy for the eye than big wall of text, especially from greater distance. Second thing it's much easier to remember, and distinguish between them. Third thing is that u don't expect sth as sign as lines of text. Fourth thing is that it has to be fast to paint. Fifth thing is that they are somehow ancestors compare to the guys from Skyrim. Sixth thing is that it should somehow scalable and it is much easier with symbols than complex text. Seventh thing is that it is enriching gameplay a bit and adding more immersion like for example in Skyrim.

But if u have some propositions on how symbols should look like I'm ready to see your propositions.

Btw. I'm not sarcastic or whatsoever I'm reaching straight to the point. For sign like for Ahemmusa camp I'm not sure to use them but it could be one or more example in Skywind.

I just think if this should be secret writing it need to be more complex (not one symbol - more like word) and more stylized than pictograms/images on last image. Letters for words can be any form - just if in one style. Some of them can have meaning of whole words/conceptions thou, but not as rule or they can have "value by default" when they are not part of word. Letters can be stylized to style of pictograms of original MW.

Generally it can be analog of dragon language from Skyrim.
So it practically unreadable by player, but if he insist - it can be deciphered.

Nice idea but I disagree, the purpose of shadowmarks is for theives to quickly determine if a building is safe, or is good to steal from, I can't imagine a thief staring at a wall trying to decipher strange text, or they would be spotted by the guards. It should be recognizable for members of the Thieve's Guild rather easily, but just look like markings for non-guild members.

Nope. Secret letters are for long messages. Maybe as writing of ashlanders or other group, that team will develop (would be nice if some ashlanders confront city-inhabitants as Forsworns in Markarth). Also we can use such symbolics in magic stuff of many forms (tomes if they will be, scrolls and magical glyphs). I think daedric fonts are boring already.
---
For shadowmarks IMO it can be better common items or spots or smth less obvious. You just need to know that they have meaning.
If this would be written symbols - officials would understand fast what they means, so in Skyrim this looks naive.

Not necessarily if they are mixed with other symbols unrelated to the guild, and they could be made to not stand out as well, and out of the way, but where they would be discovered by a thief scoping out a building for entryways. Using shadowmarks helps for consistency and lore-friendliness.

@alysander

Your idea is good for encrypted letters (there were many quests with encrypted text) between imperial officers or high rank temple priests. But I don't think it is lore-friendly to use them as marks for sth else. Just imagine that u get some quest from thief guilt and u have to find and encrypted some strange letters instead to find one simple symbol. It could be quite annoying.

"I think daedric fonts are boring already" Maybe they are but they are too important part of game to just skip them.

--------------------

For explanation for potential player we can add  our version of Shadowmarks (Book) and maybe more hidden version for cammona tong. Dark brotherhood seems to be too much secret society (in MW) to have one. Just puzzle for player to find out what that symbols mean.

--------------------

> high rank temple priests
= would be nice if this writings treated as Ashlander writing system and some part of Temple priests know it. Then it maybe better to develop hieroglyphic version (1-2 symbols as a word/conception) with ~100 symbols. We can use this to cipher some hidden ashlander witches recipes, that they dont say to the N'wah even if he is Nerevarine.

> It could be quite annoying.
= Some players are smart, i presume. Actually i want more hard quests, than we have in .modern_games.

> "I think daedric fonts are boring already" Maybe they are but they are too important part of game to just skip them.
= Sure. I am not about ignoring them.

> we can add  our version of Shadowmarks (Book) and maybe more hidden version for Cammona Tong
= Yes. We even should adding some books, that looking not so as manual, but as research project from outer side (for example as investigation of Blades).

Actually we can even make some graffiti in this language with function of Dragon Walls - so you can get spell from it if you have requirements and know the language. Can be good as easter_egg too.

I have an idea that is a little of the topic of graffiti but could still work. We could have wanted posters and depending on how the player home system works out, we could have graffiti appear on the players home if they still have a bounty. for instance, if you killed someone you could have graffiti that marks you as a murder while if you only stole a sweet roll you could have graffiti that marks you as a thief. I have a feeling that making the graffiti appear/disappear may be to difficult, but it could be used on NPC's homes.(say maybe one of your followers?)

Like you said, setting conditions for wanted posters to appear might be unnecessarily difficult for what it would do in-game. However static wanted posters are a really nice little way to add a little life to the cities, much like the graffitis. I think that's a great idea!

"100 symbols. We can use this to cipher some hidden ashlander witches recipes, that they dont say to the N'wah even if he is Nerevarine."

Ehh, I don't really understand this idea. But ashlander's writing would be nice (ashburials, camp, some rocks). But it should be some opentype thing. I'm only not sure if it is lore friendly enough. But sth in the background would be cool. I'm not expert in this area, maybe someone else will write down if it doesn' fit with sth else. Now I say I'm not volunteer to make it, maybe someone can do that.

"Some players are smart, i presume. Actually i want more hard quests, than we have in .modern_games."

Hmm, maybe but only for side quests, where u have mentioned that this is some research project. Or sth which is not noted as quest but it's sth in background curiosity.

"Yes. We even should adding some books, that looking not so as manual, but as research project from outer side (for example as investigation of Blades)"

It could be both. It would be quite interesting comparing blades research with actual thief/cammona/etc. system.

"Actually we can even make some graffiti in this language with function of Dragon Walls - so you can get spell from it if you have requirements and know the language. Can be good as easter_egg too."

Quite interesting but it should sth like skill which u can learn from someone or sth combined with side quest. And just not too much. But it sounds like a lot of work.

@Midget Cookies

Why disappear? Maybe u should pay workers to remove them :) Just u take responsibility for your actions. It's nice idea. Btw. I think Skywind needs own cuisines. I really want to make concept if I get some ideas for recipes. It would be really fun.

---------

Maybe if u get too high bounty, then mob will plunder your house (just disappear everything what u buy inside).

@Tajnarasha

Static posters sounds good (bounty, advert, local news). And maybe when u finished some important quests news about player will appear (sth like nerevar defeated evil Dagoth)

----------

About implementing stuff if we have local bounty, we can add one condition more to bounty system. But I'm not sure how hard it is.

Alysander meant that, using an invented language consisting of about 100 characters, you could create a way to encode recipes carved by Ashlander witches into buildings that players could decipher if they learned the language thus learning potion/poison recipes. Maybe this could be only in Ashlander camps.

Personally, I think that the grafitti idea will end up looking tacky if overdone. The "funny" ones should be kept to a minimum as easter eggs. That will make them more interesting and well... funny!

Adding a thieves guild style marking system should be an essential goal in my opinion to bring Morrowind up to today's standards. Adding something similar for an assassin's guild wouldn't really make sense since their targets are constantly changing.

> I'm only not sure if it is lore friendly enough
= Most of cool stuff is not lore friendly. And yours too.
= Anyway it should be designed carefully and tested on other humans.

Hi I'd also like to help a bit with the grafitti if I just get some guide-lines on what to draw. I like to draw and stuff so maybe what I can provide with most here on this site ^^

I haven't read all comments here but I think I picked up stuff about having cryptic messages in the game for the player to find out by them selves? Because that is something I'd like to see myself in a bethesda game more. Maybe quests where you get very little guide-lines, just enough to get started, then the player must use their game experience and TES-lore skills as well as personal detective skills to find out more in the quest! :)

Besides that, I really liked the graffiti, nice job! :D And I'd like to help in making some if you'd like me to. :) Message me if you want me to do something special. :)

These guys above this post lost in action, so if someone is willing to help, there is always space to add some more common, special graffiti or anything else. All propositions should be posted here. Of course Png. version with black. It will be just repository to choose.

What about carvings in walls of prison cells with a derogatory attitude towards the Great House which governs the settlement?

I think this is good idea. You can show off. But in most cases prisons are imperial. So some anti-imperial things could good too ;)

I came up with a few shadowmarks for the Thieves Guild, though now I see someone already did that.

@IcarusBen

More or less doodles like that are needed. You can do some with some minor quests related, some more common about ordinary life, some with Dagoth Ur minions, some about notable/ordinary npc's in MW, some unique structures. There is a lot of room to choose.

The best graffiti is war between Houses

I have some anti-empire doodles here, as well as several Dagoth scarabs, covert directions to a drug hideout and a skooma ad. I hope some of these will be useful. Feedback would be appreciated.

Cool, nice to see your work.

One technical thing, I think you should avoid sth like "hairy" line it would be quite not noticeable on texture like here, in this one lines are more solid (they could be a bit wider) second thing it is better to give doodles on separate layer without white background.

-----------

In last one lines are too light, I understand that it was about architecture. Maybe instead them add sth about Baar Dau or Ghostgate or Velothi towers? Or about commerce?

Thanks for the input! I've attached the previous batch with transparent background. Any issues with the size/resolution of the doodles, by the way?

Also attached is the next batch - some Sixth House imagery and some racism/slavery stuff. Love Ravanna's concept for Ash Poet, so I've tried to incorporate it here. Alternatively it could be considered a reference to The Poison Song.

Sometimes i can see a better quality of graffiti.
I wonder if it would be more artistical sometimes.
===
Also you can use this idea : sometimes ppl like to write 'kilroy was here' on some place in wilderness.
That can be used in some of dwemer or daedric ruins.
===
There can be some adverts, you know.

:)

I went on a cave tour fairly recently and there was graffiti on the walls. Not cave man pictures or "Bob was here", but dates and names with an interesting story behind them...

During the civil war, some soldiers had sought refuge within the cave's walls and ventured inside. They had explored some and with their torches, they wrote their names and the current year (should anything happen to them I suppose). Several years (or decades) later, another group of soldiers came through, but this time, they wrote on the walls with rocks (or something). It ended up being a wall full of names and dates written in two distinctive ways, some words were black (by torch), others were white (by rock). It really gave a sense of age to the cave and kind of made you appreciate the history it had.

Really cool idea, it could be even more immersive if it would be lore-based. (nord invasion, imperial soldiers, some journeying telvanni masters, other famous ppl or ordinary ones)

Sometimes i can see a better quality of graffiti.
I wonder if it would be more artistical sometimes.

It just couldn't be too good. Maybe best quality could be only in caves.

If anyone is wanting to create some examples feel free to do them and put them down in this topic.

= Actually i meant something with altar graphics' style. That can be great not only as graffity (made by believers/pilgrims or more good drawn on walls of temples), but also good style to draw some pieces of history in ashlanders' quest cave. To show their variant of false gods' history.
