Missing clothes on NPCs

Submitted by anithinks on

Estirdalin at Balmora Mages has no clothes on. Her inventory shows robes, but none appear. She practices conjuration, and summons bound armor, but nothing otherwise.

Edit: If I link to UESP, the spam filter gets triggered. Not sure why?

Weird. Is she just naked? She could've unequipped the robes because of the bound armor - in this case she should re-equip them sometime later.

What, can't an orc go pantless in her own home? :D

I thought it was a House of Fruit Loops

Ano Vando in Ald'Ruhn (found at times in the Rat in the Pot inn) is naked - or atleast was when I found him, trying to sleep.

This inn also had an issue where many NPCs are trying to sleep in the same bed (hwy, what do I care if they have an orgy?), and crowd around walking into the bed.

NPC 01260A41
Name: Ano Vando
Defined in Morrowind_ob.esm

In my game sometimes the mage has clothes on, but once I went to the guild and she was sleeping in her underwear.  That actually made some weird sort of sense :)

The miners at Caldera mine were interesting.  The guards had their armor, some of the slaves were clothed, some weren't.  It seems to be mostly female npcs so far, but I have a really small sample size.  I've seen this effect on multiple races as well.

I have a different variation on this. NPCs tell my character to put some clothes on. I thought is was just the Imperial Chain Mail Armor but they told him the same thing when he was wearing a Robe or Netch Armor.

What version of OBSE are you using and is it working properly? Does this happen in dialogue or voiced greetings? What robe does this happen with exactly? Your character is a male? Which pieces of armor are you wearing?

It is getting worse. Everyone he greets now comments about him having no clothes on even though he very clearly does visually.

Unless you give us more information we can't help you.

I think these folks are rattling your cage, brainslasher ..

In any case, It's not a morroblivion 'bug'. it's usually a load order issue that causes things like this. Or a partially corrupt savegame.

What should they do?
 1.    find the offending mod and either adjust load order until you no longer have the issue, deactivate it,  or delete it.
  2.   Or - start a new game.

I am using OBSE 21 and it seems to be working properly.

The accusation of nakedness comes in voiced greetings. Dark Elves usually say "You are a fool to go around like that."  Guards, shopkeepers, smiths all make comments.

One thing that has changed about the situation is that my character now really is naked (underwear). Whenever I load my last saved game, the "See You Sleep" Sleepwear Configuration activation sound plays and he is standing there in his undies.

I suspect "See You Sleep DLL" and will de-activate it to see if that fixes the problem.

Disabling "See You Sleep" seems to have fixed the nakedness and Mage / Ship / Silt Strider travel failing. I need to play for a while to be sure.

Does that mean See You Sleep or CAT should be loaded last?

See You Sleep is load order independant mod. I use it myself with no issues, so this glitch must be unique to your setup somehow.

going on.

It gets goofier.

Last night I de-selected See You Sleep through the Oblivion Data Files menu option and then launched the game. Not only were the nakedness and MW fast travel issues fixed, but See You Sleep actually worked, too. I can't understand how that is possible. Tonight I will try it again.

Are you aware of any problems installing some mods or files via OBMM and then others with Wrye Bash? Most of my other mods were installed through OBMM. But based on the advice for installing Morroblivion, I used Wrye Bash. In fact, anything Morroblivion related I have installed with Wrye Bash. I use LOOT for my boot load order rather than BOSS.

You are Using OBMM you can Check Conflicts in OBMM.

Open OBMM make shore your Load Order is What you Want First De_Activate ( ALL ) Unofficial Patches, they Create Errors in Everything.

On Right Hand Side of OBMM Under Utilities\New Conflict Detector,RUN This another Panel will Open ( read EDIDs ) is ticked On, Tick ON ( Include Main esm in Results ).. Then Press ( Test Active Mods ) Wait for IT..

When Finished Go Through the ( RED ) files Major Conflicts..

Check for Files that are Trying to ( Alter Morrowind\Morroblivion ) Files, When you have Written Down Enough (Exit ) This Panel Re_Arrange Load Order to Try and Cut Down The Errors,You will Not Get Rid of All Errors,But if you Keep at It, you can Cut the Conflicts Down to  1 Quarter,, When you Finish With your Loader Order Re_Activate Your Unofficial Patches you will Have Double the Errors Back But you Might Have Got Your  Load Order Re_arranged to Stop Errors in ( Morrowind\Morroblivion )

It's probably best not to mix WB and OBMM, they handle mods completely different, especially if you you use the installer function in WB.

See You Sleep will continue to work as long as you have its dll file in Data\OBSE\Plugins. Esp is used for managing "sleepwear" and possibly for compatibility with vampire animations, I don't remember for sure.

I recommend using Wrye Bash as only mod manager. It's simply better than OBMM in pretty much every aspect.

Oh, and LOOT is made mainly for Skyrim, BOSS is still better for Oblivion.

Thanks Roxon_55. LOOT tells me which mods need to be cleaned after I do an Oblivion re-install through Steam.  The Unofficial Patches almost never have dirty edits, but it is amazing to me how many DLCs do. Since they are "official" content, they should be "clean" IMO. If I follow qwertyasdfgh's guidance I should be able to do something similar to clear up errors using Wrye Bash, right?

Brainslasher, I added Wrye Bash to install Morroblivion and related mods. I already had other mods installed through OBMM. If I go with qwertyasdfgh's guidance to standardize on Wrye Bash should I re-install all the mods I installed with OBMM using Wrye Bash?

qwertyasdfgh, thanks for explaining why See You Sleep is still working. I am going to keep that the way it is for now (even though it is handy to have the instant switch between sleep wear and day wear).

Do you think I should re-install all mods using Wrye Bash and then discontinue using OBMM? Would that reduce the errors Roxon_55 is talking about?

No problem re-installing BOSS for boot load order, but I was under the impression it was no longer being developed or supported which is why I switched to LOOT (which is said to be Oblivion compatible). Am I wrong yet again? It is becoming a bad habit.

Hi Roxon_55. Played for several hours but now I can't get anywhere without the game crashing.

I set up the load order you recommended and then followed the conflict detection process. Next I de-activated every mod that conflicts (RED text) with Morrowind_ob.esm except for Morrowind_ob.esp because I think that is required.

Next I will play test and let you know what happens.

I had no idea using mods could be this complicated. Now I am going to check everything for conflicts before I use them.

Thanks again for your help.

Which mods are conflicting with Morrowind_ob.esm in red? If they are are up to date Morroblivion mods that's perfectly normal. However if unrelated mods are conflicting among themselves that could cause problems. Where does the game crash? If it's seemingly randomly in the wilderness while walking it's most likely a corrupted spawn point. This is fixed by waiting for 3 days or longer, it's best to avoid that location for that time though. This happens in the base game as well.

Bethesda's DLC (for all games, actually) are known to have dirty edits.

It's not necessary, but Wrye Bash is a better mod manager, so you'll be doing yourself a favor.

Neither mod manager can fix errors in plugins, but those are pretty rare anyway. Wrye Bash can create 'Bashed Patch' which is used to resolve conflicts between mods.

Don't use OBMM "conflict detector" - it's crap. TES4Edit can show you plugin structure if you want to search for conflicts, but if you're not a modder is will likely just confuse you.

Also just because something conflicts it doesn't mean it's bad - that's how mods work.

At the moment I am having the problem Brainslasher is talking about:  game crashing in a wilderness site. I will try his recommendation to go somewhere else and return 3 (game) days later. Thank you Brainslasher!

Many of the mods I de-activated worked fine in Oblivion/Cyrodiil. But Rox did get me to think more carefully about which ones I really use. I am going to pare back to a smaller number just to make life simpler. I always cleaned the official DLC mods with TES4Edit even if I did not activate them.

It also looks like I need to invest some time in learning how to use Wrye Bash better. I didn't realize that the Bashed Patch was also a way to resolve conflicts between mods. It just seemed like a smart way to stay under the 255 mod limit (no problem for me).

At this stage I lack mod making skills, so I am not looking for another opportunity to become confused.

Thanks qwerty.

Unless you plan on going to Cyrodiil I recommend playing Morroblivion only with mods created for it or only those affecting graphics and general gameplay. The official DLCs won't have any effect on Morroblivion whatsoever. And even if you plan to go there you can always install those mods later.
