Some General Feedback

Submitted by Dunbar J on

Hey all.

I've been silently praying for Morrowblivion complete for some time and I was glad to see it's come so far in the years I've been waiting. So I went through the lengthy (complicated!) install process and I've started playing. I'm enjoying it, but I thought I could take a break to enumerate some things I've noticed in the game. Sorry if anyone feels this belongs in bugs or problems or whatever

First is the trees. I absolutely respect the integrity of Morrowind, but one of the things I'd always hoped could be revamped for Morrowblivion is the ugly god damn trees from Morrowind. Seriously, Morrowind phoned in the trees hardcore and they have always been awful. Is there any way to get a replace for the stick-trees from Morrowind? Simply importing the Oblivion trees to Morrowind would be great, anything but the ugly twisty stick trees!

Second thing is the text. Moves way too fast! If I could fix this by editing some numbers in one of the mod text files, please let me know, but otherwise I think the scrolling chat text needs to be slowed down because I can scarecely read anything anybody says. Every time I try and read those little secrets or little advice, it scrolls by super-fast and then it changes so I can never see that one again. I have to click the same thing 3 or 4 times to fully read it. I feel it would be prudent to fix this.

The only other thing that really stood out to me was the fact that robes make your arms invisible. This is problematic because I've been trying to take advantage of the fact that I can play MW and not have a game engine that slightly gimps mages.

Please do not take this as a complaint thread. The mod is absolutely amazing-- groundbreaking, no doubt. The first plugin of it's kind, I would say, where someone took an older game on different engine from the same studio, and brought it into a more modern engine by the same studio. I just think it might be good to break a little further away from Morrowind because, after all, there is a reason we all wanted it brought to to Oblivion... because we got sick of the fake stick trees!

Tress will be addressed later. Quickly moving text can be solved by installing Ely's Silent Voice, which is indicated in the Installation Instructions. Sorry, this is just the way Oblivion works. Yes, it is stupid, but you have to install this. SpoonyBrad has provided a fix for 1st person clothing meshes that will be included in the next release. And yes, all of these things have been talked about before. Most of the credit you are giving for the groundbraking nature of this mod goes to Galadriel, the genius behind Morroblivion, NOT to anybody here. We are now just making it playable...

NOT true at all.  This has been done many times.  For example, the Descent series, Doom, Baldurs Gate I was ported into the II engine, etc. etc. etc.  Furthermore, Oblivion and Morrowind run in the same engine - Gamebryo - albeit different versions of this engine.

I agree with you on the trees though. Those things have to go. :)

I am apalled that you felt the need to remove my comment and block my account. Because all the problems that the OP has with your mod have been addressed and fixed with Morrowind Overhaul. There are already other mods out there that can change the combat system and the like to style more like Oblivion.

As I said before, download Morrowind Overhaul because it is actually finished.

Why does these morrowind overhaul people keep coming on here and spamming?

I started the TES series with Oblivion and my friend strongly suggested playing Morrowind and I tried the 'mod morrowind' route and it didn't do it for me. I'm now 11 hours into Morroblivion and having a blast. Meh.

I'm pretty sure that everyone is already aware of MO.

Ok, I am effing pissed off at these MW Overhauled guys now. If you want to play MW Overhauled fine, do that. If you want to play Morroblivion, do that. But don't try to deter people from our project. We don't go to the MW Overhauled forums and cause trouble, so why do you do that here?

Oh see, I'm not aware that everyone is aware of it, since I only became aware of it a week ago. I don't care if you guys play it this way or that, I just want to make sure that since MO is an Italian project, people have an opportunity to try it as well if they are not happy with Morroblivion, which is why I posted this in the comments/feedback section rather than make my own thread. I was intrigued at first by Morroblivion, but my hopes were higher than what I found when only looking around this site for a few minutes.

I'm not trying to sway your opinions one way or another, I do agree my original post was a bit rude towards your project, but I think that people should be aware of both options, especially since MO is more complete at this moment in time.

Switchy As I said before, download Morrowind Overhaul because it is actually finished.

^ People like this deserve to be permanently banned ... the same would happen in almost any other forum.

Mind you, this is not the nexus or bethforums ... this is a 'project website', its morroblivion's 'home'. You can't go into someone elses's website ... bash their efforts and and then start selling your own 'alternative'.

And you claim that MO is "actually finished".

What exactly has been "Finished" there?

Have they finished 'repacking' other people's replacers?  Or have they finished telling you how to set up MGE? Maybe they have finished telling you that there is some  mysterious morrowind mod that has oblivion style combat.

I do wonder if they have finished telling you that normal, parallax and specular maps are not included ... or have they finished telling you that Physics is impossible ... if nothing else they should have atleast finished telling you that your MW character can not visit Cyrodil?

Morrowind Overhaul is just a compilation of 9 years of moding for an already functional game ... its hypocrisy to compare it with Morrolivion.

PS: No offence meant to the creators of MO ...

Actually, Morrowind Overhaul isn't "finished".

So far it's only a graphic/sound update.

There are a lot of other improvements in the Oblivion engine that I love, not just graphical improvements.

Haha, good one, yes I admitted my original post was to the extreme. I apologize as I was letting my own personal opinions that Morrowind > Oblivion, and Oblivion only exists the way it does because the people on Xbox couldn't play Morrowind (although I enjoyed the game myself). As previously stated, the above is all personal opinion. This mod says its complete but it just can't compare to the level of update that MO offers. Although if you do get the tree permission, then you're one step closer. Like I said in my previous post, I am just making people who find this place aware that Morrowind Overhaul gives you a more complete package, for a little extra work, 'cause any problems is all user error. I got it to run on my 3 year old laptop, albeit at lowest settings with distant lands. Apparently I blew a whistle thats been blown one too many times, and had not realized.

By the way, you deleted my post of "finished." I edited my speech to say "more complete" which is still true.

Oh, and I wouldn't want my Morrowind character to visit Cyrodiil. I just want a complete full continent for my character to explore. Honestly, we both love the same game, no need to be nerd raging.

I might have found a way to possibly convert Vality's Bitter Coast trees over to oblivion format.

Ofcourse someone will have to go get his permission first :p

Otherwise Blackwood trees from oblivion would also probably do fine ... if we can get the mushrooms to fit.

Not everyone was aware of the MW overhaul, when I ask why would someone use this over the overhaul some people were not aware of the overhaul. I am still here posting of these forums and I have dling hashim Tex, the new tex ovehaul and .27 because of my interest in the project. I don't understand why we can't have a civil discussion about the two, each has there strengths and weaknesses. Saying something good about the other should not be taken to imply that anything is wrong with the one not praised at that moment.

This project is in a odd situation, normally people would see this on the official boards and could easily discuss other projects and see those other projects so they can pick what they feel is best for them. Thats is not possible, so I see no reason why that discussion can not be had here.

@Robertneville You guys can not go to the overhauled forums and discuss this, which is sad but true. Thats is why disscussion can only happen about it here. As I said before you will often see on RELZ thread people ask why would I use X mod over this mod. For example in a thread about MCA people will ask about Starlight NPC adder and the pros and cons of each.

Even under the short time I've been on these forums, trolls come by and thrash this mod and claim that Morrowind Overhaul is "infinetly superior" etc etc, and I really can't understand that behavior, and it really sullies the reputation of MO for me, even if it isn't their fault that some people are a-holes. It saps the fun out of any civil discussion :(

With that said, I do have MO installed, but I primally use it to check stuff when I mod Morroblivion. I just can't go back to 2003 and pretend that all is great, because it wasn't. I prefer this mod because it gives me what I desired from Morrowind(the world, lore, immersion), and not it's shortcomings(chaotic journal/inventory system, basic monotone combat). I won't count the AI as a shortcoming, because in 2003, if someone said "every npc go to bed, eat, travel etc when they feel like it", it would sound like science fiction.

/rant

With all that said, Kefka, do it like me, have both gameson your computer, and try to help as much as you can :)

@illspecko I do have both on my pc and I follow both. Right now I am only testing both as I am playing FNV. Right if I were to play MW I would use MW overhauled, but that is just my preferences and it very well could change based on each update for MorrOB.

I actually think MW inventory system is far superior to OB's even with Darn. One click of a button and everything is there to see, stats, items, map, etc I wish Beth would go back to having a simple yet very functional UI. I don't see it happening though. I agree with you about the journal, too bad you can't just click a button to get to it automatically though(there may be a mod for this).

MW has no  single mod that give you OB combat that work, there is a new mod out called Gratuitous Violence that was just released 2 days ago. It give you control of blocks, 100% hit chance,mp regen, sprint button, and some other things. But there is a bug that crashes the game when using it. But even when/if the mod works as promised it still will be one step behind true OB combat(though I could be wrong, and some of the additions like sprint, etc could make for better overall combat, but that is a big what if right now).

Right now the major advantages of MorrOB to me is physics, combat, quest markers, fast travel and the Journal with radiant AI as a major advantage in the future.

While Fast travel and OB style Combat can sorta be had with MW, I don't know of any mod that adds quests markers,OB style Journal or physics.

Hmm, I guess have to agree to disagree on that one, I love the fact that OB have different tabs for everything, I never seem ro have enough space for it in Morrowind. I guess I need a bigger graphics card so i can up the resolution...

I deleted the Original Post because it was a Flame with nothing positive or constructive to add. I will do so again if we start getting carried away and keep arguing over which is better. This site has had enough negativity and hostility in the past; nobody wins in a flame war. What mods people choose to play is a matter of personal taste; it is a single player game; there is no right or wrong except in respect to yourself.
