BRETON VOICE AUDITIONS

Submitted by Smitehammer on

This is where you can upload your Breton voice auditions.  Please keep this thread only for auditions - feedback and other comments relating to voice work can be posted in the old hub thread.

Sample Lines:

Ah...so you're the one who brought Maurrie and Nelos together. Nothing has been seen or heard of them since then, but the bards are singing songs of their love. Well, done! Please, take these as a token of my gratitude.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Fasile_Charascel     There's an old sea cave nearby, called Ilunibi Caverns, up on the north end of the island, right on Khartag Point. Nothing but rats and slaughterfish. Sometimes smugglers and outlaws use it for a hide-out, but it's wet and nasty, and not real comfortable.

Voice Description

Bretons are based after real-world Bretons, the celts of France.  So French, 'Celtic' (Irish, Welsh, etc.), British (not as 'proper' as Altmer or Imperial, but other colloquial dialects), Belgian, even Spanish or Portuguese works well for them.

Here are my auditions for an Irish sounding Breton. Didn't go too overboard with the intonations, but they get progressively higher and faster, as well as switching from east coast to west coast accents.

The quality on number 4 leaves something to be desired (even more than the others, some quality was lost converting WAV to MP3), for some reason there as more background scuffling. But I can try different lines, or re-records should you be interested.

I know the second one is female, but I voiced them both anyway. Bit of geordie dialect. Never done voice acting before, so I dno how this will turn out.

Hi everyone! I'm pretty new here and have a decent amount of experience recording and editing dialogue on an amateur level. I've decided to try out Barnand Erelie's dialogue for a submission/audition. I hope you all enjoy [External image]

It was fun to be able to look at Bretons from a wider range of dialects than the usual slight-cockney British.

I have upgraded my recording setup since my last upload, so I thought I would submit new auditions before you guys hand out the new scripts.

Breton (this one was closest to my native accent, but with more Northern  thrown-in):

I have also included my work as an elderly Imperial (may work as a Breton?) from the Interesting NPCs mod as an extra option:

I auditioned a few months back but I've got access to better equipment now so I've recorded some new auditions. Here is my Breton:

Thanks.

I've gone for Scottish. I was going to put in French but I've since realised that I can't maintain a French accent while not speaking French :(

I record with reverb (it helps the quality of my performance), and forgot to disable it for this sample, but of course I will turn it off for the finished product (see my other entries)

I made an attempt at a "Welsh" styled Breton, let me know what you think.

Here is my Breton audition. I used the Sample lines, and tried a few different accents.

Spanish Breton: https://soundcloud.com/dumacdwarfking/breton-spanish

Irish: https://soundcloud.com/dumacdwarfking/breton-irish

French: https://soundcloud.com/dumacdwarfking/breton-french

British: https://soundcloud.com/dumacdwarfking/breton-british

Thank you for listening to my auditions. Also...sorry for the background noise, the gain on my mic was set to high.

Hey. Here's a try at Elbert.

I know the sound quality is not "cool beans", but I'm about to buy a new mic.

Hey. Here's a try at Elbert.

I know the sound quality is not "cool beans", but I'm about to buy a new mic.

The acting and the accent is fine, but try again when you get the new mic. At this point quality is sort of a must, and I recommend checking out Audacity to clean your audio up until you get your new mic.

Hello! I'm Nathaniel Gordon. Here's my audition for the Breton voices, if this is still going on. I'm a professional VO actor in Vancouver, BC, Canada, and I've loved TES since I first played Morrowind. I'd love to help any way I can.

I've also auditioned for Dunmer, Khajiit, Bosmer, Imperial, Orc, and Altmer.

(I should also note that I am using a professional quality sound booth, producing broadcast quality audio.)

Three male auditions with different accents and one female Breton with a distinct accent. Slight compression and noise issues but these can be rectified if it comes to recording proper.

I don't really know about a proper accent. I just wanted to say "wet and nasty."  LMAO :D :D :D

Heya, so here's my attempt at Bretons, doing both male and female voices.

Fasille and Barnand:

Listien:
https://soundcloud.com/iddie-mo/breton-listien-audition?in=iddie-mo/sets/skywind-auditions

Maurrie:
https://soundcloud.com/iddie-mo/breton-audition-maurrie?in=iddie-mo/sets/skywind-auditions

I recited Barnand and Fasille's lines from the OP, but also had some fun recording some of Listien and Maurrie's lines.
Tried my best at a British accent, hope it sounds alright. ^_^
*fingers crossed*

EDIT:
Here is a redo of Fasille's line, hopefully the quality is much better and passes the standard:

Iddie... wow. That's surprisingly good. You need to work on the sound quality, but good God. You could actually help us put a dent in the female backlog.

Giving female Breton a shot. This is my attempt at it with a French accent, which was interesting, and I hope it isn't too cartoony. I think it would improve with practice. Feedback very welcome!

I offer my two sets of the example dialogue given above. I feel that the Bretons are a patchwork of kingdoms each with different accents to go along with them so I tried Northern English and Standard Irish accents.

This is my first time doing this, so I'd love some feedback. Is there enough energy? Is the sound quality too poor? Are the accents too fake-sounding?

These clips are for a more generic Breton, though I've used lines from the drunk bounty-hunter 'Daric Bielle' so I've excluded the drunkeness.

"Well, hey there. S'fine place this is, huh? S'fine place. Good place for me to jusht forget about my troubles. No use thinking about them. Stupid slaves. Why they gotta run? Huh? Sure, be nothing to do if they didn't. But why the gotta hide, too?"

"Hey, it's you! What do I want with you again?"

Hi! I tried to turn in an audition back in February, but the forum wouldn't let me leave comments, so hoping this works. Here's my audition for a Welsh-style Breton, which is basically just my regular voice. (I can totally Valleys it up and sound like one of the ladies in "Pride" if called on to do so, but it seemed a bit like overkill for Tamriel. ;) ) I'm on a Blue Yeti, there's some Fallout stuff for Interesting NPCs you can see to get what it sounds like in-game. Edit: Forgot to take one of the takes out of the middle of the file, replacing--fingers crossed again! Cheers. :)

I did a readthrough three times of the first Breton dialog, just to try some different inflections. Don't know if you still need Bretons but I thought I would give it a shot.

Breton. I used my attempt at a French and Irish accents, respectively.

EDIT: Forgot to normalize (Maximize) the audio so they're a bit quiet.

Here we go again,

The Breton voice in Morrowind always reminded me of a whiny questgiver, so I made him sound like a little less of a bitch. Other than that, it stays pretty true to the original.
