Bonemold armor

Submitted by johnsummerfiel… on

Keeping up with Morrowind lore, will Bonemold armor be crafted using bones?

It states that live stock bones were used, being broken and peaced together with resin to make said armor.

Perhaps the crafting ingredients could be bones collected from skeletons (since bonemold is a low/medium level armor, common in Morrowind and skeleton warriors are also common) bonemeal and resin?

All three ingredients would be relatively easy to come by so players wouldn't be forced to kill and steal at low levels to obtain and it follows the lore

On Bonemold (03/30/01)

"Bonemold armor comes from ground up bones and is mixed with resin and left to set in a...mold. Kinda like plaster of Paris but much tougher I believe they use bug shells as some of the molds, thus giving a bug-like appearance to that armor as well. Why not just use chitin then? Well, apparently this paste, once set is much stronger than chitin. Chitin is very easily punctured by pointy things, unless it's a weevil - those suckers are tough to pin. :)"

Bonemold armor will be crafted at a resinworking station, where bonemold is mixed with resin in insect shell molds.

An old concept I made:

I hope it will be many (collectible/mineable) bones on this fauna in badlands. This is desert, mmkay?

The bones you pick to make the armour from could have some cool cultural significance. I remember some lore text mentioning that some Chimer made multiple sets of armour out of his dead enemies. I could definetly also see Dunmer traditionalists making it out of the bones of their venerated ancestors (probably not so often now though, since apparently most remnants are transported to the Ghostgate to power it with spiritual energy). Bones of animals would definetly be for the more common bonemold armours. Each of the Houses could actually have different rituals around crafting their set, as well as some variation in the ingredients. Hell, I'd love an Erabenimsun bonemold made of the bones of their enemies, and with addition of ash to make it grey - for fearsomness and camouflage.

That can be used in 1-2 side quests, but not sure that  venerated ancestors could be great raw source.

Every temple in Morrowind has multiple pits where Dunmer burn their dead, and every tomb has many, many, many, many, many urns with bone meal.

The boots and codpiece would be made from not-so-venerated ancestors.

But seriously, it would be a great way to add value to a lower level set. We could do quick re-skins of the armor and change the stats to allow it to stay relevant longer. Bonemold -> Ancestor Bonemold -> Ancient Ancestor Bonemold -> Founder Bonemold, etc...

I wonder what bonemold made from daedric bones would be like....

iceflame542-> Great idea about the resin working station,my apologies I'm a new join (for instance I put my email as my user name by accident)

You kept mentioning bonemold, but what will the bonemold ingredient come from? bonemeal?

whoops just looked at the picture, bonemeal and resin.

What (or will) there be other ingredients for creating Redoran, Indoril, Armun-An, Gah-Julan, Armun-An, Chuzei and Gah-Julan? These would probably all come under the same access perk "craft bonemold armor" but perhaps an added ingredient for each?

On a similar note, indoril armor (minus greaves) will that have gold as an ingredient? apparently the decorations are gold leaf. and, on my millionth note will the code be set that you'll still get pulled up by guards when you talk to them wearing it?

Crafting techniques could be taught by the master smith for whichever house you chose to side with. A short or even radiant quest could be used to gain the smith's favor and learn the style of that house.

@johnsummer

Indoril armour is not bonemold, it's gilded chitin. Probably very high quality stuff that is imported from the mainland. And most importantly, I don't think it should ever be craftable.

The way crafting of armour works in Skywind, is that you will need a recipe (obtained through dialogue or documents, sometimes involving quests), as well as a respecting material perk in order to craft the armour. So similarly to how it was with legion and stormcloak gear in Skyrim (however ever so slightly more complex), you will most likely only be able to craft the bonemold of the House you have joined, and you will only be taught it if you joined it. So yeah, they might need different ingredients, but also you're probably not going to be able to craft them all.

Dragomir-> Chitin, sorry i don't know that much about morrowind specifics, i just presumed it was some of bonemold with a gold leaf etching design.

the house to armor idea is great, never thought of that.

so it'll go that you have to obtain bonemold armor perk, (allows basic bonemold) then via whichever house you join and word of mouth to discover house ingredients and unlock crafting?

Something like that. There are some Dunmer smith NPC in each of the Houses that can teach you about their traditional armours. And House bonemolds were already there, Gah-Julan being Redoran, Armun-An Hlaalu. We're also adding one for the Telvanni, to give to their retainers (inspired by my concept of Telvanni mage suit and with Chuzei helmet).
