Conjuration Spells

Submitted by LoneWolfEburg on

OK, I probably shouldn't spam the forum with these topics, but I'm probably one of the few people playing Morroblivion right now, and I've got a question: is there any Conjuration spell in Morroblivion that doesn't require having Conjuration at 50 to begin with? Even Bound Dagger requires it... If there is truly no starting Conjuration spell, than it's definitely a bug.

A Topic auf Conjuration spells already exists: https://tesrenewal.com/oblivion/morroblivion-problems/2595

I repeat my advice:

I use the mod "Spell Failure Chance". You can cast all spells like in Morrowind, but their is a chance of failure. I recommend the german Version of this mod, because it change the chances. With the english Version you have a bad chance to cast all spells, even those, you good at. The german Version changes that. The mod contains the possibility of side effects if a spell failed. You can turn this function off by typing the following into the console:

set SpellFailureEffectChance to 0

I've noticed the same thing and the requirement could probably be lowered on many spells but it's hard to determine which Spell Level to choose because Morrowind didn't use the same system. I'm not sure how the original converter determined which level to assign to which spell but it didn't always come out right.

For reference the base bound dagger spell in Oblivion only lasts for 15 seconds instead of Morrowind's 60 and requires less Magicka than the Morroblivion variant (21 vs 84). Though most Novice Mage players probably have more magicka than 84.

It's a big project to check through all the spells and to be honest I'm not always sure what level each spell should be categorized into. But most should probably be set to a lower one.

@Bjorn: Thanks, but I don't want my spells to fail :p I'm fine with vanilla system.

@ Brainslasher: I just think that having no Conjuration spells below level 50 available at all (seriously, there doesn't seem to be any) qualifies it as an actual bug, rather than just an matter of gameplay balance (how you're supposed to level it, only the few trainers?) Having Bound Dagger and a 2-3 of weak Summon spell be available from the start would "fix" it without overhauling anything.

Oh I agree that it has to be changed, I'm just not sure which spells should be put into which level. Here are all the conjuration spells that Morrowind has.

Now you could technically put each spell into a category based on its Magicka requirement but that means that a novice in conjuration will have access to very powerful daedric weapons and armor. You could also use Oblivion's system for those items, in which for example a dagger is a novice spell and a sword is an expert one. Perhaps Morrowind's spell success formula could be used to determine which skill a spell should require. But it's so different from Oblivion's system that I doubt that it would be useful.

Even Novice having only Bound Dagger, Summon Ancestral Ghost and Summon Skeletal Minion would be a massive improvement and would patch what is very much closer to a bug (no conjuration before level 50 in conjuration) rather than an unbalance.

I'll try using Oblivion's system for summon creature and bound item skill requirements. Hopefully the results will be good. If you really want to conjure Morrowind creatures like Bonewalkers I can recommend using the excellent Lost Magic Mod.

However in Oblivion there are no summon creature spells below the apprentice level. (25-49) The ones that do exist are Bound Dagger, Helmet, Gauntlets and Boots. But if you choose conjuration as a master skill you will start of as an apprentice anyway, which makes sense for a mage character.

Okay, here's the file. I didn't change any Magicka requirements, I only adjusted the skill requirement for conjuration spells to fit Oblivion's system. No requirements were increased, so NPCs should still be able to cast all the spells they could before, perhaps even more now. You can check the requirements used here, here and here.

Nice! (Just noticed Brainslasher's latest post in this thread). Will this be included in the next version (it wasn't in 0.64)? I think it's a necessity, since otherwise it's quite an obvious flaw.
