[Wip] West Gash trees. Environment models by Vita

Submitted by Vita on

I think is time to share what I’m up to. So I decided to create this topic. Will be updating and posting here my progress. Here we go for the first shot of the West Gash trees new concept.

Rock is not included, or maybe it should be. I don’t know. Any suggestions are welcome concerning this detail. As well as the ideas of additional details I can eventually add, like moss, vines, creepers plants etc.

Very interesting one!

You know - you can always turn this rock into bulbous base of tree. This can be common feature of MW trees.

Love it! Exactly what Morrowind trees should look like. Great job! Can't wait to see more of those :D

As for the rock, Alysander's got a point. Most trees in Morrowind are likely distant relatives of the corkbulb, and some of the ones in original game in the West Gash had a bulb on the bottom, made from tangled up roots. Probably would be a more prominent thing for the bigger variants.

And I'm not really sure what other detail to add, this looks perfect as it is. Maybe a knarl or two where branches might've gotten broken in the past.

Also from a practical standpoint, many of the live West Gash trees have bulbous roots, but we don't have enough dead ones with bulbous roots.

"And Vivec looked upon the tree and shaped it in accordance to his dong lust. All basked in it's leafy weiner majesty."

I like 1 through 4. 5 is a little too Tim Burton.

Your tree looks awesome Vita! You could get easy variants by applying a bend modifier to the trunk and get some variations on the curve and direction. Knots would also be good and maybe an alpha'd overlay of creeper plants or moss near the base could add more color and create new variations.

Thanks to all for the feedback. As for the shapes, nice concepts Lukkar, I think I will give it a go.

Vita - in general you can use your existing textures/patterns more widely.
Try more not to create new species, but more like new stages of existing plants.
For example - would be nice to see small seedling of this tree, or to see small bush made from your fire fern elements.

Ok boys and girls, the totality of the base trunk shapes are 99% done and ready to recieve foilliage and additional details. At actual state, depending on size and complexity, poly count varies in range between 1k and 2.5k tris. Crooked as it is I consider it very reasonable.

wow those are nice, very nice work :)

you know, you can add some inflat deformations and just exemplars with more wide/fleshy trunk
looks like you used all other deformations exсept this.
(of course if trees wouldnt be look too unique)

Alysander , yes knots and outgrowth deformations, it can be. And would be cool, just leaving this kind of details for the end. When everything is good, this will be to make it even better
