Idea for how to reimplement Attributes for Skywind

Submitted by WhiteStrike on

First of all I would like to say hello and the fact that Skywind looks amazing. I would next like to ask if you have formed a method yet to implement the mechanic of Attributes in Skywind, as I think that would be a very important part of reinventing the feel of Morrowind. If not, I have an idea that I'm very excited about that I would like to discuss with the devs. If I need to just post it here and let everyone see it then so be it, but like I said, I'm really excited about this idea to reimplement attributes in a flawless, non-scripted way, using nothing but the existing Skyrim systems.

Update:

So I'll just post my idea so that it can get a discussion going and if it's picked up by someone and made into a mod designed for Skywind or made as a standalone mod for Skyrim then great!

Ok here it goes:

There are 18 perk trees in Skyrim. This mod, if made, would use only 8 of those perk trees and modify them to represent the 8 attributes and the skills they govern in the branches of that perk tree(now called an attribute). The 8 perk trees would be named after the 8 attributes from previous TES games; Strength, Intelligence, Willpower, Agility, Speed, Endurance, Personality, Luck. I don't know what would happen to the remaining 10 perk trees. I don't know if you can delete perk trees or if they would just have to be dormant perk trees that have no use.

When you level up, you would get 4 perk points. Ideally for 3 of them to be assigned to any base attribute perk and then one extra perk for a skill perk. This might require using Elys' Community Uncapper and adjusting the amount of perk points, health, magicka, stamina, and carry weight per level. The following explanation of the new "attribute trees" would be if this mod was to be used specifically for Skywind. But could be easily altered for Skyrim's Vanilla skill system. Also, these attribute trees are under the assumption that Skywind will add old spells from morrowind and reinstate skills that were deleted in later games ie, Mysticism, Athletics, Acrobatics, Medium Armor, etc.

Also, this mod would have to change vanilla values of weapons and armors for balance. Perhaps too much of an undertaking at the moment. Starting values of attributes would also need to be changed for balance and the unused perk trees would have to have their method of leveling removed from their game to avoid leveling them up. Attributes that were used in the mod would have to have their method of leveling changed to avoid complications ie, "Strength" would have to be altered to be leveled up by using Blade, Blunt and Armorer, instead of just one handed.

Each base "attribute" perk would have 100 possible ranks and would increase certain derived attributes and effectiveness of the skills they govern.

Strength: Governs- Blade, Blunt, Armorer, Acrobatics. Each rank of main perk, "Strength" would increase carry weight, melee damage, fatigue by a small amount. The 4 branches of Strength would be Blade, which would have perks for Swords, Axes, Claymores, and Battleaxes; Blunt, which would have perks for maces, warhammers; Armorer; Acrobatics, which would affect jump distance and fall damage. I don't know exactly if jump distance would need scripting, I know I've played a mod that does have a spell that changes jump height, so I know it's possible somehow.

Intelligence: Governs- Alchemy, Enchant, Conjuration, Security. Each rank of main perk, "Intelligence" would increase magicka, and the effectiveness of all it's governed skills by a small amount. All the skill trees would be relatively the same as vanilla Skyrim with some specific changes that I can elaborate on later if needed. I will say that I have some ideas for a kind of "spell chance" system

Willpower: Governs- Destruction, Alteration, Mysticism, Restoration. Each rank of main perk, "Willpower" would increase magicka resistance and fatigue by a small amount. All skill trees would be relatively the same as Skyrim with some specific changes and, same as Intelligence, ad kind of spell chance system.

Agility: Governs- Sneak, Light Armor, Marksman, Block. Each rank of main perk, "Agility" would increase dodge (% chance to negate damage effect) and fatige by a small amount. All skill trees would be again, relatively same as Skyrim with specific changes I can elaborate on as needed. Really all of the perks would have changes that would give it more of a Morrowind feel that I can elaborate on later if asked.

Speed: Governs- Athletics, hand-to-hand and unarmored. Each rank of main perk, "Speed" would increase movement speed by a small amount. Athletics perks would manipulate stamina and stamina regeneration in various ways and movement speed; hand-to-hand would obviously have various perks affecting fist fighting; Unarmored would have various perks that would turn clothing into armor and would probably have perks like "mage armor" and things like that.

Endurance:*This attribute tree would really depend on how far the Skywind team is willing to go, as it would add Spear into the game* Governs- Medium Armor, Heavy Armor, Spear. Each rank of main perk, "Endurance" would increase health and fatigue by an amount (It's probably possible to make health scale with your level just as it does in Morrowind). Skill trees would obviously have perks that affect them. Medium and Heavy armor perks would be easy to add in, but Spear would depend on if Skywind will have spears, which it seems like it will.

Personality: Governs- Speechcraft, Mercantile, and Illusion. Each rank of main perk, "Speechcraft" would increase barter prices, and persuasion checks by a small amount. Skill trees would be separated for Speech, Mercantile and Illusion.

Luck: Governs- No skills. But, with each rank of "Luck" ALL skills, actions in the game are increased in effectiveness by a small amount. This would be very easy to do in CS.

So there it is. All of this I believe, from what I've worked with in the CS, can be done using nothing more than the manipulation of current perks and adding and subtracting new perks with NO extra scripting involved.
