Stuck on the dock in Syden Neen

Submitted by bobg on

Hi and thanks to the great modders that have and are working on this project.

I think I have everything installed but I can't get past the dock at Syden Neen. I get stuck halfway and I can't go forward or backward. Juib won't talk to me. It seems like he did the first time I had this installed. All of the required Bethsoft files are installed. I used the current installer-V63. I used the V62-Complete resource files plus some earlier resources to fill in missing textures. I used the update to V63.

I had this all working at one time but it got wiped out and now I don't remember what magic I need to get it going again.

I tried to search the forum for the terms 'stuck' and 'dock' but the search box seemed to ignore my requests so if this has been answered before I apologize for the repetition.

Did you install OBSE? If you use the Steam version did you follow the instructions provided in the readme? If you don't, did you start the game with obse_loader.exe? Where exactly do you get stuck? In the ship or on the dock itself in the open?

Please post your load order. Most likely, you're using an outdated mod.

Thank you so much for your prompt responses.

I followed the instructions to the best of my ability. I used the V63 installer to install the esm file. I was not able to download the complete V63 resource because Google limits downoad size to 2GB and the file is 2.1GB. Didn't learn about that until it stopped downloading at 2GB and then failed.

I have a V62 complete resources from back in the day so I installed that and then used the V63 update to patch it. All the meshes, textures and voicing, seem to be there and correct.

I have OBSE V21 installed. I use obse_loader.exe to start Oblivion.

According to Wrye Bash, my load order is;
Oblivion.esm
Morrowind_ob.esm
Morrowblivion_World Transport.esp
Vardenfeld_Imports.esp
Morrowind_ob-Conversations.esp
Morrowind_ob-UCWUS.esp
Morrowind_ob.esp

The esp's are all from the V63 update.

I can travel by the 'travel guide' in Anvil to Syden Neen and walk around on the boat. I can talk to everyone on the boat except Juib. On thing I noticed, the docs say that Oblivion topics are suppressed and replace by Morrowind topics but it seemed to me that wasn't the case so maybe I have something outdated. When I leave the boat and start toward the Census building, halfway across the dock my keyboard freezes. I can't move or open my journal. I can open the main menu with the esc key.

Again thanks and best regards,
Bob G.

It can be this mod: Morrowblivion_World Transport.esp ???

otherwise you don't seem to have outdated mod. The vvanderefellImport esp is not needed for morroblivion but it shouldn't interfere

My install with 063 had a similar issue, would work correctly for new characters but would not for any previous character taken to Sedya Neen, actually would stop all animations and voice within a few feet of the point of contact with the officer on the boardwalk by the ship.  I uninstalled and reinstalled several times, then it miraculously started working. Tried as you did, several reinstalls of Oblivion, clean and no mods, no patches, no UOP stuff, other versions of Chargen as well, moved installation out of Program Files etc....  Tried every load order imaginable, like your experience, no rhyme or reason, but It may have something to do with the way Windows installs the resource pack.  Be sure to re-run the Morroblivion esm install executable after moving or renaming your game files, and then be sure to open Bash mod list and check mark the Morroblivion esm to active BEFORE installing the resource pack and running the install sequence with Bash.  Its the only thing I can guess that may have caused it.  Possible that the Windows Registry loses track of file locations otherwise.

Any thoughts from the experts???  I am newb, really inexperienced,, and just loving this game now...........  ;-)

This has nothing to do with Windows or registry. 99% chance is that you're not using the latest version of Chargen and Transport mod.

I was using the outdated World Transport mod.

Unfortunately, deleting that and installing the newest Chargen-Transportation mod did not change anything. It still freezes. I can go to the other destination using the older World Transport (I forget the name of the city ATM) and travel around the countryside and around Vivec with no problem. It seems to be a problem with starting the quest at the Seyden Neen dock.

Is this a script or something I could look at using the construction set? I have a little experience with the CS, modding NPCs and clothes. I would like to learn how these things work anyway.

There's nothing wrong with the script. Did you download the latest CAT mod from here? Is it last in your load order?

Having good luck, just reinstalled again, script works great on the dock now, old and new characters..  I like how its wisely made so the officers and guards and agents walk you through the 'get your papers' process, and OPTIONALLY give you the quests ONLY if you ask in the optional dialog. Lore friendly that way.  Of course, you can no longer steal things off the boat!  hahaha

1. Installed Morrowind GOTY and Oblivion GOTY fresh, deleting old Oblivion ini files, first (stored in "My Games", so no unknown bugs there.) Run once to verify working.

2. Dropped in OBSE and that list of plugins (listed somewhere on this site) and run once to verify. The plugins fix things but wont make or break the game.

3. Installed Wrye Bash 305, latest I think, by running the install exe.. Ran once to verify it showing no Bash Installers or Mods at all but the Oblivion esm and esp files, only. (No UOP at this point, no Unofficial Patches at this point, but later on I did add them.)

4. Run MorrowblivionInstaller_v63a.exe, and, once 'successfuly installed' box pops up, ran Wrye Bash and ticked the activate box in the Mods list, made sure its marked active before installing the huge resource pack. (I may not have done that step before, when I was having the problems??)

5. Used Bash Installers method to install (and then make sure mod order looks ok) both the "Morrowblivion_v63_complete" and then "chargen_and_transport_mod_v11.7"  (from zipped archives, never unzipped since Bash handles all that, so new users don't have to mess with any of that ain't it great!!!)

So....  New users may need reminded to go into the Oblivion Loader option (or Wrye Bash method) and tick the boxes to activate which game files are loaded.  Seems like a no-brainer, but I REALLY WANT PEOPLE TO ENJOY THIS AMAZING WORK.....

BTW, I can create the same sequence of the "Glitchy Sedya Neen Dock Freeze" at any time, at will, just by traveling to that location from Tamriel by any other means than the Start New Game sequence, with any character that has NOT first been through that sequence.  As expected, that is because the guards are NOT going to seize you and take you there.  If you go there by Portal to Vardenfell, for example, you will land in the city, not on the boat, and not as a prisoner.

I'm going to suggest that if that happens to you, just load your last save, go back to Tamriel, to the Imperial Prison or other travel initiating sites, find one of the routes back that puts you on the ship as a prisoner. That way you can get all the quests as the game was meant to be started.

Kudos to the programmers!!!  There is a TON of work being done by the guys making this game more fun than ever before.  I doubt they can take time to fix it up so that every possible route into Sedya Neen from Tamriel gets you on the boat as a prisoner.  ...

Thanks again guys, I really am amazed at the time committment you have put into this...

Hi all,

Just after I posted that last message, my system died. After a few days of troubleshooting I gave up and bought a new system which just brought new problems. The builtin vga could not connect with my 1080p LED monitor. My old graphics board was too large for the new case, and on and on.

I just didn't want you to think I don't appreciate your inputs and I hope to be ready to try again soon.

best regards,

bobg

Thank you everyone for the mod and support. I have got it running now with only one minor glitch so far. The mist above the swamps in Syden Neen is missing a texture so instead of mist I see translucent purple panels floating above the swamp. I don't know if that texture is from the Morrowind bsa, a Morroblivion bsa or from the data\textures subdirectory. Still searching the resources for any missed install.

Do you have Shivering Isles expansion installed and active?
