Extravagant Robe B

I've finished the low poly and the UV mapping. Now it's off to zbrush for some sculpting. I should have this ready for skinning in a week. It would be faster, but I have holiday fam biz.

Another week after that I should have the fly creature and the shoes ready for skinning. We need a name for that fly creature.

Happy Thanksgiving (if you're into that sort of thing).

Hmm, would it be okay to make

Hmm, would it be okay to make the wings longer, and perhaps more angled? That way they'd look a bit less straight forward.

How will the dress be

How will the dress be animated with those wings (sitting animation mainly) Doesn't seam practical.

@Drago- No probs.

@Drago- No probs.

@Nandi- it's not practical. The morrowind version animated terribly, but I still love it because it has a giant dead big on it. Clipping sucks, but until we have processors that can handle realistic physics engines we just have to deal with it.

The wings will flow the rest

The wings will flow the rest of the robes when rigged, this means they will not clip more than other things , but that the wings will have to move always, so probably we'll have to face stretching mesh.

Looks extremely promising so far. I honestly don't really care that much about possible clipping issues, this robe is definitely going to be my party attire once Skywind comes out!

A helmet can be implemented. More than one I believe, Skywind is aiming to have quite a few helmets.

Before you start planning out

Before you start planning out a bunch of helmets, remember how many exterior and interior assets we don't have yet.  Those should trump all other projects, honestly.

Here's progress:

Here's progress:

This is finished texture on the low poly model. Except the legs and antennae. I made a rookie mistake in zbrush and split to parts, then merged, at which point zbrush decided to wipe it's butt with some of my UV mapping. It's no big, because I'm sculpting more bug parts for the creature, so I can just add them back in later. Also, I know I need to dial back the transparency on the emeralds.

@Yours Truly- Yes, I'm doing the shoes but after the robe and bug. They are a separate attire piece and have a different texture map. Should be easy since I already have a UVW'd base shoe lowpoly and I only have to make one.

@Smite- I think Drago was being a smart ass. This robe is from the core game, but I agree. I might switch to assets for the world builders soon.

Great, really liking that. I

Great, really liking that. I hope some cool lighting effects can be added to the bug shell with cube maps? ;)

Also, one thing I just thought about, that is wrong with my own design (sorry for bringing it out now, but it was a late realisation). These patterns are a bit too straight and even for Telvanni. If it's any effort you can just leave them as they are, and we call it a Dwemer fascination, but if it's in a separate layer easy to change, I'd love to see how would this robe look with your Telvanni runes (the ones from Telvanni magus), along the edge. Because these straight patterns would fit a Hlaalu robe/shirt greatly.

the only reason i am saying

the only reason i am saying this is because i noticed that the wings are not completed yet, have you thought about moving the wings so that they connect in the back (excuse the poor picture mock up)  i think it adds a bit to the flow of the outfit.  nice work so far really like it and will be happy with it what ever you choose.

I decided to go with slightly

I decided to go with slightly more simple wings than the concept. It's more of a wasp style than a dragonfly style. The bug itself is squat, so I thought some more predatory wings would make it more dynamic. Just a bit of texture work left, then it's on to the shoes. Yaaay!!! I get to be a virtual cobbler.

That makes the wearer's butt

That makes the wearer's butt look fat. I'm against it. This robe already has a lot going on without adding more to it.

I suppose you could assign it to a accessory slot but then you have the issue of it being combined with armor and clothing that weren't intended to have a giant bug stuck them. (essentially lots of clipping I'm probably forgetting some other issues.)

It would clip a lot with most

It would clip a lot with most other outfits. And Batmanna would have to skin it separately. It would also make this robe not as special if any other robe could have the bug. That would hurt my delicate little feelings.

No way we want to hurt Wulf

No way we want to hurt Wulf delicate little feelings and no way the wasp will be an amulet .

Wulf this is coming out REALLY good, only thing I'd suggest is to adjust a bit the lenght of the robes in order to avoid them to touch the ground. Try to look at Skyrim monk robes for the right lenght; not much a big deal but ,when skinned, the robes will behave 100% times better with that little tweak.

the wings will need cutting into the quads to ensure they warp in regards to either leg or loincloth bones at the same time as legs.

I'm gonna be honest here it

I'm gonna be honest here it looks good but was there really an outfit in Morrowind that had a Giant bug strapped to the front of it? it does give off somewhat of a Giant Bug Phobia, also I can't imagine how the insect simply wouldn't simply start decaying after a while especially considering Vvardenfell's climate.

Admittedly, its not the most

Admittedly, its not the most practical-looking robe but I think the Dunmer are more than allowed to have a certain level of extravagance in their clothing, especially high-end robes like this one.

here howe the look in

here howe the look in morrowind thought some here would find that intresting because i also didnt think the where in origenal morrowind

like where this is going  but if the wings fold more to the side so u can make them biger and are the a bit more pratical than flat on top of the bug

and nowe i am looking at the origenal isnt the antenna theight in the neck collar what also seem more practical than pionting out of the neck

when this robe is finist i can see this bug beeing really prety bling bling morrowind gangster style

Speaking of giant bug phobias

Speaking of giant bug phobias get you some of this

I think I'm going to re-color the white waxy parts at the joints. It looked better in zbrush. I also want to get a more coppery look to the top of the bug, but that's little stuff. Here's the fly ready to buzz around and spoil your food stuffs.

Before I get a pile of superfluous recommendations, let me just remind everyone that this is a little extra ambient creature. It's not a big deal. If Skywind were an all you can eat buffet, this bug wouldn't even be a side dish. It's more like the parsley on the plate. Just appreciate that it's there and turn your attention to the two hundred pounds of macaroni salad that we still have to make.

Assuming Drago likes these

Assuming Drago likes these new and more telvanni style symbols, the robe and the fly are done. I'm going to go start the shoes until I hear otherwise. I should have a sketchfab and turntable for both up within a week or so.

Is this a Telvanni robe, though?  I remember there's a Bosmer in Pelegiad wearing this thing.  Personally, I think it looked great with the pattern from before.  It works fine for mages of any background.

I think if any robe is to be

I think if any robe is to be considered a mainly Telvanni thing, it will be the one with the bug on the chest. I'd take it away from Imperial mages and give them some more imperialistic ones, simply to put more emphasis on how different these factions are - in Morrowind they were wearing exactly the same stuff.

And yes, aside from some funky texture effects that can probably be added later the robe seems pretty much done ;) I really like the new symbols, previous ones should be saved for other robes. Only thing I'd maybe still tune is the bugs on the shoulders - make them a bit more concave, because right now they seem a bit flat.

Well I really only called

Well I really only called those symbols Telvanni because I used them on the magus. Kirkbride actually used them for all Dumner. I got quite a few off an ordinator concept. It doesn't have to be Telvanni, but with the bug it is undeniably Dunmer.

Thank you for the feedback, and good eye on those shoulders Drago. I'll tweak that and make some morph targets. Then the shoes.

Hello, guys! This robe looks great but robe's insect seems not enough realistic. I think wings and body are not proportional. I suspect it can't fly if it will be alive... Or its body looks strange.. Hmm.
