Concept Art in Loading Screens

Submitted by Furcifer on

A simple and small idea, given the quality of the myriad pieces of concept art produced for the project, I think a good suggestion would be to have them showcased during loading screens.

I think the current plan was to display 3d models and lore snippets during loading screens like skyrim, and the concept art featured more as either paintings for ingame walls, and or pdf artbook.

It actually wouldn't be a bad idea for concept art as loading screens. This would keep the actual models found in-game a bit more special. One thing that annoyed me about Skyrim was seeing models of things in the loading screens before seeing them in-game. "Gee, thanks for showing me that straight-up Falmer are in the game, and that they're now hideous blind goblin-things. And you call them Falmer, without any ambiguity. Neat."

Back in the day i made a fan art loading plugin, you can download it here https://tesrenewal.com/forums/skyrim/skywind-mod-releases/3565

I even got all the artists permissions on Deviant Art

Now this was before we had any artists working exclusively on Skywind, so personally I'd love to see a mixture of art and models, after all variety is the spice of life.

Can we just add loading screens similar like in MW? (with updated models) For me it fits much more and we get huge boost of nostalgia effect

I just feel with so many pieces with different proportions it would be too chaotic and it will look like power point presentation.

Maybe is that possible to have concepts on back and model at center of view?

I doubt it will be good looking. I prefer old way with pseudo-sketch underneath.

I actually had the idea that it would be nice to have the same concept art-ish loading screen but in motion ... the same zooming in-out thing like in skyrim, but with just old-school drawings, paintings, and also give some "smoke" effect also like in skyrim. And it would be more interesting like paintings of different monsters showed on loading screen, but in close ups.

For example I did this kagouti painting, imagine his tusk appeared in loading screen, but having that mist effect, like on the edge of the screen/paper it fades out just like on this picture, and of course slow screen motion to any direction etc etc.

Great thing for books. I really want to see it ingame but I think we should be quite close to original. Maybe renders just with some surface blur at the end.

Glad the idea has got some feedback :).

I would be thinking large vistas with lore snippets myself, like guild wars 2 or dragon age inquisition.

Interactivity would be cool too, but in that case I would definitely be for the viewable concept art thing.

[External image]what i think would be cool if u got those origenal loading screen  from morrowind  like those post above me but whit 1 model that can rotate like in skyrim u knowe combine the best of the 2  if that is even posibel

but the original morrowind look does need a bit of retexturing because it doesnt look super good this way

yeah totaly!

For me it's almost good, but there is too much contrast between the elements, like there is no connection between them, they are just floating there ... thinking of some saturation, brightness or even texture variations. Make the elements coherent with each other. But that's my opinion.

Not to stomp on anyones fun but these images as is won't work for how Skyrim/Skywind does load screens. Load screen background can be modified so a morrowind inspired one could be used like you've done. then each load screen uses a .nif as the object being viewed (only one but a combined .nif of several objects could be made) tied with any of the particular preset camera angles. Cool conceptual mockups though
