Visual C++ Runtime Error on attempting to enter doors

Submitted by Artparker on

Hello all...

This problem is driving me a bit crazy. I've just ensured the following:

1. Autosave is disabled including bSaveOnInteriorExteriorSwitch=0

2. C++ 2008 is up to date.

3. Load order is correct.

4. Latest OBSE is installed.

The game crashes on attempting to enter some interior doors from the world AND from with-in an interior. I have no idea how to fix this, even after two hours of reading up on it.

The error box says, "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way."

Thanks for your time.

Can you post your load order? Has this started happening recently? Does this happen with older or a new save game as well? Does deactivating Morroblivion fix the issue?

Sure, here's my load order:

Oblivion.esm
Morrowind_ob.esm
DLCShiveringIsles.esp
Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch.esp
Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp
Morrowind_ob.esp
Morrowind_ob - UCWUS.esp
Morrowind_ob - MorroblivionTreeReplacer.esp
Morroblivion - Clothing Galore.esp
Morroblivion - Silt Striders.esp
Morrowind_ob - Morroblivion Maps.esp
Morrowind_ob - Armored Skeletons.esp
Morrowind_ob - Chargen and Transport Mod.esp
Morrowind_ob - Conversation.esp
Morrowind_ob_-_ucwus_belts.esp
auriel_seyda_neen_home.esp
MorroblvionWater.esp
Oblivin_Character_Overhaul.esp
Ash creatures as races.esp

This save is brand new after installing v64.

As for the frequency of crashes, it's only happened on two door entrances to caves and one inside of a cave. One door I managed to get inside of after reloading the game, and a couple of doors no matter what I do will not make it past the loading screen.

Do you have some other kind of OBSE mods? If it's  a C++ Error and not the usual Windows "Oblivion.exe has stopped working" message then it's most likely connected to OBSE. Sometimes it helps to delete the old Oblivion.ini in /Documents/My Games/Oblivion.

Also try disabling all mods except for Morrowind_ob.esm and Morrowind_ob.esp and see if it still crashes as well as temporarily removing any OBSE plugins.

Also, which cells cause this specifically and after how much in game time? Do the crashes happen every time in the same locations?

*Update 4: I spoke too soon...

Ok this is seriously becoming a hassle. Same crash just happened again inside Ilunibi cave. I got inside no problem... There is definitely something wrong with Obse and I'm guessing blockhead or some other mod that affects clothing. I'm starting to find NPC's in the cave missing underwear Ashzombies and Dagoth Draven's robe was completely invisible. I'm completely at a loss to this one.  I'm starting to think when I removed Obse, I went through the door and saved and then put it back thinking it was the 4gb patch on the dll's needed, and that's the only reason I got inside the shrine. The problem remains I guess... :(

Update 3: SUCCESS!

After pinpointing the problem on OBSE. I went searching the web for why it might cause a crash on loading a cell...here's why:
http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1437921-4gb-patch-on-steam-version/?p=22117957#entry22117957

I never knew I had to patch so many files with the 4gb patch. All I can say is it works now! :D

-(I'm leaving the old post below as a reference for anyone who might find the same problems)-

*Old Update:

I can enter the door now with OBSE removed. But now blockhead is screwed up and Ash Zombie had no pants on...for obvious reasons.

Here are the files I have for obse, perhaps someone knows what's wrong?

obse.ini
obse.log (shows no errors as far as I can tell)
obse_1_2_416.dll
obse_command_doc
obse_editor_1_2.dll
obse_jail_fix.dll
OBSE_Kyoma_MenuQue.dll
obse_loader.exe
obse_loader.log
obse_readme
obse_steam_loader.dll
obse_steam_loader.log
obse_whatsnew

In the OBSE plugins folder:
MenuQue folder
Blockhead.dll
Blockhead.ini
Elys_USV.dll
Elys_USV
Elys_USV
MenuQue.dll
MenuQue.ini

For some reason I had OBSE in the Oblivion directory (where it belongs) and also in data, the data OBSE had all the files above while the correct folder only contained obse.ini and the Plugins folder for Blockhead.

None of the files appear to be old. Any thoughts?

-------------Old post
I just started a new game to test the two spots giving the problems...and they work fine with the fresh character. Given that inconsistency my only guess is it has to do with the save, which is less than two weeks old.

The crashes on my main character happen immediately on trying to enter the door to Ilunibi http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Ilunibi and the Shrine to Subdun http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Subdun

The weird part is before I turned off autosave, I crashed trying to enter Subdun. Once I disabled autosave, I was able to enter and leave no problem...unless I try to enter the shrine door.  It will crash no matter how long I wait, which I tried for 36 hours. The second part to this is that my brand new level 1 test character while able to enter Ilunibi and Subdun on the first attempts no problem, cannot however enter Subdun shrine either...

So confusing...I'll try deleting the ini file and if that doesn't work remove the OBSE plugins. Thanks for the suggestions.

obse_jail_fix.dll and OBSE_Kyoma_MenuQue.dll should also go into data/OBSE/plugins. You should delete any OBSE plugin files that are not in that folder ( But obviously not OBSE itself). I suspect that something went really wrong when you installed OBSE or one of the mods. So in the worst case you'll have to reinstall the game and the mods because your issue only affects you so far.

If a crash only happens on a certain character it could also be a corrupted spawn point which you can fix by waiting 3 ingame days or more somewhere else.

Invisible clothing means you're missing the clothing meshes. You might also check if you installed a body replacer and might be missing some files that were installed wrong as well as the skeleton files.

The only thing that really connects the two caves is that they contain ash creatures. Did you already try playing the game without Ash creatures as races.esp or disbling all the other plugins? Are you sure you installed all the files correctly? Can you post a screenshot of your  Oblivion and Data folders?

Since it's an OBSE problem I doubt it's directly related to Morroblivion. It could be a problem with Blockhead and OCO v2 which can cause problems with custom hairs and eyes as far as I know. However I'm using it as well and so are many other people and nobody has had these problems so far.
