Using the shout mechanic in Skywind

Submitted by panacea on

Hi guys, just a little suggestion: Lore-wise, it wouldn't make sense to have thu'um users on Vvardenfell. However I propose that the shout mechanics could still be used in the game, and instead be presented as some kind of powerful magic unrelated to the voice.

My concrete idea was Dagoth Ur using an Unrelenting Force Shout in combat. While it uses this shout's effects and mechanics, it would be "disguised" as powerful magic, with Dagoth Ur dropping some badass line (like "Kneel before a god!") instead of shouting in dragon language. Just to make that final fight more interesting. The Bend Will effect might also fit the mind-manipulating Dagoth Ur well in case you bring followers ("All shall obey!" / "All will be of my flesh!").

I'm not sure if it is hard to adjust the shout sounds of a specific NPC or if anyone finds this idea worthwhile, just thought I'd stop by and let you know how I would try to recycle the shout mechanic for Skywind (if I had any skills :D).

I think it is being re-worked as a cast function for staffs. Allowing staffs to be used in combat as a weapon.

I think I remember it being used for equipable things that cast spells? Like rings, necklaces, clothes etc

the shout control is tied in as an extra function when combining magic and melle.

the actual shouts will be reused for musical-orientated magic used by either ash adepts, or 6th house creatures.
