crashing ALL THE TIME

Submitted by norton159 on

Hi, i recently installed the mod, brilliant work by the way but couldnt get wyrebash to find it so installed it manually. worked fine for about 2 hours as soon as i installed it then closed the computer down. Today when i went to play on it again i cant go for 30 seconds without it crashing. it doesnt give me a reason why it has, i have checked the load order, insalled everything that i should have followed every instruction but to no avail and its driving me mad. the game appears to work perfectly then all of a sudden it crashes. any help please?

Well, in case you haven't done this yet, you can follow the instructions here:
https://tesrenewal.com/forums/morroblivion/mods/753
Stability and Perfomance section.
In case it doesn't help, try disabling any additional mods you may have, then test it's behavior just with master files, knights and shimmering isles dlc and Morrowind_ob.esp. If it is stable, activate mods one by one to check which one causes the game to crash.

i have no other mods but i have found a solution, its at a specific area around seyda neen, i re loaded it and went a different way and not crashed since. i scanned around there but had no luck in finding anything but it does work well now though

I confirm there's a certain problem there. I experienced the same issue in the same area. (And I remember someone mention it before, as well.) Right now I can't check the exact cell numbers, but it was on the way from Seyda Neen and past the Silt Strider. The troubling area stretches up to the little pass near the crossroads to the Andrano Ancestral Tomb (to the north) and to Abaesen-Pulu Egg Mine (to the east). Not a large area, but it effectively stopped me from even entering the village of Seyda Neen.

Another reproducible CTD was in Balmora when I tried to enter Rithleen's place before talking to Caius Cosades. (Afterwards it's okay.)

I had more CTDs - but they were random and quite possibly related to my computer being too old for Morroblivion, so I had to give up betatesting for some time - until I get a better rig.

It might be worth a try regenerating the LOD using TES4LODGen. I used to experience crashes in many places after upgrading from a previous version and doing that seemed to help a lot.

Random repeatable crashes in the landscape are most likely caused by corrupted spawn points. It's something that happens in regular Oblivion as well. Just avoid the area for 3 or more ingame days and it should reset.

Frequent crashes can also be caused by running out of memory. Applying 4gb patches and using Oblivion Stutter Remover and Purge Cell Buffer can reduce this problem significantly.

I don't know about the other guys who experienced this problem, but I'm not exactly new to installing mods (or making some myself), so regeneration of the LOD (with TES4LodGen and with tes4ll), as well as all the other basic solutions given above were the first ones I checked it against. None of them stopped the crashes in this particular area (not random but reproducible), otherwise I wouldn't even mention that - I do know the limitations of my rig, as well as of this engine...

Maybe it's really worth examining this area up close? If at least three random people say the game crashes in exactly the same spot, there may be some other factor than their lack of experience in it, innit?

I'm sorry if the tone of this post seems kind of harsh - it certainly wasn't supposed to sound mean or anything. It just says there might be something more than coincidence to repeatable crashes in the same cell (with no extraneous mods - just the pure basics).

Next time I come back to Morrowind I'll try waiting some more - I admit I might have waited too short, and that may be a rather likely reason of these crashes. (But then, it's worth investigating, too, I guess, to find out which spawn is the rotten one...)

And by the way, thanks again for the great job in general to the whole team.

The thing is, I had examined that area (with several different characters, actually) and, no, it doesn't crash for me. Can't fix something I can't reproduce, sorry.

Potential corrupt spawn is not in the esp file, it's in the game only - which means it cannot be fixed by mod author.

I see. Thanks for reply anyway. I'll try it another time with a fresh install. It's at the top of the list anyway. :) Hopefully then that issue is gone.

Well ive had no other problems, a few crashes here and there but nothing to shout about, however, i do have an annoying bug with joshaba the book guy, he wont talk to me, I was a vampire and tried to speak to him and didnt speak but healed now. Its annoying as I cant do the telvanni quests without him (cant find one book anywhere)

unsure weather to put this on another bug page or what?

This isn't a bug at all. If you're vampire most NPC will refuse to talk or outright attack you. Exceptions are Telvanni and Mages Guild members.

This happens especially on windows XP 32 bit versions. Use this : http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-enable-a-3GB-switch-on-Windows-Vista-Windows-7-or-Windows-XP-s.html

I'd also like to add that every once in a while the game crashes because of something in the world that has loaded (or so I think). It appears that the game will crash every single time when I go that direction, but if I go in another direction and then come here later on - the problem is gone. This forced me to enable fast travel, which I didn't want in the first place. Also, it crashed on me when I ate too many different ingredients.

So for me, it's not crashing all the time, but it does crash frequent.

My game doesn't crash in Oblivion but in Morrowind it happened regularily. My guess always was the sheer number of spawn points/creatures which is much higher in Morrowind. I could solve the situation somewhat by using an automatic memory purge plugin (Oblivion Reloaded in my case).

This also helps with fixing issues where you can't move to a certain direction anymore without reliably crashing the game at the same cell transition. In such case restarting and reloading the savegame doesn't help at all but a manual purge will.
