Oblivion Static Objects to Skyrim

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Hello, TES Renewal and Everyone [External image]

             I'm currently Developing Hammerfell The Eastern Grasslands for Oblivion and I wanted to know, How I would be able to Convert Oblivion Nifs to Skyrim. The nif files are Custom meshes and I do have 3ds max 2012 with the Nif Importer and Exporter plugin.

I have attempted to Convert a Nif but it was either Invisible or Crashes the Creation Kit [External image]And Both of the nif that were converted appeared in Nifscope just fine. [External image]

That's a really good question. What did happen to the conversion tools. I would also like to know for personal reasons. If you find out let me know. Also you would be better off posting in the skyblivion threads as their using them. We've since abandoned them in favor of making everythingg from scratch.

All Skyblivion meshes were converted using custom built converter tool.

I was written by one of the programmers working on Skyblivion, I doubt he gave it any name at all [External image]

Think it was more then just one tool, and they all had there bugs and limitations! I don't think anyone will to go back to that evil mess and try to explain batch-conversion to others. Where all happy that, that part is behind us, and where still thank full for those that put a massive amount of there time into debugging all the CTD models.

I'm just curious. How stable are all the models now? To my understanding there are very little CTD's last time i heard but are all the models converted correctly or are there still a few issues here and there?

Everything is stable, some meshes are still missing though (those with complex animations that converter couldn't handle).

Your using the term "Convert", that is not a correct word to use. You probably exported a model from 3DsMax => that is not Convert. That's a bugged file you got, as there are no bug free 3DsMax exporters available. I guess you did not debug it with NifSkope or any other tool that fixes any remaining issues.

Probably you meant me? It was named ,,copyover_legacy_nif_animations" , lol ( jk, it had no name :) )

A fully working mesh converter is available, I can host it on github if you want it.

Everything should be hosted on Github or svn [External image] If you can add a binary release with at least some instructions on installation/using, that would be great too.

@Drakonman
Ha ha :p Nah, i'll stick to something more casual.

@DaggerfallTeam, everyone else interested
The latest version is currently hosted at https://github.com/Ormin/skyblivion-NIFConverter . While it is not the exact same version I used for creating the latest Skyblivion build, it is really close to it ( and shouldn't be end-result wise any different ), so.. yeah, enjoy

@Ormin

Could you please give me some starting hint on how to use this stuff? I've done quite a bit of TES modding, but I'm not a scripter. To people like me the readme is not very helpful.

@Arthadion
Attach the full error log so we know what's going on. I can't promise I'll help this week as I'm abroad but I'll try to lend a hand eventually.
