Missing File?

Submitted by SchizoidNat on

Whenever I try loading Morroblivion, I get a message saying that morrowind_ob.esp is not loaded. I have tried unzipping both the installer and the resources files multiple times, but that one file is nowhere to be found.

I saw a somewhat similar problem discussed elsewhere in the forum, but unless I misread something, it doesn't help me.

I also saw something similar on Reddit, but that hasn't helped me either...

Can someone please help me out?

Extract Morroblivion_V64_Complete.7z . to your Drive.. In the 00 Core Directory you will find morrowind_ob.esp Cut and paste into your Oblivion\Data Directory.

see if your Game finds it.

But that's what I'm saying. I've tried extracting it a few times, and It's never anywhere in the files that are extracted. And I'm unable to find it, and when I try playing, so does the game. I don't have any file in my 00 Core directory is named that.

No matter how many times I try extracting MorrOblivion_64_Complete, I can't find it, even if i initiate a search throughout my entire drive

Are you using 7z Zip to Extract

Why don't you follow the Detailed Install Instructions? You won't even have to unzip anything. You probably unzipped something the wrong way. Post a pic of your Oblivion data folder.

Yes, I am using 7 zip to extract.
I'm not very experienced with mods, so forgive me if I read/did something wrong, but when I initially tried to get morroblivion running, I did follow the install instructions and I used Wyre Bash. I didn't attempt to extract the files manually until later (see the Reddit link posted above; for some reason one guy was able to fix his issues by manually extracting them, so I tried the same).
Here's my data folder as it currently looks. I hope it helps. Morroblivion is like the only game I've wanted to play all year, but I seem to run into problems at every turn...

Yes, you extracted it the wrong way. The contents of the 01, 02, etc. folders need to be in the data folder, not the folders themselves. I recommend installing all the folders, for the best experience. After that you have to activate the esp files in WryeBash.

Thanks, I'm sure that helps, but the one file I still need isn't there. I still cant find morrowind_ob.esp to save my life.

It's right there in the 00 Core folder.

That's what I'm trying to say. No, It's not. I've checked and checked again, but it's not in the 00 core folder, or any other folder within my oblivion files.
The first time it wasn't there I figured that something just went wrong with unzipping it, but no. I've redownloaded and unzipped the resources file multiple times since I first found out the file was missing. But for some reason, EVERY Single Time I try, that one file is completely missing.

I've had a friend who's more experienced with mods than myself take a look at it, and he agreed with me that there is absolutely no reason why the .esp file should be missing, but for some reason, it is (consistently).
Hypothetical: would it be possible for someone who has a running version of morroblivion to upload a copy of their morrowind_ob.esp so that someone like myself can directly download that one file to their own computer?

Which file did you download? I'll see if it's really missing.

So far I've tried the first three links, and It's missing in all 3. That's why I'm curious if there's something wrong with my computer, or my 7 Zip is messed up, or what.
And that's why I asked if there was a way for someone to upload just that file without the rest of them

I downloaded the first file and it's definitely there. Maybe your download was incomplete or corrupted, it's definitely on your end and who knows if there are more files missing. It's probably the reason why it didn't work with WryeBash.  Try using a Download Manager.

Try Creating a new Directory on your Computer Called 00_Temp Shift the Archive File in to this Directory and Extract there to see if it is a Permission Problem if you are running win 8.

Also, running Oblivion from the Program files folder is known to cause issues as well.

Heh, well I took care of that problem. I put the zipped file on a jump drive, and unzipped it on an old laptop running XP. All of the files appeared and I was able to transfer them back to the data folder where they're supposed to be. However, now whenever I try loading Oblivion, it crashes immediately after starting. Ive tried launching the game through both Steam and Wrye Bash, and I've tried messing with compatibility settings, but no luck yet.

Got that fixed, but now it crashes on every new game when I click out of the create a character screen. fml...
