This is looking really nice, but in further works I would avoid using wood. Ashlanders have very little access to it, and they'd use chitin and bone instead. There are some really fun and creative ways you can use giant insect parts (crab claws or shiny beetle shells) and bones for this kind of thing ;) Also animal teeth and claws. Loving the resin dangly bits though!
Also try to go for less geometric shapes, more organic, primitive and crude forms than a square. I could see this being a good amulet for Zainab though, they love Imperial culture. Who knows, maybe they took a wooden frame that was otherwise useless, but charmed with the Imperial woodcraft they made it a decorative piece ;)
Don't forget to put the netting in the frame--that's the most important part. The dreams pass through the catcher on the way to the sleeper, and the bad ones get caught leaving only good dreams.
Out of curiosity, given that in Elder Scrolls there actually is things like Vaermina and Dagoth Ur, how do you think this protects them?
Use insectoids' parts (and ingredients like Shalk resin too). Some things can be more awful than nice, but this is more like rule in tribal culture. If people can attach magickal significance to dead jerboa-on-a-stick - they can make such fetishistic things from insectoids.
Thanks guys for the suggestions, as I haven't played much morrowind, I didn't know much about the ashlanders but I'm loving the ideas with the bones and chitin I will do a few more dream catcher type things, however if anyone is interested in drawing a string patttern that I can use as a transparent texture woUlf be much appreciated
Hi guys I did a sculpt of a Cliff Racer skull, Idk how similar it looks to the cliff racers in game but let me know what u think. Ill upload a render of both the high poly and low poly, they are UV mapped but no Diffuse as of yet.
General shape is plausible. Detailes required: deeper orbits, nostrils, teeth sockets.
Also you can make it look more light - add some temporal openings. Nice.
Not sure how polygon-efficient that would be, but the eye sockets and nose looks really shallow. Maybe some texture trickery could make it seem deeper?
Hello again guys, the cliff racer skull uses normal maps to simulate that the eye going in, when in fact on the low poly model to cut polygons it doesn't. I have chosen this as I believe it ends up looking better. I have done a few tests with the diffuse, dont really know what i think of it though (never was that amazing at texturing). I have also edited the high poly sculpt making the eyes deeper and adding details such as tooth indents and a bump around the back. Here is a couple of renders. Low poly is currently at 500 tris.
Pictures are as follows: High Poly, Low Poly, High Poly
I also Have done some flag type objects, which just use an already made cloth texture, i plan however to make the cloths have words inscripted onto them however I suck at drawing and dont know what ashlanders would write on their flags. (maybe someone could help me out) heres a few renders to show how I would imagine they would be in the camps. When In game I would plan for them to have cloth physics as well .
Second is with diffuse, First with just normals to give idea of how I sculpted them (the poles and ropes are not part of the object they are mainly there as refrences).
I think you can use more polygons on low-poly skull. If you want - sent hi-poly to me, i will do smth.
---
Do you think writings would fit to ashlanders in general?
Such flags would be better in some civilized town on festival or smth.
I seen only banners (https://tesrenewal.com/files/lukkar/images/example02%281%29.jpg) but not such flags.
I can't really send the high poly as it uses like over 3 mil polygons, but Ill send a higher poly thats like 30 or so thousand, ill pm that to you. With the ashlander flags that was in the ashlander clutter model list, so I just kinda made it, ask Erik bout them and his plans on what to do with them.
That's how i want to upgrade if for know. It need deeper nostrils and orbits on lowpoly.
Such rare thing sure can use more polygons. Maybe that would be nice to merge nostrils (to make them perforated), to make quadrate bones as rings, but idk how to do it. For coloration it need to be more contrast and much more detailed to show light weight of this skull and pieces of flesh in depressions.
I'm liking it alysander, and thank you for the help, how many polys do u suggest then? I'm not quite understanding about the nostris or quadrate bones, could u maybe expand on what u mean. anyways looking good, pm me with details
ahh ok, here i have re sculpted it and baked to a higher poly model (2000 polys so about 4000 tris will make lower however) and think it looks pretty good, it doesnt have a diffuse but I like how alysander did his so i might see if he can do the diffuse for me, the nose now has negative spacing should the eye maybe have a little bit of negative spacing leave as is?. any ways let me know what u think
It's better. But i am trying to finish my variant - i ll send it to you. Combined efforts can be further better - i have not big expierience on work on textures for example.
EDIT: i made my LP, and nif. Textures in morrowind\clutter\bones
There is basic textures from sculpt and postprocessed with details or existing textures.
Hey here is a dreamcatcher made from bones, thanks erik for providing me with the bones. the top of the Dreamcatcher is meant to be made of trauma root sanded down and the transparent netting or string is taken from a picture of a dreamcatcher so its not final
Ok, If you mean for the dream catcher those bones arent mine, Erik just sent them to me to use however I see what you mean Ill play around with the textures see what I come up with.
If textures are done well enough, the best solution is double texture and work on mask and modes in Ps. Also brushes from this site would be useful too especially rock 2009 and basic 2008.
bones are quite too massive comparing to skull (if that's human bones)
i am making crude rack from sticks&bones for dead animals, i think it can be combined with this bone chimes / dreamcatcher.
Hi here is a render of a dream catcher based off RomanDubinas concept art, this is based on the second picture. The textures use alphas for flowers and string. This is definately not final because I need some to draw me a pattern for the netting, so this netting is a stand in. Lowish poly about 800 tris . Let me know what you think. EDIT: hade no normals oops
another dreamcatcher based on Romans Concept, needs heaps of work especially the crystal and the bones textures but its getting there I figured id post it anyway as I will be busy in the next couple of days so it wont be updated, in a while
I created concept for additional things which could be useful
1.-6. are quite optional
1. Letters on bug shell are remains of traditions of mephala, boethiah, azura cult. Distorted letters which lost meanings after millennia.
6. Rings are made of trama roots
7. 8. 9. are some kind of holders (herbs, potions, etc.) which in my opinion are assets which will be really useful (of course herbs and bottles will be added in CS). Quite important in this case is having knot big enough to hold various things from twig to bottle. 10. Besides added colorful stones this rope is holder for various things. It would be good to receive effect similar to this (1, 2) It would be really useful in witch hut.
10. Just rope with colorful rocks which can be holder too.
Also reusing things from skyrim would be nice too.
Here is something I came up with for the Ashlanders camps. it can be used to hang things such as my previously completed dreamcatchers, the flags I did and possibly dead animals of some sort. However I also think it looks good maybe lining a path just with rocks hanging on it. The idea of the rocks came from Lukkars above post so thank you for the concepts.
Heres the box, no lid, gonna make it detachable. Oops forgot to add lots more leather straps oh well will upload another pic tomorrow with a few updates
Heres a scene with all current assets for ashlands (not including any dreamcatchers or hanging rope) I hope these assets are up to scratch with everyone, will add more make more soon.
The number of segments is only important in case if it’s going to have havoc and behave like rope. In case if its not, I wouldn’t even bother. A couple of cuts will do it, without being drastic for poly count.
This is looking really nice, but in further works I would avoid using wood. Ashlanders have very little access to it, and they'd use chitin and bone instead. Could be made of Trauma Root. Looks nice!

This woodoo supermarket can be good reference to general idea (~18% NFSW): https://www.google.ru/search?q=Akodessewa+Fetish+Market&sour...
Definitely would like to see some bone chimes. http://pre09.deviantart.net/eb5a/th/pre/i/2012/211/5/9/the_bone_wind_chime_by_autumnscarlettrain-d594xvr.jpg
Hi guys I did a sculpt of a Cliff Racer skull, Idk how similar it looks to the cliff racers in game but let me know what u think. Ill upload a render of both the high poly and low poly, they are UV mapped but no Diffuse as of yet.
First is High Poly, Second Low Poly
General shape is plausible. Detailes required: deeper orbits, nostrils, teeth sockets.

I think what he means for the nostrils is to have them more like actual birds, with negative space for the nostrils. http://smithsonianscience.si.edu/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/63709_orig.jpg

more like this

i am making crude rack from sticks&bones for dead animals, i think it can be combined with this bone chimes / dreamcatcher.
Somehow I feel this pattern of dreamcatcher would fit ashlanders a bit better:

More crude and less regular, more like their culture.
Maybe something like this:
Really love the Moon and Star Deamcatcher :D
The moon and star dream catcher is indeed very cool!
Fantastic Concept, Roman!

Fixed the strings to be those from the concepts. The object is done If people need it

double post
If you would have some question just send me PM ;)
Bone chandelier is nice. I made simpler skull-lamp on based on. I wonder how to make fire on it.

However I also think it looks good maybe lining a path just with rocks hanging on it. The idea of the rocks came from Lukkars above post so thank you for the concepts.
Small thing for hanging stuff around in ashlander camps, bottle is there for inspiration. Can maybe hang herbs, Dead animals, what not.
Basic crate
It is light weight and designed to be used for traveling with goods that cannot be crushed/be placed in a sack or bag.
I have only one note to rope.
Just more gentle curvy shape.
@alysander
Theoretically fire could light up rope. But it is cool as it is.
