Lighting Overhaul

I have been working on fixing the lighting issues in game. Thus far i have 4 chapels complete. The main issue I'm working around is that the chapels interior are 2 solid pieces with multiple floors. Iv been moving lights around, expanding lights, and sadly having to delete lights. I'm trying to maintain the vanilla Oblivion integrity with much success.

Once i get everything looking less like a rave and more like a game I plan on redoing the lighting entirely. Right now I'm working on quick simple fixes and eventually wish to make it look like the screenshot provided (that will not be how it looks once iv fixed the lights but an idea in the distant future if i continue beyond the light flickering)

Note: I totally messed up the name in this. Sorry, not fixing. This is why proof reading is a necessary step for anything. Lesson learnt.

Not changing, four hours of video rendering plus another 2 hours to upload. Nopenopenopenopenopenopenope.

Thanks a lot, really breathtaking seeing familiar places with completely different vastly improved look.

By the way, is it just me or not a single light flickers there? Also I think that candle light bulbs can be dimmer, they are too bright right now for such a tiny light source, but that is subjective.

Awesome work!

I agree, however lighting up an area is challenging. In oblivion they made random lights appear everywhere for no reason. If a light is around I want there to be a reason instead of just it being light up for developer convenience/ Player convenience. I would rather have a super bright candle than just a room magically light up for no apparent reason.  At least with an over bright candle you can say it may have magical properties to it. If a light is just there with no real source.. I mean you could argue the "candle light" spell be active in that location but even that has its limits and comes from a source. "magic" is kind of a shitty excuse but thats why im not a writer....

Why did the views on my youtube video tipple overnight?

Because it got on some news and community sites. For example you can post it on reddit yourself and get another 50k views at least if you really want it.

Just in case you or any one on the skywind team don't know about this mod, here is a link. Seems like it could help a lot with implementing better lighting. Your work looks awesome Drakonman. Really looks fantastic. And I enjoy your enthusiasm and vision of the game. Just In Time Lighting Dynamic Scripts and Tutorial by Daemonjax http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/10361/?

This is really interesting, Its close to how I'm working with the lights. Anything that you aren't looking at or isn't visible i force to unload (well specifically lights). Even though in the one video where High Hrothgar had 15 Shadow Casting lights, you can actually do the same thing with using room portals. Forcing everything that isn't in the area you are in to unload. Iv managed to get 18 Shadow casting lights to work in one interior cell without issue. This mod though... colour me intrigued...

I knew about that JIT lighting script, but the amount of time needed to set it up properly does not worth it imho. Maybe when you need to tweak  few cells like a new house mod for example, but not when there are hundreds of cells.

Relighting Skyrim uses it by the way.

This allows for global directional lighting on interior cells like you have for exterior. I may actually use this.

Amazing work! Never thought Oblivion could look this awesome. Dungeons look way darker and atmospheric than the original Oblivion and I love it.

I had a question though, if I remember it correctly, in Skyrim windows are reflective, but in Oblivion (and in Skyblivion they are not), wouldn't it be possible to make windows (both inside and outside) highly reflective and semi transparent to make it look like there is light coming out of them?

There was a Visible Windows mod for Skyrim that semi accomplished this:

But what I am talking about is there was an old Oblivion mod where you could (barely) see the interiors and exteriors, similar to this:

I believe it was made using a screenshot of the outside and using it as a skybox. (and making it not too visible) Ahhh... I just can't find it. It is one of those dead mods I guess. But I thought it was pretty neat at the time.
