Hey everyone, started working on staff of worms. Currently aiming to combine bones and some organic stuff around it. Nexos also suggested to get some vikings patterns in (will be focusing on that part in lineart stage). Also another suggestion was from alexandra to make skull out of bugs, i like the idea :) Anyway here is first set of thumbnails, any suggestions/directions/comments greatly appreciated.

My vote's for 1, I think. Simple, and yet fittingly grotesque. I also like the look of 15, but that seems just a little too much.

I agree that 1 is best, but I really like 14 and 15, especially the creepy arm. It's like the perfect necromancers staff.

Double post :p

I really like #14. It might be a bit much, knowing where this is going, but some cool ideas goin on here.

I really like the twisted handles on 4 and 11.  It would be pretty cool to see the bottom of 4 paired with the top of 1.  Perhaps it would be too macabre, but it might even be cool to have some sort of thin spinal column wind all the way down the handle.

I like 1st and 14th personally the most.  But my top choice is first. Just it is cool and simple enough at once.

Also another suggestion was from alexandra to make skull out of bugs, i like the idea

Maybe better idea is to make it as made of bone like the rest (just grooved skull that it looks like made of worms). But also add to it some varnish which mimics worms slippery.

Personally I actually like 12, I read it as two bony worm shapes curling into an intricate center point on the staff. Either direction it goes will be great, because these silhouettes are fantastic! Keep it up!

Ty guys for feedback!

Some line stuff and a bit of rendering on first one, will do a couple more.

edit: added quick render of 3rd and combination

Omg 2 is definitely the best! The ram skull looks really ornate and morbid, plus it also adds a little more bulk to the staff, giving it a larger width really increases it's intimidation factor.

The main body of the staff could be sleek and leech-like, with some gruesome wormy teeth like the barnacles in HL2 or the scoleces of parasitic worms in addition to the humanoid/animal bones. Or it could be bone or wood with a leechy thing wrapping up and around it.

2 looks really nice, kind of a if all else fails then bash them over the head with it impression.

2 and 4 are both really cool.

I'm really digging the goat skull in number two! Plus it's got that sexy spiral going on down the handle.

Really nice stuff here ! good job.

For what is constructive : the goat or horse skull looks way too druid to me,1 and 3, too generic.  Whereas the one with the rotting arm really is really morbid, evokes necromancy : Mannimarco. Really nice idea here.

2 and 4 are my favorites by far, while I love the look of 2 I have to agree with will_xillow that it looks very druid. I think 4 is the best because it's original and morbid. Really good stuff you have here.

Looking good so far. Now do not forget that these artifacts were crafted by an Altmer. Going for really crude design might not really fit the "classy yet creepy" style of the necromancer who created these. When you're 1000+ years old, even if your hobby is to dig corpses out, I think you're wealthy enough to afford nice materials.
So for me, creepy, yes.
Cheesy, not really.
Try maybe to imagine how an evil Elrond would have made his stuff.

So i was thinking about nexos comment, and thought what if we cast hand and bone on bottom into gold and leave head crude for contrast, also version with some blood on top.

While it does looks really cool, the dangling bits on the fingers wont work in game, physics ect..

I really like the idea of the hand being metal, but perhaps having the hand grasping the top of the skull rather than dangling over it would make for a much more elegant and simple design, something like this:

Obviously the hand would be gripping the skull more menacingly than shown above, with the fingers enclosing the skull more, and the fingernails digging in

It has been a while since i have posted anything but i figured that i would chime in on this topic. I made a quick edit of your design (like the direction) but i think the top looks a little funky and unwieldy. the edit i made is a little closer to the silhouette in oblivion but with the awesome motifs and color schemes of your design

I really starting to like this whole design of having the hand holding the skull, however we need to add something else. I can't quite pin point it, but it looks really bare on the top. Idk perhaps some sort of head dress like this on the skeleton:

Now obviously this is a very rough Idea, but I think having something fan out of the skull really "Completes" the look, having it bare just looks odd. Food for thought I suppose
