Dear readers,
[About me]
My name is Björn Broer, born on the 11th of December, 1993 in a city called Geleen, in the nether..... lands.
I've been watching the progress of the SkyWind team for quite a while now, looking for a moment to apply and help out. Holiday is soon to come, which means I have enough "free" time to finally help out! My holiday starts the 8th of July, and lasts untill the 4th of September, after which I return to school, for the last 10 weeks of university. After that, I am a qualified software developer in the IT field, with my HBO-ICT diploma!
When I'm not busy with school, I spend my free time with paying piano (and ocarina as of last month), writing and drawing, parkour and scouting and of course: gaming.
I am multi-disciplinary; I have been taught a very important lesson: everyone can become anything, as long as they have the incentive for it. I've used this lesson to teach myself how to play piano, how to draw and write stories. I've also used this advice to teach myself some new programming languages. More about this later.
Bottom line is: wherever you need me, I'll try my best to figure it out.
[Skills]
I am an application developer, which means this field is my main focus. I've learned quite a few skills during my time in university. Not all of these skills are relevant for this application, so I'll filter out the skills that are:
Coding: I've had my fair share of programming during my time in university. We've had to write programs, for both desktop and mobile devices, in a bunch of different languages. These languages include, but are not limited to: C, C++, C#, C-Objective, Java, Javascript and Web (HTML, CSS, XML). To code in these languages, I've used a few development environments, including, but not limited to: Visual Studio 2010/2013/2015 Ultimate, Eclipse for C/Eclipse for Java, xCode, Xamarin Studio and SublimeText.
Writing: I've had to create an acre of amazon forest trees worth of documentation. All of which have been reviewed by fellow students, peers and teachers. These reviews have helped me create qualitatively good documentation, which helped with my own story writing.
I've also helped some of my friends with writing stories; friends asking how to write a certain piece came to me, asking for help. We figured it out together, which gave me more ideas and techniques for my own stories.
Music/SFX: As explained in my intro, I've self-taught playing the piano. I've been playing for about 5 years now (I believe it has been more than that. I've lost track, really). I've also picked up the ocarina recently, and have been practicing for about a month now.
My setup is a Yamaha PSR E423 with sustain pedal and stand. I've bought myself some equipment to record my keyboard via the line-in, to create a better sound than the USB MIDI I've used before, and am very happy with the result.
Voice Acting: I've really no experience with voice acting, apart from recording lines for an animation short I've created with some friends during highschool. Though, I am willing to give it a shot; I've been praised by friends and relatives for mimicing accents.
I am fluent in Dutch and English, quite good in German, know a bit of French and am learning Japanese, Russian and Arabic.
Using my knowledge of all these languages, I can mimic English accents influenced by these countries, and more. Piratespeak, German-English, French-English (not quite as good as the rest, if I do say so myself) and more. I have a vocal range that's quite unnatural for a man. I can sing in the range from Bass (~E2) to Mezzo-Soprano (~C5). I don't know if this is helpful in any way, but I just wanted to share this piece of information.
[Why I want to join?]
I want to join, because I am really hyped for this project, ever since I've first caught wind of it. It's been lying on my shelf for things-to-do and I think it's time to finally contribute to this project! I want to put my acquired skills to use, improve upon them and help a great community build this game and many more gamers enjoy it. My main motto in life is: If you do something good for someone, someday, somewhere and somehow, this will be returned to you. "Everything gets a return", as Morgan from the Walking Dead would say. Even if I don't get anything physical or emotional in return from someone else, I will get the satisfaction that people use the things I make and do. That's enough motivation for me! I can't wait to get my hands dirty and finally use my skills in a real project, instead of the fake ones for study purposes in school.
If you require more information, or just want to chat a bit more, hit me up on the website, Skype, FaceBook, WhatsApp, you name it.
I want to wish you all a fine day, and hopefully we'll be in touch soon!
With kind regards,
Björn Broer

Greetings magicbjorn,
Greetings magicbjorn,
SFX and music are pretty full at the moment. That doesn't mean they won't open up, but I'd need to see some SFX creation.
The other departments will contact you, but I believe this weekend is booked up for the team leads. I would suggest to private message each of them so when they get back they will be in direct communication with you.
Cheers!
