Damage Attribute should be Drain Attribute?

Submitted by Parabox on

Every time I run into a bonewalker I cower in fear because it will damage my strength beyond belief, forcing me to drop half my inventory. Now that I'm in a later stage of the game I have the same with some of Dagoth Ur's kin (the ash vampires), which makes it nigh impossible to defeat some of them.

If my memory serves me well, these effects were temporary and a damaging spell is never temporary. It's greatly annoying having to drop all my armour and most of my weapons, having to run to a shrine in order to fix my attributes and later retrieving this equipment again.

This particular ash vampire, Dagoth Tureynul, also seems to have some kind of instant death spell. It paralyzes me, and before I know it I'm dead, while the moment before my health bar was full.

No, It is correct the way it is! It should indeed be damage attribute. You can fix yourself up at a temple.  Try putting your own summoned creatures between you and it!

Edit: They normally only do something  like 2-3 points of damage attribute per spell, how bad is the damage you are facing?

Up to 30 points in strength, and it tends to stack. I have had a case where I had -39 strength, a situation I presume one would never encounter in vanilla Morrowind or Oblivion.

Ya. It killed me. I made myself a restore strength spell for cases like that.

30 points!  Yeah that's screwed.  The worst I've ever come away with is about 12-15 down on strength and about 9 down on fatigue.  Someone definitely needs to tone it down a little!

Edit:  No I am wrong apparrently. greater bonewalkers have damage strength 5-12 points on touch  and damage endurance 5-12 points on touch

basically your getting hit too often! keep your distance and throw spells at it instead!

lesser bonewalkers have drain strength and fatigue spells.

The effects for Greater BoneWalker are supposed to be Damage Attribute and not Drain (UESP).

Just ran into a bonewalker, who damaged my strength and personality by hitting me multiple times. My carrying capacity (encumbrance) was now 0. I cast a Divine Intervention, drank Sujamma (now my encumbrance was 145 due to Sujamma, but strength is at -29), and was somehow able to stagger into the Imperial Altar area.

I paid the 25 gold coins for restore attributes and another 25 for another blessing, but i still have 0 encumbrance. Had to use UOP's restore attribute feature to get out of this one.

It appears this restore attributes blessing is broken for the Imperial Altar, or I am doing it wrong. Any suggestions?

Changed to "needs review", so is visible to the powers that be. Please feel free to another status if you think appropriate.

I don't see anything wrong with altar spell. Did you have any other active effects on you?

It looks like Bonewalker curse is a bit stronger in Morroblivion, than it was in Morrowind - I'll post a fix for that.

So the way it should work is that a temple spell, or an imperial cult spell should "restore attributes", if you can get to one, correct?

The spell in Fort Pelagiad did nothing for me, but I will try to recreate the situation to see if that helps.

The bonewalker's curse left me with 145/0 encumbrance, implying I was frozen to the spot. This had a constant effect (no timer) in the right-hand top, just the drain strength and personality symbols. Would a dispel potion cure the curse (I guess not)? In essence, how should I be able to move after fighting a bonewalker - will a potion/spell cure this effect?

They damaged you Strength with Damage Attribule, Encumbrance is only a derivative stat. It can be counteracted with any spell\potion with 'Restore Strength' effect (including altars). Effects like 'Increase Strength' or 'Feather' will also help, though only temporarily.
