[REL][WIP] Morrowind Eye Project

This mod only edits eyes. I have started a continuation of it that makes characters even more similar to their Morrowind versions. See the race list below to check which races are already available.

In Morrowind, different races had very different eyes. High elves had a golden tint. Nords generally had light blue eyes. Wood elves had dark or, sometimes, almost solid black eyes. Dark Elves ranged from a white sclera to red to purple. And each race allowed for variations.

Oblivion took a very different direction. It offered the player three eyes in total, with a mandatory style for some races, and that was it.

One can look for narrative reasons for this. Oblivion pits all races of cosmopolitan Cyrodiil against extradimensional demons, so it's not strange that they all look similar. By contrast, Morrowind had many reasons to emphasize differences, as Vvardenfell was a place of conflict between races and cultures.

Anyway, the point is that I am trying to bring back the Morrowind aesthetic by giving different eyes to the different races, and distributing them according to the looks of the characters in Morrowind. Each mod adds about a dozen new eyes. Arguably, one wouldn't need that many, but it's easier for me to do it that way, and easier to correct it in the future, should need arise.

The mod includes glowmaps, in case you use glowing eyeballs (I do).

Currently done and ready for download:

The installation is the usual method, extract the archives in the Data folder, or, better, use a mod manager. This mod uses an esp file. It's possible that you will need a bashed patch to avoid overwriting other elements, if you are using other mods that alter the characters. Unfortunately, I don't have much experience with them, so you will need to google for it, or ask someone else. On my PC, it is compatible with OCO, as long as you put these .esp before OCO.

OCO isn't needed to use these mods.

I currently don't know how to force a certain kind of eye when the character turns into a vampire, so I'll have to learn that... But NPC vampires will have vampire eyes, Morrowind style (mostly white).

This is all released in the public domain.

Your picture has OCO faces. Are we going to be forced to use OCO?

To use this mod? No. The only dependencies of the .esp are Oblivion.esm and Morrowind_ob.esm, and the eye textures are all new. I haven't tested it on a new installation, but it should work without problems.

While it's true that we should not be forced to play with a particular mod, honestly, Oblivion's faces are a bit outdated - I am not playing Oblivion without this mod nowadays.

I am sorry, but this is a matter of taste. I very much dislike the "improvements" that OCO brings to Oblivion. So if any mod requires OCO, I won't be using it. I am glad that the eye mod can be used with vanilla head meshes as well.

All of the over 1,400 Dunmer

All of the over 1,400 Dunmer of Morroblivion have been added! So Dark Elves, High Elves, Wood Elves, Nord, and Redguard are now available.

I have noticed that the normals have a white alpha layer, which makes reflections very strong. I'll probably upload a file with all normals without alpha or with the alpha set to middlegray, so it's possible to have normal reflections.
