Sleepers Don't Attack Me.

Submitted by Ice on

I think I remember being attacked by sleepers in Balmora when I used to play Morrowind. On Morroblivion's main quest I saw clothless sleeper cult people in caves, but I never saw normal people 'pulled over to the dark side' and come attack me.

I think this is a bug, if I'm remembering correctly.

EDIT:

Uhh... I can't seem to edit this as fixed / closed... But it is, or should be...

I asume you mean the thing where a sleeper tries to kill you when you sleep? There is at least part of the script active, as I have gotten the message when I wake up ("A dark force aproaches" or something to that effect) but almost never have I gotten the sleeper spawning anywhere near me, occasionaly they would appear outside of wherever I was sleeping but mostly it was just a message that popped up on-screen.

Not sure how close the sleeper is spawned or if it's an actual citizen that 'turns' but in the latter case it might very well be a case of pathfinding messing it up.

I remember two things happening:

1) haveing dreams that were really scary when I used to play. (In the game, not in real life, lol). Talk of golden people and then they turn on you or something.

2) Talking to normal citizens in the town of Balmora and asking them about a certain topic, sleeping, or sixth house or something, and then them telling me to join Dagoth Ur. They used to say something along the lines of "I am a sleeper, but I shall awaken when the time comes, to the glory of Dagoth Ur" or something of the like. Then when you reach a certain part of the main quest and 'reject Dagoth Ur's freindship' if you ask them about sixth house they call you a traitor and attack you...

I had slight experiance with #1 in morroblivion, but I just had one dream and I believe the quest is still unfinished.

I had no expeiance with # 2 in morroblivion, though its possible I ran through the main quest to quickly and tunnelvisioned  to notice.

I remember something about a dark presence aproaching from the old days, but other than that I don't remember what you are talking about.... its been so long....

If they spawn, then i could see it being a path finding problem. It's just that I remember triggering a normally harmless person through dialogue...

Brain... so... dusty...

I think this is the thing your talking about, appearantly it gets triggered after the 1st Cosades quest.

The dreams, altough I sadly enough don't remember them are probably prerendered and like the other Morrowind movies probably won't work until that whole issue gets fixed.

I have talked to more or less dormant sleepers that don't actually attack you, they'll talk about the glory of Dagoth and all that (altough I prolly did'nt bother talking to them throughout the main quest as I kinda rushed it), I think if you enter Balmora via the south there's a sleeper hanging around during the day somewhere near. And if they survive the main quest they'll give you a reputation point and some useless trinket for being such a cool Nerevarine,

There are more, 14 according to the wiki.

"Each time they speak to you, their disposition towards you will drop. Be careful, if they hate you enough they might attack you."

Yup. You got it Wodan. I must have been repeatedly asking them about the sixth house until they attacked me.

Agreed, in Morroblivion I kind of rushed the main quest as well, and afterwords the dreamer quest did update and tell me to talk to people, and one did thank me and say he had been a sleeper.

If you don't mind, explain to me this prerendered thing. Is this why we don't have some of the old movies? I looked through the morrowind directory (my actual morrowind game) and didn't find an intro bik. Is this because its prerendered/ what exactly does that mean?

I'm going to go ahead and mark this bug as 'fixed', though I guess it was never broken. Thanks for figureing it out for me. :D

Lemme try to explain the whole rendering thang:

When your computer want's to display something in a game it needs a form of reference, either it creates/renders them on the spot by combining meshes, textures and making a 3d models according to the programs code or having the view already defined for them, prerendered, or to use a more common term a video file (avi, mpg, etc), instead of making models it uses a technique like a slideshow (or more like a slideshow where you impose new parts of a picture onto another but don't worry about the details).

Oblivion, as you can see by the starting movie does actually contain movie files, possibly due to codecs or convoluted programming though they hav'nt managed to get it to work with Morroblivion yet.

Perhaps one day.

Sooooo.... .biks are basically pre-rendered files?

If so I thought we could just type in to the console 'playbik intro' and if there is an 'intro' file in videos the game would play it.

However I don't have an intro bik.

I loaded morrowind and started a new game. The intro movie is sooooo bad quality. Never mind, we should be using stuff like Chesko's HD Morrowind Intro. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39672 I now understand why we arn't using the old stuff, regardless of compatability, lol.

Thanks Wodan. :)

Yeah a .bik is basicly a fancy form of .avi.

And if your correct about how easy this is I actually would'nt mind them doing it, I can overlook bad graphics if it's relevant to the plot (I remember the ending movie from the original MQ very vividly).

The ending video in present in Additional Support Files 1 and IS scripted to work. (it plays when Azura greets you after destroying Dagoth Ur).

The intro video also works if you have Thermador's Chargen mod (http://morroblivion.com/forums/morroblivion/mods/1340), though you need to manually copy it from the Morrowind CD to Oblivion\Data\Video

Indeed you could probably copy the new HD version of the video and that should work as well.

I think I completed the MQ on v33, is this a recent addition or might there be something wrong with my game?

And if the scripts work getting the dream sequences to work should be fairly easy as well, figure out what triggered them and your a ending movie script copypaste away from having the dreams back.

I don't remember which version it was added in, but if Akulakhan's destruction animation and the Heart of Lorkhan's ELemental shields work ... then the video should work as well.

Try this:

- Open console (~)
- Type in PlayBink "mwend.bik" 1
- Press enter

If it doesn't work then make sure mwend.bik exists in Oblivion\Data\Video\

The dreams were never pre-rendered videos. They were pop-up text messages. Only the bloodmoon dreams were videos.

I had sporadic video plays at best and couldn't figure out why. Haha, I never thought that the videos would be on the cd. So when I transfered the morrwind files I just got the bloodmoon videos.... Thanks Hashmi.

I'm gonna do that with the hd video. I like that idea.

Thanks guys!

Yes. Thank you. Until know I was just too noobish to know how to close it. I thought the options were in editing the first post..... got it now. Thanks for closing it for me Hashmi.
