Leaving Vvardenfell

Submitted by Dave B on

I came to this site in August of 2010 to experience Morrowind. What I found was a totally decrepit, totally unplayable mess. I set about making it playable. On April 1st 2011 I began a new game in Vvardenfell. Since then:

  • I have made 8,106 Saves in 379.58 Hours
  • I have completed 373 Quests
  • I have freed 117 Slaves
  • I have collected 1559 Dwemer Coins and 407 Ash Statues
  • I have harvested 1572 Kresh Fiber and 2476 Marshmerrow
  • I have killed 134 Vampires and 1033 Cliffracers

I would have to say at this point that I have succeded in making Morroblivion playable. Of course, I have had a little help:

  • Thank you to the Queen of the Ashlands, without whom this project would be nothing
  • Thank you to Eloth, who has spent more time on Morroblivion than anybody
  • Thank you to Hashmi, who is currently the Senior member of this community
  • Thank you to Thermador for taking over control of this site
  • Thank you to EVERYBODY that has contributed!

I have never Played Morrowind. I don't think most people realize that, or really understand how much of a disadvantage for me that has been. Still, I think I've done OK. I will continue to assemble the Master, as long as people send me things; I am not going to search through the forums for things to include. And, I will come back for Bloodmoon, East Empire Company, and Tribunal. To me, the whole point of Morroblivion is that I can take this same character to Cyrodiil. Cyrodiil is where I really belong. I am not a native of Vvardenfell; I am and always will be an Outlander...

Thank you for all that you have done David! I also remember when Morroblivion was just a barren, unplayayable game.

Good luck to you in Cyrodiil, and come back and visit because I still have to send you my Voice files when I'm done ;)

Thank you David for all you have done. You are a real Nerevarine of Morroblivion.com. Have fun in Cyrodiil, i know i am, maybe meet you in Kings&Queens Tavern for an Ale:)

As far as I'm concerned this is the best Oblivion mod ever released, and the only reason I will install Oblivion from time to times in years to come.

Thank you David, and all the other people that made this mod into what it is right now.

I'm amazed you never played Morrowind, or never even had the tendency with all the hours of work you put into this, it makes the whole accomplishment all the more amazing though.

Good luck with whatever you'll be doing with your new free time.

I did a doubletake on some of those statistics. That is a lot of saves and a lot of hours!

Thanks for all your hard work here! Morroblivion is no longer decrepit; it's one of the best mods out there!

Come back and visit some time, and let us know if you make any mods for Oblivion.

Good work David!

David: I really appreciate your time and effort to lead this project and bring it to this fairly polished state. What takes a team of professionals, you have managed to do with a bunch of dedicated and very-talented volunteers.

What you have accomplished is beautiful, and should be something that should definitely go down in your accomplishment lists (and definitely a resume if you think about being a game designer!).

The first time I tried Morroblivion, the mod that was set to blow my mind (I started with, and somewhat prefer, Morrowind you see) was in the fall of 2009. It had tremendous promise, but it was very lonely. I was able to roam the land and grab uber items with nary a scrib to stop me, and I was a little alarmed at all the people who had no arms. When I read up on what quests were available, I believe that there were very few if any at that point.

I sort of left and moved onto other games, but still go through Oblivion and Morrowind a couple times a year. The promise of a pocket Morrowind within the advanced Oblivion engine always enticed me, but the rough install process and lonely worldscape sort of turned me away.

Then I stumbled onto the site again just yesterday, was amazed at all the improvements (what a difference a year or two makes), and despite knowing full well that I would fail miserably at the new installation method, careful following of well-crafted videos (and a readme or two) got me back into Morroblivion on my first try.

This time, I saw monsters. I saw quests. By god, I saw arms. I sat in amazement that it was actually happening- I was actually playing an incredibly functional copy of one of my favorite games of all time, right within one of my other ones. I really could bounce between them now. I really could be Martin's protector and Nerevarine at the same time. It was a dream I didn't think I'd experience.

I only just joined this site- today is my first official day- but if I see a hallowed member of the team taking some time away, I'm going to take the opportunity to say thank you nonetheless. It's incredible to be able to do what we're able to do in this game, and we have all of you guys (and gals) to thank. Seriously, this project is a wonderful experience and you've all done a fantastic job.

Thank you for your efforts, and keep up the good work wherever it may be.
