While working on the Morroblivion World Space mod I did a TON of swimming around in Morrowind. I noticed that most of the cells near the outskirts of the map were supposed to contain nothing but water, but when swimming in them they contained nothing, not even water.
Is this a bug or does the engine just generate empty cells when cells are too far away from land? I think its a bug because my character continues to swim for a couple cells.
This would really be a negligitable issue, but some of the cells without water are between Vvardenfell and Solsthiem, and that means thta people who want to swim there or back again (something I always swim on my first trip to Solsthiem) will have to swim through waterless cells.
I think this is a small bug. It would be nice to one day be able to swim anywhere in Morroblivion without haveing to worry about waterless cells, and even nicer to be able to swim to and from Solsthiem without weirdness. I'm posting this for further down the road when we're polishing Morroblivion up, but also in case there is a simple fix for this issue. What exactly is causing it?
Thakns guys,
Iceburg

Figured as I needed some athletics training I'd attempt the crossing, from the northwestern most shrine of Morrowind this took me about 5 minutes and was very uneventful, just lots of water, then swam to Khuul still without any glitches. I did all this during the night, when I gave it another go during the day the holes started appearing, you can still get from the shrine to solstheim no problem but at around the height of the Maddas Grotto the holes come up.
So you can still get to Solstheim swimming fairly easily but yeah, 'water-roaming' would be problematic.
Right. ya it doesn't cause any problems that arn't just aesthetic, but it does break that suspension of disbelief.
That pickachu cracks me up.
Wilderness Cells beyond the main 'playable area' were generated by the Morrowind game engine on spot and not stored in a heightmap ... otherwise an infinite world would have needed infinite disk space.
In Oblivion we were never meant to to go beyond certain boundaries ... and so the engine is not designed to make wilderness cells.
If you want to fix this then you have to edit any "holes" within the construction set and save them in the heightmap ... but this needs to be done with every cell that you need rendered and so it is impossible unless you want to make some boundaries.
Huh. That makes complete sense.
In that case I guess we really want to leave it be then, though should we do that water which is directly between solsthiem and vvardenfell, for those who want to swim back and fort?
Would that someone by any chance happen to be you? lol.
How hard is it to make a height map? I've never even looked into something like that....
I am using (and likeing) under the sign of the dragon.
(Check out this mod I made for it so that you can walk to Morroblivion from Cyrodiil: http://morroblivion.com/forums/morroblivion/general/1861 )
I'm confused. All the cells of water are fine in the tamriel world space, but they are missing in wrldmorrowind. Are you saying I could move files from one to the other somehow?
Just open the CS and change the land elevation of the cells between Solstheim and Vvardenfell ... and save that as a plugin.
That makes sense.
haha :) ..... :0 .... No
D:
I didn't even start. I looked at it and it looked hard and I couldn't figure it out / got bored. So I went on to other stuff....
I decided I wanted to learn about blender more than I wanted to learn how to height edit. Though it would be smart for me to learn how to do this some day....
Do you know how to do it?
If someone taught me that would be cool.... *nudge nudge* ;)
I can't even make a single quest so hell no.
haha :D
okay.
Onra may work on adding distant LOD to surround Vvardenfell to help this mod. If he does, then its possible he may be willing to add water to cells as well. He sounds pretty busy, but maybe some day.....
:D
This esp should fill the gaps in water between Vvadenfell & Solstheim and also push water a little farther away around all Vvardenfell

Merged in v056!
That's awesome! Thanks qwertyasdfgh! (And Thermador!)
