All the models in this thread need to be redone for legal and esthetic purposes before we will do a release . If you feel like you can contribute by doing some or all of these models then please leave a comment at the bottom of this thread.
Let us know what 3d modeling program and also what year it is you use, as we need to find out if we need to convert the files for you or get you setup with appropriate importers.
We are also looking for people who can compare a similar tileset done by our partner project Siligrad Tower to match up models, so that its less work. We need long time lurkers who want to do grunt work basically. Time to help, if you want to play the game.
Ravanna has created textures to help with these models already

rekreations started these already, I did common textures for them, that was for posts, post ends, rope, and wooden planks
Its been a month since reckreation logged in, so we definitely need somebody to step up and do these.
Yoink! I'll have a go at these since I just did all the rope and poles I can probably copy and paste my way to victory!
Right, I started these today and tried out some more ideas which I hope look good.
Here is a shot of the first bridge.
Ahhhhhhhhh yeeeeeeeeeaaaah
Could you also do the collision meshes for these? Just make them planes along the planks and rails.
very good ! no complains. :)
Right, :P Here is a group shot of the first 3 bridges. The collision models are invisible, but there.
These looks really good :)
Heh, 3 down 14 to go :) Hopefully I will speed up as I progress here, taking 3-4 hours each which is more then I was hoping. Hoping to eventually get it down to 1 hour each.
Edit: Actually have a 4rd bridge :P
Also these newer uploads are in 1920 - 1080, so right click them and open them in a new tab for a bit more detail! :D
Edit 2 : Have another one, thats 5 down ummm 12 more to go?
i like your work very much, its crafted very well..i have one suggestion in mind. can you add a nail head texture or woodnail for the woodplanks? for now they just lay there without some fixing. just a nailhead or wood nailhead. i send you an image. maybe you like my idea. thumps up :)
What I can do is make a tiny texture of a nail, and then tile it as much as I need over single faces, and then scatter those faces where I need them to give the nails a slight relief without all the extra polys needed for real nails. Thinking maybe 32x32 for a nail?
yes i though of a texture too. ah i think i got your idea! very smart. you want to make a plane quad with 4 sides and add a tiny alpha nail texture from above and then just sick, glue it on the 3d model. right? cool, if thats not too work intensive and ravanna or the other 3D dudes like that too, it actually would be very nice, in my opinion. what do you think? is it worth the effort? to be honest, i very much wanted to make the bridges for myself but iam ocupied with an armor. iam very happy that you do them so nice. all the little details, cracks, sizes, bends and ropes n stuff is just like i wanted them. so if the nail thing is kinda shit in any way, that would be no problem if you dont do it. even now the bridges are just right.
ah on thing though, i see that you have to add hundrets of nails by hand, i guess thats a pain in the ass, if you dont have a easy way to aply them just with one click, i think its too much effort and should be done at the end when all bridges are done. i think thats just a tiny detail of perfection and we rather keep that in mind for later if theres time and passion and if its actually worth. what i can do is, i can add the pain in the ass nailheads in my spare time if everything is gameready so when its done we can do it. if not we are not risking adding the bridges too late or somthing. i thought we should keep that in mind i guess
ah one idea for adding the nails easy. i guess you have tileable texures for the wood.thats the reason you cant just add nails one time and then using the texture. but what if you spread out a few nailheads on the tileable texture like in the picture i send you? this way we dont have the nail head just on the right spot but maybe its beleveable enough? i mean, there will be nailhead all over the wood then i guess and go through as used plank from a ship or old house . as if the people didnt remove every nail. iam curios if thats working.
i have found a video creating and applying a decal in 3ds max. it is actually what i had in mind. you can also use a push modifier do get the plane slightly over the basemesh to prevent clipping http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_a-z90ndNk
Ahh Nice, that sounds pretty much want I was planning to do! :)
This! This gets me excited, one my say I've got a wood (I hope that comes across as a pun to the plank subject). Seriously Aprilmanha you are my second favorite modeler (sorry Ravanna will always have that title), not just because you stepped up to do one of the less "glamorous" tasks, but yet one of the most important. Need more heroes like you.
Apologies for not having more done for now, I got a short contract I needed to see to and think I have it all wrapped up now and can get back to the modelling soon!
Edit: just gone around adding nails to the current models. The models for nails are going on easy enough, not quite as easy as I first thought though.
Generally I am going around making planes the size of a nail all over the models by hand, then convert it to a spline that IU can then Shapemerge with a clone of the wood planks. This then gives me the nails correctly conforming to the slopes and heights of the planks automatically. I can them UVW map it to per face and save that and apply my nail texture.
My Nail texture is pretty rubbish however and I was hoping someone could make a better 64x64 diffuse, opacity and normal map for an in-bedding nail. Possibly with a specular map that will add a slight highlight around the nail that makes the wood look like it raised around the nail so it looks more real?
Just an update, I've done 2 more platforms today.
Has anyone had a look at possible better nail/ wood plug textures to replace my ones?
NAIL TEXTURE TEST 1
Edit:- and a youtube video of current progress.

Really loving the progress. Cant wait to get them in game.
Right All done except for the really long bridge, "\Data\meshes\morrowind\architecture\misc\bridges\misc_ropebridge2048_01.nif"
Will get it done tomorrow, just wanted to get the current work uploaded before I get eye strain!
The board in these walkways that looks like 3 broken pieces nailed together would instantly break if stepped on. So it looks at tad strange especially on a suspended bridge. It would be best if those were replaced with solid board. Other than that these look very good.
i would suggest to make the nailheads more dark so they blend in more with the dark wood. otherwise great work. is it easy to apply the nailheads or do you have to place them one by one by hand?
I do have to place them in the x/y by hand, but then I have a series of edits that correct their z and orientation in relation to the surface of the wood boards below them. It takes about 10-15 minutes to do nails, but changing them now is easy as I can just replace the texture files with any people supply me with and it will work right away. Just so you know though, they have been made darker already. Just a cheap photoshop by me but anyone who would like to contribute a new texture would be welcome.
Changing the 3 part boards is no easy fix, if there is overwhelming support for a change I will do it, but I'd rather not if it can be helped. I originally put them in as graphical flavor to make the walkways appear more rickety.
I understand that choice was made for a more rickety appearance but the board like tht doesn't make sense. The juryrigged boards would also only hold together with screws which likely don't exist. The way they are situated the boards would fall apart in months or less with the swaying of the bridge and weather alone.
if you google suspension bridges there are some good images that may help you in making some adjustments. I think this is important because these assets you are making here are very commonly used in morrowind so making them even better would be worth the effort IMO. My suggestion would be to try varying the width and length of the ends of the boards as well as the angle of the cuts. Also, notching some of the boards like they are scrap end pieces could increase ricket level and provide a similar look without compromising practicality.
I also agree about the color of the nail heads. Nails in morrowind would be hand forged from iron which is a labor intensive process which would make them relatively expensive. They should be darker than the wood but lighter than the above pic, maybe with lighter corners or sides on nailhead where they were struck. Vary the size and shape of the nailheads. Since they are not machined they shouldn't be uniform or perfectly round. Also there are too many nails in some boards for several reasons. Nails of that size would split the wood when placed so close together. Nails are valuable so they should be used sparingly. Using more nails than required slows repairs and construction and these walkways look roughly constructed. Two nails should be used at max per side, especially for a boardwalk that is so poorly maintained.
Last, Some of the models may be a bit too unique looking to the extent that every time the player walks across them they will remember specific misplaced boards which is one advantage of have fairly vanilla models. If possible, it'd be great to have an alternate version for some of the particularly eccentric boardwalks that are a bit more bland and less identifiable.
Ahh aparently the bridge I have not done is already finished... so job done! Yayy!
Now to find something else to make :P
Job well done then.
Aprilmanha if you want more models to do, I'd love for you to claim the docks, planks and wooden stairs.

I'm new here so hopefully someone can explain why my critique giving me stinky karma?
Sasquatch keep in mind that you are not a contributor to this project.
Ok, I'll stick my claim on the thread :)
