[WIP] Imperial Fort Interior Tileset

I was noticing the Imperial Fort Interiors haven't been modeled yet and i thought i would take a crack a the Tileset. I'll start from the list downwards starting with the 'in_impbig_4way_01.nif'.
The left screenshot is the original from the Morrowind Contruction Set
The right is my attempt at it in Autodesk Maya.

Bring the poly count up and

Bring the poly count up and give the accents and corners more detail. It still looks like it came out of an 8 bit game. If you research old English castles and Roman Forts you will see the Architecture is more personal and rounded, organic you could say with a touch of order. Building forts to them was not only out of preservation or protection. They were also a statement of their culture in a foreign land too. So some artistic style was always applied to the forts built in conquered territories. TurboSmooth or Scuplting this in Mudbox or ZBrush would help a lot to capture this feel.

Ravana or Eloth could help point you in the right direction.

Okay thanks Archie that's really helpful advice, i'm still trying to understand the polycount that's allowed for each tile.

Hey,

Hey,

I started working on this set a few days ago but I only made 1 piece... didn't realise it was being made.

Anyway, I made a few textures if you want to check them out.

Let me know and i'll put them on here

Keep at 'er, looks good. When you improve the textures, I would make the bricks in the pillars 2x - 3x smaller, and make the seams in between the bricks pop out less. A bit more green would look better as well.

Hi Dave,

Hi Dave,

Yeah i'd like to have a look at those textures, the textures in the screenshot were just there to help show the model, i wasnt looking to use them for the final product.

Here is a link to the textures (PNG). I also have normals.

If any are useful let me know and i'll upload the dds files.

Also, I see youre using Maya. I used to use it and had problems with tileset pieces snapping in the old Oblivion CS. Have you tested your pieces to be sure they snap? It may be worth trying sooner rather than later, if you haven't already, in case there are any problems.

btw I'd be happy to make some textures if you needed them for this set. just let me know. :)

Been a while since last update but been working at it. I'm building the entire tileset in the one scene just so that everything fits nice, first time I've done a Tileset but I'm enjoying the experience.

this has promise, at some

this has promise, at some point we will need to discuss clean topology, and perhaps using smoother surfaces on the curves.

We're currently discussing some skyrim imperial textures for u to use as placeholders, and so u can uv the parts u have done

The Thing is i always

The Thing is i always understood that the Imperials were the equivilant of 'our' Romans and i think that the Morrowind Forts reflected that the most. Oblivion's and Skyrim's Forts had a more 'Anglo Saxon' style of architecture to them. I think with this tileset i've been tipping more in the direction of the Roman style, although i think it would be interesting to see the result of a mixture of both the architecture styles.

dont worry about modelling

dont worry about modelling the individual bricks.

With so much to do on this project, we have to reuse what we can from skyrim in terms of textures.if we have time later we can do our own, or better, would be colour/detail alterations to existing skyrim textures.

(I know thats not a popular opinion, but we need stuff done asap)

Would you like a collage of all useful interior imperial textures so u have a good idea of what to use when UVing?
I just went through them, lots to use

Oh yeah don't worry the arch bricks are just the only thing i'd be applying the actual geometry to.

Yeah the collage would be very usefull thanks, Ravana.

If I may be so bold, I would

If I may be so bold, I would love to see some Asian influence on Imperial architecture, as the Akaviri were a major influence on their culture. To quote The Pocket Guide to the Empire (1st Edition):

Akaviri dragon-motifs are found in all quarters, from the high minaret bridges of the Imperial City to the paper hako skiffs that villagers use to wing their dead down the rivers.

This here is the final design

This here is the final design of the main 4-way halls, i tried to add slight and subtle akairi style influences to the main pillars or columns especially with the curnves on the edges.

I'm noticing quite a few

I'm noticing quite a few duplicates in the imperial tileset. They have different names although the geometry is identical, so they're might be a few less models than the original 31.

Edit: Never mind was some subtle differences.
