Submitted by smartinius on

Hey ,

here is my zbrush chest  and helmet "CONCEPT" skulpt. i just want to know, if iam on the right way for that piece of armor. it not supposed to be very detailed it s just a rough placement, material proportion, mass and silhouette concept. if my idea is proofed "good enough" iam going into detailing process.

thank you, and have a nice day

Hot damn, you only joined yesterday! No crit here. Maybe a brighter matcap for the next screenshot so we can appreciate the detail? :)

Edit: I actually made a tileable netch leather texture for an awning. Might be useful for ideas http://imgur.com/P2Ee14y

Can't wait to see how this progresses.  Looking great so far.

Loving the armor Smartinius can't wait to see it in game. Like really I'm on the edge of my seat for this. :)

That looks great. I personally prefer the armor with the pouches. For the mask, maybe try the breathing holes a little larger and less regular. As is, they make it look a little modern, like coming across as a screen. Either way this looks amazing, and I can't wait to see the rest.

This is really looking awesome! Can't wait to see how it develops :D The body armour is great, but I'd change the mask slightly. It looks great, but I feel it's a touch too modern looking. It will be most often worn by ashlanders, and their craftsmanship is very crude. This mask for some reason reminds me of Batman, as it was sewn together from very complicated, machine made pieces of leather. I'd much rather have more links and binding show on it, pieces of crude thread and in general looking a bit simpler to make, with leather that was cut with crude tools. Still, looks great so far ;)

Another thing is that it would be nice to have the cloth come down all the way from the mask, covering the neck. It's important for ash protection.

yes , your absolutly right with the quality of the material @dagomir. i decided for a clean look now because it looks halfway decent. its the point of my skill, that iam not able to archive everthing i have in mind. much is rather luck then on propose. if i can find a way to accomplish a decent worn leather look, i gonna try that too. thx for the comment. i think iam making a material study then.

What the actual jesus, that's looking pretty damn good!

Hey. If you want a good leather alpha, or a sculpting texture, I have a good one, and I'd be happy to share.

UPDATE DAY 3

todays tasks

-researching stuff / creating alphas /testing alphas

-redesign wide parts of the armor

-concepting gaunlets, chest, boots

-gathering ideas

-getting angry because iam not shure what material a should use and how i get a nice sewed, worn look without sculpting my ass of

-considering to add asymetrical disign parts

-adding everything leather related i use into the onedrive picture folder under zbrush 4r6 ...

Really nice progress and leather tests. Personally I'm a fan of the elephant look, but they're all good.

elephant or robbenleder_3 has my vote, great work!

If you bake and texture as well as you sculpt, we're gonna have a good time :)

They all look kickass but for me this one takes the cake, feels like a believable character already:[External image]

Really great work.

Amazing work Smarti! I like the helmet variants. Do we get them all?

Amazing stuff alright! I'm a sucker for having all the variants.

wow fantastic work! :o

I er, i think i better practice more zbrush! this is insanely good

wow, cool :)

About helm, i agree with plasmaster.

thank for your comments :)

i cant tell for now if the helm variants get all into the game. i dont make that decision. i just model the stuff. for my opinion, i would try to implement another helm variant. but ofcourse, its a matter of time and effort. rigging, texturing, retopologizing and so on needs time and maybe tahts a reason, why its gonne be jsut one helm model. iam working close wirh dragomir, hes direkting my design. if you can convince him to do something other, i try to make this happen... your apriciation feels very good. i thank you for that. and as i say, dragomir is giving me good advice and directing me to improv the vision and design. thx for that. cu smartinius

Aww.. Now I'm sad. Well, you could use some of those for the beast race helmets. I know it might constradict the concept art, but I would have liked to see a little more of your original mask in those. I hope you still have that stored away. Maybe we can use it for something else, like as a part of a different helmet.

hey iam back :)

here an update:

iam trying to keep everthing tight for an one piece chest retopology. i dont know where i should make the cut for the helm? helm+scarf or just the helm with mouthprotection? should the scarf beeing attached to the chest armor? also should i seperate the bags and pouches? i could melt alt least the right bag into the chest piece later when i retopologize all.

thx and see you

this just looks amazing, man those stiches :)

The level of detail on this is ridiculious...in a good way

Stunning work, looks almost ready for a colour-up imo

That looks amazing. I would say try the scarf as part of the body rather than the helmet.

Go with the body. Great work

the amount of details is insane... outstanding job don't even know what to say

Amazing!

ok cool, thx for your feedback. it helps alot giving me a feeling that iam on the right way. do you know the feeling,"you can do it even better?" man, iam constantly thinking that. but instead spending too mcuh time on this model, i should give me another few years to improve my modeling instead.man i cant await seeing the dude in color and then in the game. totally awesome.

if anyone sees problems, technical or other, that could be a problem later when we want to make the model working in the game, just tell me. im kinda unexperinced what belongs to that kind of stuff.

so thx an see you around :)

As a group we are brutal when it comes to getting things right, and normally not everyone can be pleased, but this is just impossible to fault concept and execution wise.

The devil is going to be in how much detail will be in the final bake and topology, but looking forward to it. Remember to bounce off Ravanna for those final stages as he knows what it takes to make an armor game ready.

Hey , today i want to show you my latest update of the netch leather armor. the concept was done over a week ago but i worked on painting materials in bright colores for later texturing and made a new topolgy. iam always updating my workflow and had some trouble with motivation and technical issues that cost time, thats why the progress is a little slower then estimated but iam stil working on it. the picture i made is very experimental and heavyly work in prgress so the quality will rise. the reason iam posting it anyway is, that i worked 20 hours this weekend getting things done and iam kinda proud because i did it without help mostly. showing it is my reward and the last thing i do for this weekend. next week i will go on. thx for watching and i hope you like it. iam exited as hell, that will be my first real game rdy character i ever made. bye, smartinius

Keep that color scheme. :P

In all seriousness, though, it's looking great!

That topology is spot on. Perfect. The cool thing about working in a group like this is that we all know how much more goes into getting something game ready. The sculpt is just the beginning ;-)

So your patience is well appreciated.

Awesome job, but I'd expect nothing less from you. I'm very excited to see the polypaint. Keep up the amazing work. Oh. And thanks for making me jealous of your jaw-dropping-make-me-want-to-smack-my-mama talent :)

Still jumping on my toes in anticipation :)

And here she is!
All ready for ingame.
Alexb should have her in tonight or tomorrow.

Alex i didnt do the internal hand models.

That... looks incredible. I love the texture work you guys did here, Morrowind's netch leather (the material) just looked like real-world leather, while this could be something from another planet.

Off topic, but are you guys planning on using Dragonborn's chitin armor in any capacity? I know you guys already have a couple sets you've made, but Bethesda's chitin gives me the same post-apocalyptic wasteland vibe that this does (in a good way) and they'd look totally rad together.

Using the purple tentacle flesh as straps, is just a plain outright yes. Now I'm wondering, what would the leather on the boiled variant look like? (What would netch leather in this fashion look like boiled?)

I think Black and shiny, and rigid. You could boil it in tar or something, who knows....

You're probably not far off with that.

awesome :)

The boiled variant will be more suited for Ascadian Isles netch herders, and won't have as much ash protecting stuff. It's boiled in Kwama wax. Here's a little sketch I made:

As for the ashlander Netch model...
