[MOD] Nerevarine Armor

I felt that my character needed some unique armor to wear after being recognized as the Nerevarine, so I created a custom piece from the various armors found in themythofanst's wonderful Vvardenfell Imports mod and the addon mod as well. These mods are REQUIRED for a very few untouched textures (the belt daggers and pouches).

Here is the male version:

The female version:

An outdoors lighting shot:

The mesh is based on the Indoril armor set (since this is the Great House Nerevar belonged to... and because it's my favorite armor ;) ) and some of the elements of the Bonemold Champion armor from Vvardenfell Imports.

The pauldrons have the image of Nerevar upon them instead of the Tribunal emblem. The hanging cards at the sides feature 'Azura' in Daedric letters.

The chest bears three badges, one for each of the Great Houses the Nerevarine is Hortator of:

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r312/AsteriaSennall/Proje...

The helmet bears Azura's moon and star as well as some tribal markings. I chose a combination of gold and silver tones because the silver matches some elements of the armor and resembles a hood, whereas the face and ears are gold hue to reflect the Chimer origins of Nerevar. It also contrasts nicely, in my opinion :)

INSTALLATION
Copy all files in the Data directory of the zip file into the Oblivion game directory. Overwrite when it asks you to, nothing you already have will be replaced.

Activate the mod in your load order. It only needs to be loaded after Morrowind_ob - Conversation.esp

NEW IN VERSION 4.0: The armor is finally available IG with the included mod! SPOILER: The mod changes Vivec’s dialog to award the player this set of armor along with Wraithguard. The script auto detects your armor proficiency and gives you either the heavy or light version based on your current highest skill.

Light armor version stats are around those of Oblivion elven armor.
Heavy armor version stats are around those of Oblivion ebony armor.
The gold value of the armor is equal to the value of High Indoril armor.

NEW IN VERSION 3.0: I realized that the Nerevarine needs to wear the Wraithguard guantlet in part of the Main Quest, so I've separated the gauntlets. There's a wearable set of matching Nerevarine gauntlets to wear when not wearing Wraithguard.

MANY THANKS to themythofanst and the modders he borrowed his textures and armor from (I believe Cryo was the original Ordinator Armor author) for making this possible!

MANY THANKS also to Dave B for helping troubleshoot the issues with Version 1.0 and for suggesting the better color combinations that I've used for Version 3.0!

MANY THANKS to Thermador of Morroblivion.com for his suggestions on how to add the armor IG!!

IMPORTANT: I'm sharing the meshes and textures as a resource because I ran into a huge issue that I'm unable to resolve at this time. I added the armor into my game last night and launched the game three times to test out the in-game look in different lighting. Then I went to bed. This morning I woke up and tried launching the same saves and now every time my game crashes when I try to wear the armor. I've tried restarting and loading the game five different times and it's crashed every single time.

I have no idea why and am hoping someone more experienced will be able to take a look at the files, test it out and see what could be causing this. It's a shame for all the work I've put into it to go to waste, so hopefully someone can give me some tips to fix this. :'(

If I can resolve this issue then I plan to create a mod that will add the armor to the game in a lore-friendly manner. I was thinking to script it so that the player receives it as a boon from Azura after becoming the Nerevarine and Hortator.

Behavior Confirmed
I can confirm the behavior that initially wearing the armor is fine. However, attempting to load a save game with the player wearing the armor causes a crash every time. I have never seen anything like this, so all I have are guesses. Review all the BIP mapping to make sure you have not inadvertantly deleted a bone map, although if this WAS the problem, I would expect it to also crash the initial attempt to wear it. The only thing I can think of doing is taking an existing piece of armor that you know works, delete everything except the bones, and then re-copy your armor onto it (one piece at a time if necessary to isolate the bad apple). But, first I guess would be to determine whether it is the armor or the helmet that causes problems. I also noticed that the Loincloth (126) does not look the same in game as it does in Nifscope. In game, the texture is horribly distorted (to the point that it would look much better just being a solid blue). I use the "Almalexia Armor" from Vvardenfell Imports as my own Neravarine Armor (given to the player by Azura by way of the first ghost), and would like to use your version as what the Temple would award after the Reconciliation, or, after becoming Patriarch of the Temple. Please don't forget to do a female version of this armor.

Thanks for testing it out so

Thanks for testing it out so fast and for the helpful ideas! I appreciate it!

I believe the helmet is working perfectly fine. All I did with it was retexture, no copy and pasting branches. So anyone who wants a pretty helmet that won't really match anything can go for it, no worries! :P

I will try to redo the armor from just the skeleton of another piece. Or maybe try using Coronerra's Maximum Compatibility Skeleton. If my understanding is correct, running Remove Bogus Nodes in NifSkope should get rid of the unnecessary bones.

Yes, you're right about the loincloth. I'll switch it to plain instead. Good suggestion!

I will work on the female version next. Ironically, I began designing this specifically for my female character! :)

Thanks again!

Best regards,

Jessica

Remove Bogus Nodes
Be careful not to remove bogus nodes too soon. This will delete all the bones not currently mapped to anything, so for instance, if you have copied in the boots but not the gauntlets, and then remove bogus nodes, you will be unable to import the gauntlets without recreating all the missing hand & arm bones. Wait until you have all the pieces copied over to remove. This is something I always do when customizing armor, but is not strictly necessary. Extra bones in a mesh do not cause any problems. I find the maximum compatibility skeleton to be totally annoying to work with. There are so many junk bones included that it is totally distracting.

lol, yeah. I gave up on the

lol, yeah. I gave up on the maximum compatibility skeleton right quick! :-| Just opened another full-body suit and removed all the pieces like you suggested.

I've been importing the parts into this new one piece-by-piece, testing in-game, saving/reloading and so far it seems like it's working!! I can equip/remove the armor freely without crashes, test it in 1st person, save the game and reload with the armor on and it's good so far. The only things I've left to try importing and testing in-game are the chest jewelry pieces. Wonder if they're the culprit.

Thanks for the suggestion on bones! I'll leave them alone until I'm sure everything else is fine.

Really appreciate your help! If you would rather use this armor for your character as his/her Temple Patriarch armor I'll gladly make an alternate version without the Azura and Nerevar references in the textures and re-add the Tribunal icons. I was also considering making a version with gold tone armor instead of the light purple/silvery tone.

Best regards,

Jessica

Azura
Without the Azura/Neravar customizations, then this armor would just be a different color Ordinator. I do like the references to Azura, and although I love Azura, I'm not wild about blue or purple armor, so I would definitely like to see an alternate gold/red version. Part of what the Neravarine does is unite the Houses, so although the armor is already a little crowded as it is, if you could fit some tassle from each of the houses somewehre that would be cool.

Ooo! Good idea! I'll start

Ooo! Good idea! I'll start thinking of ways to include the Great Houses (maybe also Ashlanders?) in the next update. One idea that crossed my mind was to bring back the three chest items (the little Nerevar icons that the previous version had) and replace the Nerevar icons with the symbols of each of the Great Houses.

So I found out what the issue with the crashing was: the stupid blue gem on the chest! Every time I try to add it the armor will then crash upon playing with it. It was ugly, anyway, so I've just left it out along with the 3 amulet-things. They're fine, but the seemed odd without something in the middle...

Anyway, released version 2 and updated the first post.

I like the red/gold idea MUCH better! To me it looks a LOT better, so thank you for that suggestion!!

Any other suggestions? I'm thinking the face on the helmet might be a little too yellow. Maybe make it match the armor better? A more curvy female version is also coming in the next update! I just wanted to get the color change out there for suggestions before I start making a second version of the armor. Good thing my Dunmer woman has a Robert's Female Body Replacer bust or it might have been an uncomfortable fit! :P

Best regards,

Jessica

Version 3.0 Up!

After a week I've finally been able to finish this up.

The female version was a little tricky. Had to figure out how to do transparent textures because the pauldrons in the female version are actually just part of the full male chest. The texture alpha needed to be made transparent for everything below the shoulders. Took some research to figure out that's what was going on and how to do it!

I love the idea of the Great House symbols on the badges, thanks for inspiring the idea, Dave B! :)

I also realized that wearing Wraithguard would be important so I separated the gauntlets! Kinda silly I didn't realize it sooner! D'oh!

The gold/red color scheme goes MUCH better with Wraithguard than the original purple/blue version would have! Good call on that one too, Dave!! Woulda made the Nerevarine look rather dorky without your suggestion!

Now to find a way to add it to the game... I have a mod with a Testing Hall chest that I just dump all of my custom stuff to and go get it when I want it cuz I'm lazy, but I imagine people might like a fun way to get this into their game.

Still thinking it might be nice of Vivec to give it to the Nerevarine. That way you get Wraithguard & some fancy armor as a gift from him.

Best regards,

Jessica

Yeah, seriously!  You could

Yeah, seriously!  You could add it to the result script for that quest.  I think the main quest is under "fbmwMQ" series of quests.  Then just find the appropriate quest, then the stage of that quest where you would get the armor, and add a "player.additem MyArmorREF 1" to the result script.

Version 4.0 Up!

Thanks, Thermador!

I've uploaded a new version with a mod to give the armor during the Main Quest. I guess it fits the spirit of the game well enough. I just made some changes to the Vivec dialog and have it run a script to check for the player's highest armor skill and give the appropriate version of the armor along with Wraithguard.

Stats for the armor are:

Light Armor
Weight: 24.7
Health: 2178
Armor: 22
Value: 6150

Light Helmet
Weight: 2.6
Health: 445
Armor: 4.5
Value: 1350

Light Gauntlets
Weight: 2.6
Health: 445
Armor: 4.5
Value: 1350

Heavy Armor
Weight: 90.75
Health: 4317
Armor: 33
Value: 6150

 Heavy Helmet
Weight: 10.5
Health: 960
Armor: 6.5
Value: 1350

Heavy Gauntlets
Weight: 10
Health: 960
Armor: 6.5
Value: 1350

Thanks to both of you for your much appreciated advise, ideas and support!

If anyone one has a request or suggestion, feel free to post it.

Best regards,

Jessica
