Okay, judging by the fact that nobody's posted here for a while, it's time for our Spring Cleaning of the signup sheet. I'm going to do this similarly to how we did things the first time; it seemed to work well.
The following writers are in danger of getting kicked off the signup sheet if they do not leave a message within the next day saying they're still working on the writing:
Those of you in this list, you've signed up to write stuff and I've heard next to nothing from you as of late. If you're not working on the cells you've signed up for or are not planning to, please let me know promptly so that your name doesn't clog up the signup sheet.
Thanks!
(Oh, and the lines look great, Twenty. I went ahead and marked them complete, sorry for not saying so earlier.)
LInes are being worked on, slowly. I'm sort of just doing some research right now to see the possibilities. Not much more to do now, I've just had other things going on too, I should have lines for you either Tuesday or Thursday ;)
Okay, having not heard anything from everyone else, I've cleaned up the signup sheet a bit. If you've been waiting for an opportunity to claim a cell, now's your chance!
We've only got a few spots left, and of course I'd like to expedite this process as much as possible, so please only claim one of the remaining cells if you feel you can complete it in a timely manner.
Jeez, I've been waiting for more people to submit stuff so that I could do a bulk review, but I guess that's not happening.
Wow, you wrote a lot, Laertes! I really like the lines, too; I think they capture that boisterous Nordic spirit, even when facing more somber subjects. I think you've hit a good balance, here, and I'm happy to pass that through inspection without any complaint.
As for the rest of you guys who still need to submit stuff: you know who you are. The sooner we get this stuff done, the sooner we can move on to final editing. Those of you who have done all your tasks to a satisfactory degree, I strongly encourage you to pick up just one more free spot to help move this project along!
Here is my submission for the high chapel! The signup sheet said the banter was Incomplete but up for grabs, does that mean someone else wrote some banter? Because it there was, I couldn't find it. Anyway, I tried to keep the dialogue to the bare minimum and only used quotes in dunmeri.
Looks good, Entreri! I think you've got just the right amount of dialogue in there, just enough to make the side characters alive, but not so much that they overpower the impressive silence that the player is supposed to feel.
As for finishing an incomplete submission, you're totally right! I looked back through the submissions, and I guess Asticol must have marked "in progress" for something he never actually submitted. So you don't need to worry about that.
Not to sound as if I'm making excuses (as I could have had these finished if I tried a lot harder), but between things coming up IRL and my computer acting up I've pretty much slowed to a halt as far as progress goes on these. I apologize for this, and am relinquishing my hold on Graring's House.
I've got a lot of time and effort put into figuring out how the residents of Raven Rock would communicate with one another and hopefully I can get around to it this week. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience. Hopefully you'll find the end product at least somewhat worth the wait.
Something worth noting is the people around Grarings House such as the assassin girl, the scorned woman, the cheating husband & girlfriend, and the three witches. They may or may not all warrant additional lines, but the three witches were important enough to show up in Skyrim, they're interesting too.
EDIT - Oh, and another thing of note is how a couple people at Grarings house already have some "Idle Banter", about food, lol. I don't have it written down because I had planned to come back and do that later, but perhaps Idle Banter written for them could draw from that, or be something different entirely to show a better spectrum of character from these people.
Idle banter for another temple area. I also have noticed that no-one seems to be willing to write banter for the skaal village (me included), as it is a huge undertaking. We either need someone to step up and write it all, or we could try to divide the various characters between various writers. Sure, it won't be as coherent, but at least it would soften the blow for the writers. Just a suggestion though.
I'm planning to claim Skaal Village if it's still open once I finish the Great Bazaar (I don't usually take that many claims at a time to avoid holding things up). The town only has 11 npcs. For comparison, the Great Bazaar has 23.
Okay, so most of my research on Raven Rock is complete (95%), and I've realized that it will require quite an overhall for the Skywind conversion.
Raven Rock is quite possibly THE MOST unique town in the entirety of TES III - Morrowind. Why? Because you as the player are essentially responsible for building the town from ground up. You help turn an empty field into a walled and well defended town. You are responsible for brining a good portion of the town's population to come and live there. You make economic choices (Smith or Trader), and even have your own house build there once you progress far enough. Depending on your progress and which path you chose within the East Empire Company questline will depend on what all is available to you in the town and who is where.
If you're using THIS LIST as your reference, then the actual town and your idea of it will not match up very well. It gets even more complicated when you take into account that the list provided doesn't even give you everyone in the town, nor does it make a distinction between people that actually live there and people that show up for a single quest.
Part of the reason it has taken me so long to do this is because I haven't devoted much time to it, but another part is because I had to play through the East Empire Company questline in game and both paths, along with a few extras in order to obtain all the data needed to actually understand who is where and when.
I'm making a list of who is where, who does what, and the possible changes that may occur. I'm also preparing to write for the denezins of this town. I'm planning on using the entire town (various houses, outside, etc) for the idle banter, but here's the deal with the other sections. The bar as it is will be fine, it will just be another part of more Idle Banter that happens in there. The mine is EXTREMELY small (not sure how far twentyenginerunner is on it, but...) of those on that list, only three people are actually in the mine normally. Of those three people, zero to one of them are there in the end depending on your path, so unless you're also writing for Bandits that will attack you on sight, there isn't much to it.
Long story short, Raven Rock is extremely complex and simply saying "Oh this person does this, or this person does that" (with the exception of limited few) would be impossible. I do however have stuff for idle banter planned, and I will be making a topic dedicated to the organization of Raven Rock in Skywind. I realize that we (the community) are not that far into the Skywind project, but it needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.
Regardless, Raven Rock Idle Banter in progress, coming soon!
Twenty and Laertes, these lines are great. Just one word of caution: Generally with these lines, we don't want to have too many more than 20 unique conversations/lines happening in any given cell. The writing you've done is great, Twenty, but I'd recommend you cut out some parts of it, as it gets rather difficult for the CK-ers to implement so many unique dialogues. I know that it can be kind of hard to gut lines for a cell that has so many people, but a good place to start would be removing solo lines and just sticking to the conversations, which are cooler anyway. If you could get that cell cut down to about 20-25 unique lines (we're talking about the first number in the ID here), that would be great.
First I've heard of this, either now or in the main project last year (misc Balmora had far more lines than this). The Great Bazaar file actually includes seven different cells (the bookseller and magic shop were separate entries on the claims sheet). I lumped them all under "Great Bazaar" for convenience.
I deleted a number of solo lines from the biggest single cell (outside) so it now has 23 unique exchanges/statements. The other six cells have 26 among them. If its an issue of easily being able to assign implementations based on filepath names, they could be grouped under "IBMournholdGreatBazaarMagicShop," "IBMournholdGreatBazaarBookseller," and "IBMournholdGreatBazaarMiscShops."
Thanks, Twenty. I appreciate the flexibility. Honestly, I wasn't even really aware of this until recently, when I had to go through all the old banter lines and cut stuff out myself. Balmora was no exception there, I'm afraid. If I had known that it would be a problem, I would have cautioned against solo lines at all.
Solo lines were kind of a strange idea to begin with, except for the characters who don't leave their cells (which won't be the case in Skywind). They're more difficult to write than conversations, since most people aren't going to talk to themselves like that. I recall that most people didn't do them at the beginning of the first idle banter project, but then someone started and everyone else followed along.
There were characters out kind of 'on their own' who needed a few solo lines to just not be so super bland. Characters who just have a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, or absent wizards just sort of talking to themselves about the task at hand (mixing alchemy ingredients or thinking about a spell or whatever) really needed the solo lines to flesh them out. Guys in the middle of town, maybe not so much.
No worries, Bobert, your claim is secure! As for everyone else, let's get a move on! The sooner we finish these last few cells, the sooner we can move on to editing and ultimately new projects!
Since I've had to devote most of my Skywind time to another part of the project recently, I am cancelling my claim on Skaal Village to avoid causing any delay here. So, if anyone is up to writing what is arguably the most plot-important location in Bloodmoon, have at it.
These are the names on the signup sheet that still don't have any form of dialogue submission attached to them. What I need from each of you is a confirmation that you are indeed still alive and that you plan on finishing the dialogue for your assigned cell in a timely manner (as in, within a few days!). If I do not receive a response within a day or two, or you respond saying that you are unable to complete your dialogue in the allotted time, your name will be removed from the signup sheet so that someone else can claim it. We need to finish this project up, people!
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you, but it's important to have these checkups once in a while so that we don't have our signup sheet clogged with people who aren't up to the task.
Well, seeing as NOBODY has replied and I'm eager to move this project along, all these names are being cleared from the signup sheet. If one of these names was yours and you still want to participate, feel free to signup again. Everyone else, please check the sheet, as many spots have now been re-opened to the public!
Hey Justafan, quick question: when it comes to the Miscellaneous category for any given location, does that mean our lines can be heard anywhere at any time in the greater whole location?
Sorry, I've been out of town for the past week. I meant to say something beforehand, but I just had too much stuff going on.
I'm going to have to pull out from this particular project. As much as I would like to do it, it's just not something that I'll likely get around to finishing. At this stage I'm just holding it back, and while I love to write, I'm having issues with doing this for some weird reason. If we have a different sort of writing related project, I'd love to work on that, but I won't be able to finish the Idle Banter section.
... if anyone wants to do the Raven Rock group, please look at my other topic dedicated to Raven Rock and how it could work in Skywind. Keep in mind what stages everyone goes through and keep in mind the different sorts of schedules everyone might follow. The bar will likely be the main attraction for the residents so visit, so I'd expect to see stuff there.
Kept solo lines for outside NPCs to a minimum, because they’re a nightmare to come up with and it sounds like we don’t really need them. Say the word and I’ll cook up some more, though.
Also, lines from Graring’s house start at 5_1 since Brynjolfr from Thirsk technically shares a space with them (Felsaad Coast).
Hey guys! Apologies as usual for my absence. Thank you Laertes and Entreri for your continued work and support despite my complete and utter lack of feedback. I looked through all of them and I'm happy with what I've seen, so I'm happy to pass these through quality check. That just leaves a couple more spots, both claimed by Aesop. In regards to the question you asked forever ago, Aesop, generally the miscellaneous lines are ones that will be spoken outside the buildings of whatever town you're in. It's basically outdoor conversations for the NPCs that wander around out there, as well as the the NPCs that live alone and will presumably come out during the day. But you can generally assume that none of these conversations will be happening anywhere other than outside.
Once these two locations are finished, this part of the project is done, and we can move on to other projects. I'm so excited!
Aesop, about the banter: I think you've done an excellent job breathing life into Morrowind's NPCs, and the lines are very good! They are well written and the exchanges seem very well thought out and natural. Excellent job, truly remarkable considering the huge amount of lines you had to write. I'm not exactly sure if NPC lines are allowed to address the character personally, but I think you are definitely on the right track.
As Entreri said, idle banter should never be spoken in regards to the player, as it can happen when the player is not particularly near. I realize that this means asking you to do a bit of gutting here and there, but that might actually be a good thing, because as it stands right now, there are too many distinct "conversations" you've included. Right now, you're at 54, and we want a number closer to half that amount, if possible. It's just a little too much work for the people implementing this dialogue. A good way to cut back on these is to remove solo (muttered) lines. The interactions between NPCs are really the more important thing here, and they should constitute the meat of what we're implementing. (Solo lines are a weird concept anyway, when you think about it...)
Sorry to make you do this, as I know it's a real bummer, but I figure it's better that you get to be the decider of what lines stay and what lines go, rather than myself further along in the process. You're the author, after all! :)
And a huge thanks to everyone who contributed their writing to this project! We couldn't have even begun such ambitious new content were it not for all the people who have taken the time to volunteer their amazing writing ability!
Keep an eye out for new writing projects, because they're sure to come up soon!
Working on the dialog now. Twas far too drunk Friday night to be of any use. I was at a party on Saturday and performed no better.
Okay, judging by the fact that nobody's posted here for a while, it's time for our Spring Cleaning of the signup sheet. I'm going to do this similarly to how we did things the first time; it seemed to work well.

Jeez, I've been waiting for more people to submit stuff so that I could do a bulk review, but I guess that's not happening.

Hey Snilloc, no worries! I'm glad to see you're putting so much effort into this! Take as long as you need to make some truly good dialogue.
I'm looking forward to seeing your writing!
Snilloc, take the mine if you want. Seems like it would be simpler that way.
Alrighty, here's Temple Courtyard misc
