Why thalmor are gonna win

So I was thinking... is there any chance the Thalmor are gonna lose. I mean really? Right now no nation in Tamriel has enough power to stop them, sure they may slow there conquest of Tamriel but I no one can actually invade the dominion and fight them on there home turf.

The thalmor have put to much work in to breaking Skyrim from the empire. Even if ulfric dies would that be enough, I think the thalmor would make sure some one just like him becomes king. Ulfric really isn't as bad or as good as people say he's willing to fight to the last man for his cause but he only seems to care about the nord way of life. Maybe he's what's best for Skyrim but not for Tamriel. The thalmor have even said they want him to win the war.

And if there's a war between the thalmor and the empire there's no way they can win. It's to hard to get troops from Highrock to Cyrodiil (they would have to travel by sea and the thalmor would just blow up all their ships). Not only that, at this point Cyrodiil has to be conquer but the dominion that way the war in Skyrim wouldn't matter in the next game. They could explain it like this: after a nameless assassin killed the emperor, Cyrodiil was without good leadership and with the war weakening them so much when the thalmor attacked the empire couldn't defend themselves.

And i don't think the other nations of tamriel stand a chance either. As long as the thalmor appear as a threat to one nation at a time, the people of tamriel with not be compelled to unify.

Skyrim:

doesn't hate the redguards but would not trust them. especially if they had to allow them access to their province

views the empire as betraying the very person who founded them

especially doesn't trust the brentons(while the nords are off fight on the Cyrodiil border, the brenton would be coming from the reach thus the nords would think "hey how do we know they won't try to conquer the reach again.

Hammerfell:

Views the empire as people who sold them out to the dominion

has been warring with highrock over control of the Illiac bay for 100's of years.

Cyrodiil

views skyrim as fool because they say they fight for talos but all they're doing is destroying the empire he spent his whole life building

Has no hate toward any other nation.

Highrock:

Has been warring with hammerfell for 100's of years

has no hate for anyone else

but to make it all worse all the thalmor have to do is remove the zero stone from the adamantine tower and then they could cause human to disappear for good and undo the mortal creation. (according to Michael Kirkbride and the elder scrolls wiki)

edit: forgot to ask: what do you guy think. does anyone really stand a chance against the thalmor and why.

Nope! they are really hard to beat at most times, but an army of them would just be impossible [without cheating].

And with the zero stone they just can`t lose imo.

CHIM! I'm not really sure how it works but it might... never mind. I think the next elder scrolls game will be placed in the aldmeri dominion and will place you as the umm... "chosen of the divines" and you'll an ability that makes you... better... I guess. anyway you'll have to stop the thalmor or something. and they'll have some powerful... super-magic that add random boss fight (Like dragon fighting in Skyrim and oblivion gates in well Oblivion) idk maybe they'll do a novel to handle the thalmor. but I don't think they should do a dlc. The story of a battle with the thalmor has had a lot of lead up and I think they should do a full game 200 hour game rather then a 5-10 hour dlc.

I have a feeling in the next TES game, we'll hear of an event where the legenedary dragonborn (the character you play as in Skyrim) has somehow weakened the Thalmor, and now they are in a much less favourable state.

I also think that the next game will be in Elsweyr, and things will be very much controlled by the Thalmor, with small groups of imperial spies.

if the thalmor where so strong the wouldnt do peace  peace maens the didnt have the army to win so nowe the weaken the empire from the inside the are smart but a good redgaurdt army and nordt army to suport the empirials would do it the are just mising a good leader  like lets say a dragonborn hero

I love threads like this :)

You have to remember though, the player character has to go up against all odds to win.  What a perfect setup for TESVI.......

@No1: Actually the aldmeri dominion continued to fight the ten year after the end of the great war. Most people think that the empire and the thalmor made the white gold concordant after they realized that the they both had lost too much, but actually the empire refused to sign the original thalmor ultimatum which lead to the great war. After most of the imperial legion war destroyed along with the Imperial city Tidus Mede signed the white gold concordant, with the reason being that, although, the empire defeated most of the thalmor's army in cyrodiil they still had a massive army in alinor (summerset isle). also the empire is hated almost all much as the thalmor themselves, because of the empires signing of concordant thousand of redguards died in there war with the thalmor. The nords overall hate the imperials and don't care at all if they get wiped out by the thalmor. The unfortunate truth is that all the nation hate each other and won't ally to defeat the thalmor. The thalmor has divided them now all they have left to do is conquer. Not only that a lot of people think the thalmor force there provinces to join them but actually all the provinces of the aldmeri dominion joined willingly. I doubt that in a war the dominion would lose. My guess is that but the next game the empire will no longer be in play and the thalmor will at least defeat them. That way the resolution of the skyrim civil war will also be nullified and both ending CAN be canon and still not required an dragon breaks or CHIM.

I'm curious as to what the official lore will be concerning the civil war in Skyrim.  Did the Stormcloaks win or did the Empire win?  Either way, the Empire will be in a worse off position as a result of this conflict and less prepared to oppose the Thalmor.  I hope there is at least a DLC addressing this, because I want to fight against the haughty and snobbish Thalmor very much.

i heard rumors one of the dlc addresses this, personally i hate the thalmor, heroes of tes have been up against some pretty impossible odds before i think we can take em out

@foullows: That's the issue; there isn't any official lore concerning it and there most likely won't. It time like this bethesda goes and uses dragon breaks but there are far to many issues with dragon breaks, so imo they're only option it to destroy the empire by the next game then it wouldn't matter who wins the civil war because no matter what happens the empire still loses control of it's provinces weather or not skyrim remains loyal. The question become what will imperials be called in the next game Cyrodiils(as in the second era) Cyro-nords(as in the first era) Cyrodilics(never called this before). of course the elves would just call them "the ones lower then us" as they would do with all human races.

I don't think the next game would be on alinor (the summerset isles) because of the human genocide and the fact the human traders are only allowed in the ports of the cities. Not many people acknowledge this fact but when the thalmor left the empire they killed all humans on the summerset isles. yet another reason why they appear as the bad guys.

I think the odd are stacked overwhelmingly high against the hero of the next game. I mean sure we can close a couple of gate around cyrodiil and slew some dragon around skyrim but I don't think we can really take on the thalmor who have proved more then once that they are the most powerful nation of tamriel and no one is capable of stopping them ,maybe slowing them down, but not stopping them. Unless the divines intervene, the thalmor will some erase humans....(I can make it sound more epic then that) The thalmor will soon vanquish humans from existence.

bah underground resistance/alliance of the other races (thalmor threat supercedes past differences, for now) and ya maybe a little divine intervention, plus a good hero/leader and good plan with a little luck and those yellow elves are screwed, the oppressed will always find a way to revolt and and start an uprising, and they fight with no fear they have nothing left to lose

@stijmunkey: I highly doubt that the thalmor are gonna make the threat they pose known. The other nations are more likely to ally if they know the thalmor wish to vanquish them from this reality. Thus the nation of tamriel will continue to hate each other until they cease to exist. Also, the thalmor have constantly murdered the best leader of tamriel look at what happened to, Ocato his death sparked a civil war in cyrodiil. The divine most likely to help the humans in this matter ,Talos, is also being weakened by the thalmor. The aedra are shaped by belief if all or most humans stop worshiping him then talos' power on nirn will be weakened (until he too, ceases to exist). And with the thalmor you always have something to lose.

I'm just afraid that without the empire it'll be like the septims never existed. I mean they all died out but at least the empire they created still lived on. Well apparently not for long.....

Good points, but i still have faith

Well look at World War II they though Hitler and Germany were unstoppable but looked what happened to him. If the Thalmor wanted to eliminate all humans they would have. They don't want to destroy just impose their will one others. If they wanted to destroy humans why did they accept the white gold concordat and not just bring their Armies in to destroy the humans? Granted they are sitting on the big red button and kind of holding the humans hostage. The thalmor may have convinced their people to follow them but their not going to convince the humans to submit if their committing genocide or enslaving humans. Tyranny does not work because eventually somebody says no. I guess they are kind of going the Ghenghis Khan approach and capturing a province and than convincing the indigenous people to submit by promising religious freedom.(with the exception being talos worship.) The thalmor are not all powerful and as seen by what happened with the Ayelids even extremely powerful races can be defeated by humans.

Sorry for the wall of text.

They're the bad guys and they will lose. The bad guys you actually fight in the games always lose in TES unless they're a joinable faction (like Dark Brotherhood, Vampires or Morag Tong).

House Hlaalu was a joinable faction and now they're gone.

House hlaalu still exists in skyrim (windhelm).

Where do you guys think the next games are going to take place.  Bethesda is running out of single province areas to do. They have used morrowind, high rock, cyrodil, and skyrim.  You still got hammerfell as a large province and summerset. the rest are rather small. For smaller privnces I hope they stack up. It would allow for a unique cultural clash, and geographical change. (black marsh and sothern morrowind, elsewere and valenwood.

It would be hard for them to go back to other provences though as the borrows you explore would need a reason to reset.  morrowind is a option since vardefell is wasted and could be re configured plus the mainland was mostly unused.

I am still holding out hope that another dlc will come up that will expand on the empire predicament.  If they do get destroyed the empire will most likley be imperial remnats or something to join.

there is a theory that, the developers took influence from the nazi party whilst creating the thalmor.

also i believe that it all lies in the what was once known as the daggerfall covenant,

There is one way to defeat them......use the CK,I have decided to try to do a mod that starts after the Stormcloaks/Imperial war with a story line to address the problem.

But have not got a clue how to make it beleaveable yet.

@TheGreatGameCreator: The thalmor do want to destroy all humans. This fact is proven 1: by Michael Kirkbride(seen below), 2: by the fact that they purged all humans from the summerset isle.

Micheal Kirkbride

To kill Man is to reach Heaven, from where we came before the Doom Drum's iniquity. When we accomplish this, we can escape the mockery and long shame of the Material Prison.

To achieve this goal, we must:

1) Erase the Upstart Talos from the mythic. His presence fortifies the Wheel of the Convention, and binds our souls to this plane.

2) Remove Man not just from the world, but from the Pattern of Possibility, so that the very idea of them can be forgotten and thereby never again repeated.

3) With Talos and the Sons of Talos removed, the Dragon will become ours to unbind. The world of mortals will be over. The Dragon will uncoil his hold on the stagnancy of linear time and move as Free Serpent again, moving through the Aether without measure or burden, spilling time along the innumerable roads we once travelled. And with that we will regain the mantle of the imperishable spirit.

So, yeah... there the bad guys here.

Also aldmeri dominion =/= thalmor. The thalmor are the ruling faction not an army or the citizens. They still need the people to like them. Remember, the thalmor came to power in alinor (and valenwood and elswyre) because the people wanted them to lead. Simply put, they still need the the support of the people. This is most then likely why the white gold concordant was made.

They needed a reason to attack the empire( with out one they lose the support of the people) They make a concordant the empire can't sign. After a war, the empire signs it(if they continue to fight they lose support of the people). Now the thalmor have to make the empire break the concordant, to justify another war in the eyes of the people.

@GrendumDrup: They won once, they can do it again. But really all the nations are separate and they can defeat the aldmeri dominion alone( but they hate each other just as much as the thalmor, so they won't team up to defeat the thalmor).

House hlaalu is no longer a great house but is still does exist (though in "dragonborn" they are kinda seen in a negative light imo)

@protector crimson: I think the next game will be in the aldmeri dominion. if it is in black marsh, it'll probably be preparation for another game in the aldmeri dominion. btw parts of both highrock and hammerfell are in "daggerfall"

@ironman12345: yep, that's the only way, I was making a whole thing about the thalmor vs the empire in my Cyrodiil 4E mod but it was more about the empire trying to stop a war while thalmor try to justify one. I also put the other nations of tamriel in, so the player can choose which nation they want to join. I never wrote an ending so it's really open for: either the empire stops the war on the horizon or the thalmor start the war (which would lead into a 2nd great war quest). I've been working on the story for a while now so ,imo, it's pretty good. I can pm you it, if you want.
