Dear Gophervids Subscribers,
Welcome to Skywind! Thanks to Gophers little video of recommendation we have had a fantastic response :)
If you are wanting to help then please read the following for information on what type of tasks you might be best suited for. Hopefully you will find one that you want to do.
There is a small team of people who work on this website literally 24/7 (as a team, no individual has done that yet, close, but not yet). There are no team leaders as such, just people with knowledge around certain subjects, so there is no strict organizing or micro managing of things.
The tasks change on a weekly basis which is why it is difficult to assign people to jobs who are not listening in to daily conversation. To fully grasp what needs to be done and what has been done, you need to be proactive in seeking information and asking questions. But we will try and keep the forums updated as best we can.
The first important rule; is that if you truly want to help, that you carry through with your task. About 70% of people stating that they want to help invariable leave without trace. This in fact hinders the project. This makes it hard to organize or collate things, and just means that the people who stick with the project end up taking the work on, starting from scratch usually because the person has not communicated what they have done.
So without scaring too many people off, enthusiasm is great, but results are better.
Here are the current tasks:
Voice Actors:
A category that we have not focused on for a while, but we really need to get people on-board. Please go to the thread for finding about how you can help with voice acting.
http://morroblivion.com/forums/skywind/skywind-development/3022
NPC Face Generation:
All NPC need to be edited by hand, there are plenty of them so if you want to do some then there is a list of what needs to be done on the following thread:
http://morroblivion.com/forums/skyrim/skywind-mod-releases/3379
Modelling:
I’ll split this up into three different ways that you can help. We have a core set of things that need to be done. This includes getting the Armor, Clothing, Weapons and Creatures into Skywind. These need to be defined exactly how each will be achieved, but if you are up for the challenge then you can help with getting this process underway.
For Armor specifics go to this thread: http://morroblivion.com/forums/skyrim/skywind-development/3423
Another way you can help, but probably not as much fun, are the tasks of checking over our models and fixing them when a problem is encountered. The best way to get involved will be to join the chats and as issues arise, simply volunteer to look and fix it. Or you can actually do some testing and find stuff as you go.
Finally like any Skyrim mod, you are more than welcome to work on any aspect of the game. There are 5,000 meshes and textures each, so plenty to enhance.
If architecture of a favorite faction is your sort of thing, or flora and trees, whatever it is, then go ahead. It might be fixing a texture to better a fit a model or remodeling the meshes themselves.
Whatever you’re forte, it will pay to state in the thread what you want to work on so that you are not at conflict with anybody else, but here is a chance to immortalize your work into a game.
If you are interested then we are currently setting up a 3D modeling team where we will have people who can concentrate of certain tasks. We will not limit you in anyway, if you want to work on something by yourself, thats fine, but we also will have a group that will work together on producing outstanding assets. Visit the link below for more information on the modeling team: http://morroblivion.com/forums/skyrim/skywind-development/3691
Creation Kit / TES5Edit / Modding:
Have some experience with the Creation Kit or know your way around ESP/ESM data? Without directing you to anything specific, state what you know and you will be able to jump right in and help. Leave a message and we will get you into the chat and tasks will surface for you to help with. We will need potential script writers for various game mechanics, so if you are interested in figuring out with us how to achieve some of these things, then you will enjoy becoming part of the team.
Level Design / Editing:
Although the world of Morrowind is fairly set in what it looks like there is still a lot of work to be done in making it look better. First and foremost is the land texture editing. If you have loaded up Skywind you will noticed that land texture placing is by the process of an automated port. There are plenty of places that need hand editing within the Creation Kit to make the textures more seamless. Also check where you might want to do a little level design to tidy things up. We have ported directly from the Morrowind world but adding small aspects that enhance the environment will help to make the experience better.
If you have lighting or effect experience then there are all sorts of neat things that can be utilized for Skywind that you might be inspired to try or suggest.
Navigation-Meshing
Members of the team are systematically going through each cell, but it’s a time consuming task. We have some tutorials on what to do and we can help and direct you. This is good if you have a bit of spare time now. Check out the thread below for information.
http://morroblivion.com/forums/skyrim/skywind-development/3333
Coding / Scripting:
We have some tools that we are working on to help port things now and in future. We have some coders working on some Modelling tools. We use scripts to manipulate data as well, for various batch type operations. Any experience with the layout of data in all/any the Elder Scroll games will mean that you will be able to help with various needs and tasks. This is the core of setting up Skywind at the moment.
The thread below is does not specifically define anything that needs to be done, but it’s place that we have discussed a few aspects of tools that we might need.
http://morroblivion.com/forums/skyrim/skywind-development/3487
Quests:
Setting up all the main quests of Morrowind into Skywind is a mix between porting automatically and hooking up information manually. If you are willing to learn the process then this will be a major step in getting the game working. Please visit the following thread for how you can help.
http://morroblivion.com/forums/skyrim/skywind-mod-releases/3306
General Tasks:
As I said it’s a small team so trying to organize tasks is a little difficult if you don’t have any of the above skills or knowledge. The best thing you can do is keep visiting the forum and there is bound to be stuff that crops up. We will post them here and you might think you are up for the challenge

Idk if gopher would even reply. He probably loves morroblivion/skywind but most of his vids are posted on the Nexus website. might be a bit of a counter-priority for him to sponcer or direct modders here. Now if he could discreetly, then by all means. Personally I wish the team contacted the voice actors of the interesting npcs mod. for skywind. but eh.
i literally just recieved a message from him now here it is:
Sorry been busy and distracted. Going to make a video and post it in the next few days. Easier to do that and let them come to us :-)
in response i put:
fair enough, message me if you have any updates :)
i think its going relatively well and i will send him a message asking him if he could give a shoutout to the interesting NPC's mods creator asking him for the details of the voice actors or do you not think i should bother?
you can see the credits for voice actors in the mod itself, might be able to get contact details yourself?
ok I'll have a look but im not sure if they'll do the work for free because im trying to put myself through school at the moment. what do you guys think?
i will try and search through the actors and see which ones voiced dunmer for a start.

I'd like to see the voice actor thread make some progress, but sadly, there is just a lack of leadership and organization at the moment.
here are the actors ive found that voice dunmer:
Colin james fuller
Corey hall
James “biggs” highfield
Jay33721
Jezdamayel
Kelly parish
Lila paws
Malevolent mc
Matthew simmons ( megapiemanphd)
Natalie loftus
Zaf
there are some others that voice dark elf's but i think their voices dont sound correct to voice a dunmer.
this guy must do all dunmer voices, simply amazing :D
http://morroblivion.com/forums/skywind/skywind-development/3...
i know right, also do you know the ratio of male to female dunmer in morrowind? if you do can you send it to me so i can start theorizing which actors can play which characters
p.s i dont know how to give npc's voices and lipsync them so that would have to come down to someone else :)
Well guess what I just encountered on Youtube, smart approach of you guys, this should get atleast a few people over here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnBbeYZH4T4
ok now that thats up we should get a few (scores hopefully!!) coming our way
p.s i started laughing when he said one of the developers contacted me, am i famous now?? lol :P
(edit) should i ask MMOxReview or G.E.M.S to do something similar because i think that'd be a good move.
what do you guys think?
Hello everyone! I remember lurking around on this site before skyrim was released but then I sort of forgot about it. I just saw Gophers video and I'm here to lend a hand, if I can. I have no knowledge of well.. anything in this area. But the thing I do have is alot of time so I just thought if you need someone to to some tedious time-consuming task (something like going trough a list of 2000 numbers and changing certain ones) I'm your man! Just point me in the right direction and I'll do all I can!
If this is not needed at the moment I'll hang back but if the need arise just message me, I'll be around.
brilliant :)
well every little helps ill do some searching around the froums and find you a job give me a second!!
oh and also do you have a knowledge of anything at all or not? because it would help me find you a job
Well I would say I know quite alot about the using of mods, things like loadorder, finding what mod is the problem and things like that. But ofc that's when I have a working game as a starting point I think I could do that sort of thing around here too but I can't say that with confidence. Not that much to go on I know but yeah that's all I got at this point.
If you need any texturing help I'd be willing to help as I am pretty free at the moment and am not working on anything
for a start install skywind and walk around and discover bugs and problems and get yourself familiar with the game and then research the threads that help to fix them or a fairly easy task is to create npc faces at this location: http://morroblivion.com/forums/skyrim/skywind-mod-releases/3379
Dear Drumber
you should contact shadow and see which monster textures need to be done :) here: http://morroblivion.com/users/shadow
Ask Eloth about any retexturing projects. He's our head in that area.
I am not a modder, but I do have 6 years of lightwave 3D experience. I can model just about anything both organic modeling and hard surface. I am very good at building models to polygon targets, "working with a polygon budget". I am excellent at making UV maps. I am pretty good at texturing, and producing normal maps. I can definitely get a good basic texture on the model but there are people out there that are rock stars at texturing, I'm not one of those people. I am not a rigger, no really, I'm not a rigger, sorry but it's just not my thing.
Once I build a model I can package it in any format the texture or rigging person wants. I could also figure out how to format the model and textures into .nif packages.
Anyway let me know if I can help.
yeah what he said :)
Hi everyone! ^^
My name is Ben. And I was called by the mighty video of Gopher! :O
I'm a programming student (not sure about the term, but well...) and I, obviously, know a bit in programming! ^^
Apparently you need all the help you can get and Skywind is about THE thing I'm waiting for in the modding sphere! :p
So if I can be of any help, I'd be more than happy to give it!
I just have to say that I never made a single mod so far, but I'm a fast learner, so a bit of fiddling with the language and all should be right! ;)
I hope it'll serve a purpose! ^^
I'm currently unemployed. I don't know how long that will last, but I have quite a bit of free time in the meantime to help out. I've done a bit of modding, but nothing big. My main strength is writing, but I also have a programming background so learning a bit more about scripting isn't out of the question, either. Can't make any major promises, but I'd love to help out even a little bit if I can.
asahi you seem like you would be helpful here: http://morroblivion.com/forums/skyrim/skywind-development/34...
Hey, drumber
I just posted my offer to help with making models. Maybe we could work together on some things. I could build the models and make custom UV maps for you. You could make the textures. We could work together on the normal and spec maps. If we find a rigger and an animator we could really get something going.
Maybe we can get one of the devs to give us some direction.
Let me know what you think
Tenebrion wrote:
Well if you like tedious stuff, there isn't a more tedious job than navmeshing. I'm not going to explain what navmeshing is, because watching a video guide(which is linked in the thread) on how to navmesh will explain everything. Here's a link to our navmesh thread. http://morroblivion.com/forums/skyrim/skywind-development/3333
unseelie
due to your scripting background you could be useful here: http://morroblivion.com/forums/skyrim/skywind-development/34...
Hi all. I too am a Gopher subscriber and I'd be happy to help.
I am a frequent mod user but have little experience creating one.
I have a lot of experience with the Adobe suite of products, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, Audition, After Effects, etc. I have full access to microphones and recording devices should you need a particular sound effect. I have limited experience with 3D programs like Blender and Google Sketchup but am very willing to learn. I also have a lot of writing experience (a grad degree in playwriting actually) so if you need any scripting input I'd be happy to oblige.
Let me know what you want.
Good luck,
Deckard
Thanks Mehh after a quick overview of the thread and the video this seems like something for me! I'll look more in to it after a good nights sleep but I recon navmesh is something I can manage. If not I'll follow Trytonlee's advice. I'm officially onboard.
Anyone who wants to do texture or mesh related stuff, pm eloth or Machine, they'll get you started in the right direction.
Yes, if you are here to work on meshes or textures, PM Eloth or Machine. Eloth especially doesn't visit the forums as much, and prefers to use chat. So he may not even know if you are here and willing to work.
Perhaps I should create a small list of tasks that need doing and add it to the OP? Oh, and Mehh, perhaps you should divide the navmesh thread up like the old NPC thread, and have people sign up? SB has done Z, and Ironman has done what so far A-Z?
Oh, and I apologize if we don't have tasks for all of you immediately. Rest assured, that there is enough to be done in Skywind for all of you. We are frankly kind of unprepared for this big of an influx of people though. :)
Yeah, I was actually thinking of doing that to the navmesh thread.
Hey, just saw Gophers vid about this, and as he has never led me wrong before, I came.
Now, I've never modded anything. Sure, I've played a lot of games with mods but I know next to nothing about making one.
But, I do have a nice mike, I was partially trained as an Opera singer, and I follow a few other people online who are voice actors themselves.
So, I offer my services (meager as they are) to you guys.
~Uza
Hi Oneseraph, yeah that would be great if you find anything that the devs want us to do just let me know and I'll be glad to work with you on something!
Cool, as soon as I find something I will let you know. If you find something let me know.
What software do you use?
I use lightwave 3D, Max and 3dCoat. That said I can export to anything and import almost anything,
Hi, I have a couple of studio mics and would love to do some VA for this project.
I am a male and I only have a little experience with VA.
I will do! I use photoshop :)
hello my name is matthew im a voice actor and i like to help im 22 and vary talented bin a fan of the elderscrolls since morrowind spent maney hours playing it
Very thrilled to see Gophers shout out, thanks a million! love his videos and let's plays, now if only we could see the neverene encounter Jezargo and bill.... = epic :)
So, thanks again to the OP! :D
Drumber
I am going to build a mace. I will send you the UV map template 2048x2048 .png. You make the texture and I will render it with lightwave. That way we can work out our workflow and show the team what we can do at the same time.
To anyone who wants to do voice acting:
We really need someone to lead this endeavor. No one on the current team can take charge in it. Either because of time restraints, or they just don't want to. Is there anyone out there who could organize all of those who want to help with voice acting and get everything up and running?
Edit: Well, we do happen to be in need of some weapon models. :)
http://morroblivion.com/forums/skywind/skywind-development/3100
Just read the help wanted part to the top. The actual mod has already been merged with the master.
Edit2: Looks like the needed weapon meshes list got deleted from my account or something. I'll try and find a backup.
We have some work for you guys, we will create a topic with work that needs to be done.
If people show true commitment, we'll try and get you into chat. We discuss a lot of stuff in chat mainly, because, well it's just easier. We don't have everyone in chat because, well, we'll end up with a shit load of people saying "Oh, add this!" "Fix that pls!" "I think we(you) should add this!"
Also keep in mind, around 70% of the people who volunteer end up vanishing.
Here is a mace test mesh I made today in about 45 min. No textures, spec or normal maps. The mesh is all quads and can be poly optimized. Anyway I will send the UV map template to (Drumber) so the texture magic can happen.
ok so i dont really know about file paths for the voice files or how to implement anything, but i should be able to assign people to do voices and get everyone organized and gather all the voice over files and pass them on to someone who can merge them, i will need some help and guidance on how or who to give files to and input on picking people suitable for certain voices (if thats even a main concern at this point) ect.
anyways i really want to see the voice acting in this mod and no one is stepping up so i should be able to check in every day or two and assign people to voices and gather voice over files but thats probably all ill be able to do but at least it should get things moving
Be my guest. :)
We already have a thread and a few characters voiced, though some of them aren't very good and should be redone. I guess that is the place to start. Oh, and there is a guide as well.
If you want anything in the OP updated, just post and then one of the moderators will update it for you.
Good luck everyone!
Oh, and nice mace. I can't seem to find my list though. Just go ingame and create anything we are using placeholders for. Things like spears, as well as as a diverse number of swords. :)
Cool I will get it set up ASAP. Drumber and I should get our workflow worked out over the next few days. Once we get sorted out then we can figure out how to package the assets as nif files and start delivering content. Also how do we decide on the design theme for objects? Is there a review process?
Thanks, Oneserph
Our overall design philosophy is to stay as true to Vanilla Morrowind as possible, but to update those designs to be more detailed with poly counts around that of Vanilla Skyrim, or even exceeding that by a small amount.
So, a good place to start is the UESP article on the weapon you decide to work on.
Post pictures of your progress, and we can tell you if we agree, or disagree with your design decisions.
