Velothi/chimeri lost city/town

Submitted by lukkar on

We need ruins anyway.

It is a bit inconsistent that dwemer have a lot of remains but chimeri/velothi only some towers and several ruins. Maybe we should fix it and create it more depicted. I don't think it needs additional assets and it is very lore friendly.

Near number one we have some ruins already, near 3 too and in number 2 we have a lot of free space. It could be underwater or just over surface, claimed by vegetation or covered by dunes.

It would be good as additional place to wandering. Place with some story like Pompey. We had accident like "Sun's Death" and the "Year of Winter in Summer" Sth like archeological site. I really liked this stuff like in Fallout where each post apocalyptic place had some own unique story.

[External image]That would be nice to see, perhaps there could be an exposed part of a hill that shows layers of old ash somewhere, with an excavation tunnel dug through. There could also be some of those ruins just barely poking out of the muck and scum of the Bitter Coast. I'd also maybe like to see one of the strongholds be a bit more uncovered than the others, where the structure continues into a canton shape, with some small ruined buildings around it. That would probably be in an 'ash cave' though, and very narrow and unstable, with just parts of the ruins  poking out of the ash walls. It cold look sort of like a sand cave, only with ash instead, and the ash dune assets used all over the floor. Ash could sprinkle down from the ceiling to make it feel more like an unstable pocket of piled up ash.

Also, some stronghold lore from Gary Noonan (Wormgod):

"Best Westerns. The were basically fortified stronghold/checkpoint/hotels for travelers. There are no records of any of the strongholds ever being held under siege or used in any battles/wars, but it is quite possible that they were used for warriors as layover posts while travelling."

I could see them as being a point of shelter and temporary settlement to protect against ashstorms, 'fallout shelters' for Red Mountain eruptions and storms, as well as serving the dual purpose of a resting point/settlement.

felix already modelled these, though i didnt see them ingame

Velothi were nomads and they could live like ashlanders, but they had to have some shelters against ashstroms like ice mentioned.

Some parts will be stick out from ground level. Some will be more uncovered. Inside will be small interior quite similar to pictures underneath. It's only limited by landscaper imaginations.

Some skeletons and mummies inside fit well too.

For chimer I see it as partly sunken city. We got many cases when earthquake sank entire city. We had chimeri/dwemer wa,r then we can combine with some battle story too. Just create for future "archeologist" place where he can discover history of this place (this is article about fallout just as example).  Vivec is most close example of architecture of chimer, then we can just used ready assets. In more optimistic situation they could be a bit changed (add some signs of warfare or cracks). Everything sloping and disordered, a bit covered by plants and mud/sand. Underneath simple sketch. I hope plan will be better. Whole city is not too big. One or two squares.

Inside closed canton it could be interior a bit simliar to this one.

One big hall with many buildings one above other. (Just to differ sth from Vivec city)

It's very optional thing then it get really low priority but I think we can easy find someone who will do that, not pulling others from their work.

Roman done concepts for Vivec if he want to, he will be great in this task too.

"The Late Merethic Era saw the precipitous decline of Velothi culture. Some Chimer settled in villages near declining and abandoned ancient Velothi towers."

I'm not sure about large cities, since they are largely nomadic, but I think some of these settlements near towers and strongholds could be seen buried in ash.

can u make sure you're making these new ruins are the earliest velothi ruins, and not nordic, as these were already done.

Yeah, just to clear up, the ruins in the first screenshot are not Velothi, but Nordic. Velothi ruins would need to use the stronghold and or tower pieces/style.

@Ice Oh... I didn't know.

In that case Velothi ruins will be only that we had in MW. I thought that velothi towers it is too less to show their past presence. Now, I don't see point to expand them. Maybe add some damaged examples. For chimeri I see that we can just use balmora (I think it fits here best) assets and just burry them, maybe add some destroyed examples if anybody is willing to do that. A few connected houses with buried street between them that all. One or two examples for all. Of course near towers.
