Ok, I have been having some major lag while playing morroblivion. In some places there was so much lag I couldnt stand it. I found out however, if you disable obse (Oblivion Script Extender) this will kill most if not all of the lag, however this will also break some mods if you have them installed that require obse. Here is what I did exactly, I was trying to make it to where steam would show that im playing oblivion modded, So I then went and changed the name of the obse_loader to Oblivion modded + Morroblivion. I then started oblivion through wrye bash, well then I got this error saying something about coble version and not having obse or something. Sorry cannot remember the exact thing it said. So then I was like crap, OBSE isnt working now because i changed the name. So then I Change the name back to obse_loader. I then looked and found out that for some reason it look as if wrye bash didnt have the option at the bottom to load Oblivion + obse, it just had Oblivion. So I then renamed it back to that and loaded it, So I knew that obse was loaded. I then started obse loader and ran around with hardly any lag. I then went back to wrye bash and looked at the botton and it had oblivion +obse. So I then started it back up through wryebash and again, everything ran smoother and hardly any lag. Just was throwing this out there so others can try it out that have massive amounts of lag and see if this fixes it. I do not know what renaming the file and then renaming it back did but it did seem to fix something. Anyways thank you. Please let me know feedback and let me see how it goes.
I wonder if this can help
I wonder if this can help people narrow down why we have such lag. Hopefully this is some kind of really good clue that will help us... I just don't have the knowledge to utilize it...
Thanks for the report Lordms!
Most of the 'Lag" problems
Most of the 'Lag" problems happen because nearly everything uses some sort of script to do something. Generic scripts use 'placeholders' to make them more dynamic, and several scripts are always running at the same time. Sometimes they step on each other.
OBSE adds many new features to scripting and allows the programmer to do things he probably shouldn't.
Sometimes a creature will get caught in a rock or something and cause a lag while you're near it.
Your graphics card can cause lag or even a ctd if it's not a high end card. Some of the high-res textures used in morroblivion can cause a graphics card to choke.
Morroblivion pushes the limits of the Oblivion game engine to the extreme. Sometimes that's good, sometimes it's not.
:)
Huh. That all make sense.So
Huh. That all make sense.
So cutting obse, just means you're lowering the number of scripts being run: hence less lag?
Guess that makes sense.
yes but
Yes but, If you read what I put, I didnt just completely turn it off, I renamed it, found out that obse wasnt even running because of it being renamed, renamed it back to its original name and it turned it back on. So, OBSE is running, but after all that, it seems to be lagging alot less. So I understand how turning it completely off could liminate lag, thats the thing, I turned it back on, and bam, no more horrible lag! I dont know what renaming it to something and then back has done but it seemed to have fixed my lagging issue.
Wow, huh. Did you make a save
Wow, huh. Did you make a save while obse was off, and then load that save with obse back on. Doing that maybe would cut stuff out... I have no clue man.
Ideas anyone?
nope no save
Nope no save. Same save and everything.
ooooo. Then hopefully we're
ooooo. Then hopefully we're back onto something again. :D
I hope so
I hope so man. Maybe I stumbled on something with obse with morroblivion or soemthing. I dont know. I just find it awesome that I did that and boom the lag is gone. Maybe someone else can try it and see what happens and let me know if it did the same thing and we might be onto something for sure. Thanks.
Ya, I'm not running steam, so
Ya, I'm not running steam, so I can't test, unless you have any ideas, but I hope someone can use this to help me too!
:D
My oblivion and morrowind dont run through steam.
My oblivion and morrowind dont run through steam so yea you can test it. I was just trying to add my morroblivion to steam so pple could see what i was playing and would ask about it. Thats it. So yea you can test it out and try it.
"I was trying to make it to
"I was trying to make it to where steam would show that im playing oblivion modded".
Wait, I'm so confused now! So you were trying to add it to the steam list. So you just"changed the name of the obse_loader to Oblivion modded + Morroblivion" and then back to "obse_loader"?
Yes
Yes because I wanted pple to see what i was playing. So when I get on steam and then start playing morroblivion pple could see it and say "Hey, what are you playing?" This is why. To let my friends know what I am playing, thats it. If I would have just added obse_loader, then no one would really know what that was. Anyways it didnt work so yea, but somehow ended up fixing my lag issues that I was having. I use to have horrible lag in Balmora, Gnisis, and Ebonheart only the few places to mention, now, hardly any. So just either turning obse off and then back on seemed to do something. I say turning in off then back on because renaming it was kinda like doing that. So you can either just try renaming it or turn it off then back on. So: Turn it off, enter game, DO NOT SAVE, run around a bit, test it out, then, exit game, turn back on obse and boom the lag should be gone. I do not really know what this does, but it seems to help out alot for me anyways.
Huh. I'll try running
Huh. I'll try running oblivion without obse, walk around a bit, not save, and then resume playing with OBSE and see if I notice a difference. :)
Well did you try it?
Ok, I hope it works for ya.
Well did you try it?
Iceburg?
Iceburg?
Not yet, lol. I havn't been
Not yet, lol. I havn't been playing much latly...
I'm about to try, i've had
I'm about to try, i've had lag in game. I'll load through exe and then again through obse and see what happens
I've run through exe with
I've run through exe with little to no lag as expected now i'll go back through with obse and see what happens
Ok so i have now run with
Ok so i have now run with obse once again, testing in heavily populated areas while attacking casting spells and moving erradicly trying as hard as i could to make it lag (this doesn't usually take much effot just a populated town will do). To my surprise I had considerably less lag and my loading screens only took a third of the time. I'm not sure what that did but i'll take it!
Okay, so I got enticed that
Okay, so I got enticed that two people saw results. I ran it without the obse and lag seemed good, and so I ran with obse again. Seemed good.
However, when I compared it to results I had recorded while testing Hashmi's collision fix the results I was getting were within range as the ones I had recorded before. =/
Is there any way you guys (or someone) could use the console command 'tdt' to see exactly how many fps you're getting both before and after the fix? If so we could nail this thing down better.
If it is changing stuff, maybe its clearing out some cache or changing some ini file...
Sorry I couldn't help more than that :/
i was thinking it might have
i was thinking it might have something to do with some sort of cache as well. are you wanting a test before and after the collision fix or with and without obse?
Sorry, I meant could someone
Sorry, I meant could someone test the difference in fps after switching obse off and back on.
First, a basic fps test. Then play without obse. Then turn obse back on and do another fps test.
Like to see if your fps is affected at all after turning obse off and then back on again. If the second time you play with obse on is different than the first, then that means there's something to this. If your fps stays the same, then turning obse off and back on isn't making a difference. However, sense we've already done this, I don't know how we'd be able to test it. We need someone who hasn't done it to take inital readings and then report any difference after running once without obse.
Does that make sense? lol, I talk with my hands, and sometimes its hard to explain things without them, lol.
And ya, perhaps it resets some obse ini file or something, I'll poke around a little.
It makes sense to me. I will
It makes sense to me. I will still try this test just to see what kind of results we get for comparison to whoever runs the test without having previously switched obse on and off
I'm experiencing similar lag
I'm experiencing similar lag in fps either way it goes, my low was 2fps and high 24 fps while running obse. the lowest i hit without was 10fps and my high was 28fps. I usually lag around water and people. If i get water people and rain all together i bottom out. the only real difference i noticed was my recovery time for lag is way higher without obse. i think this is why i bottom out while running obse. I noticed that with obse i'll stumble to 10fps and then fall to 2fps. without obse i stumble to 10fps and quickly jump back up to 24fps. this is probably because i need to update my hardware; I'm still running the same hardware i was running when i built this comp for the initial releas of oblivion lol.
hm..
hm.. I dont know. Thought this would be a good try for pple. I seemed to have noticed a big difference in it, so I just thought I would throw it out there.
lrdsqrl: So do you maintain
lrdsqrl: So do you maintain those benifits when you turn obse back on? Are you running mods that affect water, such as realistic water, or something that lets you drink water etc?
Lordsms: Ya dude, cause if you have stumbled upon something it would be great, so I for one am glad you shared it! :D
the real big benifit for me
the real big benifit for me was my load screens comeing back up to speed. while not completely eliminating my lag, it has reduced it to a tolerable level.
No I'm holding off on any heavy graphic upgrades till i add a little ram and upgrade my video card. I think it's just the ripples and reflections on the water.
the whole thing reminds me a little bit of reseting a router that won't talk to the modem. Maybe obse was having trouble processing some information from the game and running the game without obse purged some of the information allowing it to be replaced.
That makes sense, on all
That makes sense, on all three accounts. :p
I just realized, I only tried this on the laptop, so I'll try to take all the fps readings on my desktop. :D
..and maybe I need to reset my modem, lol
I have good news and bad
I have good news and bad news:
The bad news: while there was a big boost in fps with obse off, turning back on it was the same. I saw no net change in fps, or if I did, it was only by 1 or 2.
The good news: Reseting my modem saved my internet from what was becoming extermely painful slow speeds.
Sorry! =/

So..... Any comments?
so is there any comments towards this?
