Well, hi guys.. I know it's my first post here and i don't know if it's good to put that as a first post but here i go. It's been a long time since i'm watching progress made by Morroblivion without actually posting anything (not even registering, what a lurker..) and i must say i'm impressed by how far it went. I actually never played Morrowind before so it's all new to me, but i noticed while playing Morroblivion that a lot of npcs had too many "common faces".. no one actually looked unique to me, most of them looks just like the regular Oblivion npc.. so i decided to run Morrowind, just to see, and then i noticed a lot of npcs looked alot different in Morroblivion than they looked in Morrowind.. wanting to help but having absolutely zero modding experience, i tried to experiment things in the CS and started working on that project, which i will now explain..

Basically the goal of this project would be to make the NPCs (and not only important ones, i mean all) more like there Morrowind counterparts, or slightly altered to make them more unique. I'm using quite a few cosmetic mods and ressources for this project, and i'm also looking for some texturing help because i'm trying to reimplant all Morrowinds Tattoos Dunmers, Orcs and Nords had. I also managed to use beards without creating a new race for each beards by using the meshes and textures from the Equipable beards mod. However as i said, i'm using quite a few mods and ressources for all that and so those will be needed in order to play it.. i'll try to provide everything needed into a single file when i'll feel like it's ready to be released for testing and such. Actually i was forced to create 4 "new" races for it to work, and planning to add a 5th one. I think i will be able to reduce that to just 4 if i manage to port that scarred dark elf race i downloaded into a single face-aging texture. Those races are Morrowind Dark elf, Morrowind Nord and Morrowind Orc, all made in order to not alter the original Oblivion races with the modified aging textures, and, in the case of the Dark elves, the ears (i used a mesh from a mod to have better fitting Morrowind-like dunmer ears) and i plan to add Morrowind Argonians too.

I already made a few npcs from the start of the game and if people are interested in this project i will provide screenshots, continue to develop it and with luck be able to release an alpha/test version for you guys to see..

So yeah basicly i'm just asking if that sounds interesting to you guys, or useless/uneeded/whateveryouwanttosayhere ^^ thanks for reading me

PS: I apologize in case my english seems weird, as i am French and therefore it's not my native language, but don't worry i use an english version of the game to avoid languages conflicts. Again, thanks for reading!

You're actually not the first to notice that!

Lots of people have contributed to making the over 1000 npc faces each unique and morrowind like. Try searching the word 'face' on the help requested thread. Write now I believe Didact is in charge of the Great Face Replace, so you may want to get in touch with him so you two can organize / cooperate.

Hope that helps!

Ice

Welcome Crony!

Yeah, like Iceberg said, you definitely want to get in touch with Didact. You don't want any conflicts with the faces he's already made are is working on.

Otherwise, great to hear, especially about the beards! Socucius Ergalla definitely needs a beard, as do the Nords, Dark Elves, etc. Wish you best of luck!

Well thanks a lot guys, i thought as much someone would have come to that already lol, well i'll do as you guys said and try to contact didact. Noob question here: How do i search words in a specific topic? because i tried to find and failed... :/

About Socucius, well it seems i did him already.. here it is, i just played with him a bit, it's possibly not the final version:

[External image]

And since i took some more screens i might as well show them.. so here goes Jiub (eyes not supposed to glow, will attempt to fix that):

[External image]

And here goes the female Guard in the starter boat (very hard to come  by actually.. i'm not satisfied with it yet):

hi!

Some time ago i released a pack of hairstyles converted from morrowind(better heads) to oblivion, there

is about 30 hairstyles in this pack, it will give back the good old morrowind  feeling if used on npcs.

Please try it out, and if you like it, this should be a part of this project.

Thanks Eloth, this will come in handy as i had the problem to not finding corresponding hair for some npcs! i'll be sure to put it inside the project

Oh hell yeah Crony! I'm really liking Socucius new beard! Jiub and the lady off the boat also look really close to the Morrowind equivalents! Damn, how do you do that, and how long does that take! I'm impressed! Definitely do Cauis Cosades!

I'm also liking your beard on that Nord, Eloth. Great work! I've always wondered why Oblivion Nords had no real facial hair.

Thanks Robert ^^ i just use some cosmetic mods as i said, but it takes me around 30min per face, sometimes more, since i'm a perfectionist.. i like when the things i remake are well remade lol, that's why I have Morrowind running while i'm editing faces in  the CS, so that i can go look straight in game at the npc i'm remaking, turn around etc in order to remake it as better as possible. Glad it pleases you ^^ i will do Caius next then ^^

This is great stuff! Jiub looks particularly good. Interesting that you said that you'd made extra races to deal with the extra details - I was wonding if that would be the case, with things like the tattoos and the Nords' face paint...

Daaang! These faces look really good!

Thanks ^^  yeah i wanted to make new custom races for them because i thought lore-wise, in cyrodill, the races are somehow different looking than in Morrowind so they should be separated.. plus it would have altered pre existing Oblivion npcs otherwise

Actually i think i just finished remaking all Seyda Neen's npcs.. but i'm tired right now so i'll just go to bed, and post screenshots later for you guys to see ^^ for now... well i'll just give you this one, robert :p I made it quite quick so i might get back to him later though, he looked better in the cs:

Wow that's great. But the smile looks kind of creepy, maybe you could make it a bit smaller?

Looks good Crony, although I must admit like Vivec, Caius' smile does look pretty creepy. Maybe tone down the smile a little bit? I know how hard it is getting the "smile" right, because I myself had a hard time getting a somewhat decent mouth-demeanor on Jiub.

Ha ha yes i must admit, Caius looks like a pedobear with this smile XD i'll rework him, as i said i made him quick ^^ while i'm remaking him, here are a few screenshots from what i did yesterday, along with a link to the full collection of what i've done:

- Foryn Gilnith, the hand tatto texture on his face is very crappy i know, but i made it myself and i'm far from being good at texturing.. think of it as a placeholder until someone does a good version, knowing it works with "age textures":

[External image]

-Tandram Andalen: I don't have any tattoos from Morrowind so i just used what looked the more appropriate to me, again that can be fixed if someone is willing to provide me with the good age texture.. i also took a bit of liberty here and edited his hair, i think it fits him well like this

[External image]

-Jiub: Again Jiub, updated with earrings provided by Eloth (thanks again man) and now using the same race as every other Dunmer in Morrowind, therefore getting rid of the uneeded self-race he had. Thanks to my girlfriend for that <3, since she actually managed to put the scar on the aging texture

[External image]

-Tolvise Othralen: Then again i took a bit of liberty here, putting her a different hair that i thought fitted her well

[External image]

-Elone: And again, another liberty for the hair here, i tried my best to remake her face though but she is really hard to redo in the oblivion face engine..

[External image]

-Hrisskar Flat-Foot: I put the best looking beard i had on him, but it still isn't the same as the one in morrowind.. again if provided with it i could add it and improve

[External image]

Link to the Screenshot Gallery, for all the other characters i remade: http://photobucket.com/morroNPC

Feel free to give critics, as i love to improve with them ^^ i would like to know if the little liberties i took are good for you and such too, if something must be changed etc..

For now: I'm actually working on the Morrowind Argonian race i plan to implant in my project, using various ressources again, to look as close as i can to the Argonians from Morrowind; i'll also do some other Seyda Neen npc i have left, as well as Caius Cosades who i need to redo

Looks awesome! I like the tatoos!

But DAMN, those Dunmer have HUGE chins!

I'm really enjoying the updates: I can't wait to see these in game. I'll check out your album right now ;)

Draren Thiralas looks off, maybe to gaunt or something.

Elone and Raflod look really good- they catch your eye.

It feels like Hriskar Flat foot's eyes are a little too bright, but other than that he looks awesome. On that note, a lot of people have glowing eyes, or black eyes, or whatever. Are you planning on keeping that or adding pupils?

That's my observations. Other than that, I think these faces are stupendous. They have a lot of variety: I wouldn't think that just one guy made all of them. Some I thought were cute, some made me dislike the npc. It all felt really, well, real. Well done so far! Keep us updated!

Ha ha, yeah Robert, i know for the chins, i just thought looking at the morrowind faces that it fitted well actually, having a face like this.. to me it's more like Morrowind Dunmers are like this, while Cyrodill's ones are more 'human looking" because they mixed with other races there.. just my thought though so maybe you guys think i went too far with their general design?

As for Draren, looking at his Morrowind counterpart really made me feel like this guys was originally off lol, i mean really, he was that ugly.. really sure i have to change that guy? i made him that ugly on purpose actually, just asking again there to be sure i was wrong or not lol

Thanks for the compliments overall, especially for Elone since i spent a lot of time trying to get her right.. for the eyes, the brightness is a problem i'm having quite a lot.. because in the CS the "glowing" is not shown, therefore i end up sometimes with glowy eyes when it wasn't intended, and as i'm a total noob for textures and such, i can't really do something against it.

For the eyes, well the black ones i put on Fargoth, as well as the red ones i put on most of the Male dunmers were used on purpose, since Fargoth actually had those black eyes in Morrowind, and most of Male Dunmers had red and black eyes without white, and sometimes without pupils. I'm glad you think of them as "real" though Iceburg, as it's a really nice compliment to me and make me feel like i did good work lol

Crony, I've been working on the hand face tat - it needs tweaking to compensate for the stretch on the forehead, but give me a shout if you'd like it when I'm done (no probs if you've got your own plans).

[External image]

Of course i would like it! anything would be better than the crappy one i made actually lol, plus yours looks good already, can't wait to see the final ver! just be sure to make it an "aging texture" and not a regular face texture though, as i put the extra things on a race with that, and i'll gladly use it in the project ^^

Okay, cool :)

I'll have to look up how the age textures work so I can take that into account - I'm a bit new to working onto meshes myself - and then I'll let you know when I'm done. Yay!

Nice! here is an example of what i mean, it's the one i used for Jiub:

[External image]

It used the original age texture 60. However as i don't know anything about the "headdarkelfmxx_n.dss" files, i wouldn't be able to help you for this.. but maybe you do. Since i'm noob, i don't even know what's its use is, so i just used the base 60_n.dds for this texture... maybe someone could help me/us with that there, since a custom _n.dds file may be needed. Well, anyways, can't wait to see your results!

Ah! Thanks for posting that! I know how to do it now. The .dds is the face texture itself, and anything with _n added on to the filename is the normal map, which carries surface bump info, and lets you create the illusion of detail by saying which areas are brighter than others. So with the facegen thing, you have 1 texture which has the basic starting colour info for the face, and then all the different normal maps which add different levels of wrinkles and lines as your character gets older.

The only thing is (as far as I understand it, anyway) with making a tattoo onto the normal map is there won't be the aging option with that face, so perhaps people with them will have to be a sort of middling age.

Yes, we have to decide to which age we actually put the tatoo, it's either that or making multiple version of it using the different ages texture.. which would actually be quite a work lol. I suggest you choose the 40.dds one, or even 50.

As for the normal map thing.. you know how to do that? if you do, could you please make one for the example i provided? that would be great, as i said i just used the normal 60_n one..

Hey Crony! I didn't realize that the origionals look that way, so in that case they're perfect!

Keep up the great work!

Right, right. Hmm. Would it be possible to add extra slots into the ageing range, so like the face tattoo could be assigned to say 41.dds? Rather than using the existing taking place of the existing 20, 30, 40, 50 etc. I mean. That sort of thing would open up more options... (Don't know if it would be possible or not.)

I do, yes! Or at least, I have a plugin for GIMP that generates one, as per the walk-through at the CS wiki, here. Or do you mean that you altered the original, and now have no 60_n for Dunmer male? I have one knocking about, but your best bet is to re-unpack the .dds from the .BSA archive. Means it'll be a higher quality without the re-saving that goes on when sending files via email and so on.

Thanks Ice ^^

Badger => It's actually the exact point of this texture, it is made to use the 41-42 etc range and not replace anything, so yes ^^ i think the crappy one i made used 42 actually ^^ . Since you have the plugin and all, is it ok for you if i send you the png file extracted from the dds, and then you could make me a normalmap for it? because i indeed have no real _n for the dunmer scar, i just used the 60_n that i renamed 53_n (53 is the age texture i assigned to the scar)

Not so sure about Hrisskar's cat-like eyes.. I thought in Morrowind he had pale blue human eyes. Chins kinda freak me out... just a tad bit.

Ah! I seeeeeee. Heheheh, listen to us being nooby. X)

Ok, sure, I can have a go. Bung it to badgerlegs at yahoo dot co dot uk. But it is actually a working normal map (age texture) there as it is: If it didn't work, Jiub's face would be completely black. :)

Badger => Thanks man i'll send it to you right away ^^ i know but i think it may lack some things for the scar, you know, it would prolly look more detailed with the correct normal map..

bigfoot=> The eyes for Hrisskar are not completely accurate, but it's the best eyes i had, since it looks like he has smaller pupils than any regular person in the game.. it gave him a very scary look in my opinion, and i could only grab it with those eyes.. if someone would make me better eyes to reflect the real ones then i will gladly use them instead ^^ as for the chins, most if not all the male dunmers in Morrowind really looks like they got this.. but i can try reducing them if that's really needed

EDIT: Update!

That should complete all of the Seyda Neen's npcs i'm aware of.. if i missed anyone, by all means, tell me, so that i can fix that. Well, here we go:

-Thavere Vedrano: Nothing much to say here, except she looked older in the cs

[External image]

-Erene Llenim: Quite satisfied with this one actually, turned out pretty good

[External image]

-Fine-Mouth: Here is my main problem. Argonians. I didn't expect them to be so HARD to reproduce, but they are. With the way Oblivion made Argonians, it's nearly impossible for me to reproduce them as they were in Morrowind, unless someone creates a new head mesh that looks like the old ones, but i think that's not gonna happen. Some argonian hair from Morrowind could help too, but still won't resolve the problem.. well, anyway, i tried but i'm not satisfied with him.. as i couldn't reproduce him, i tried to at least make him unique.. just tell me what you guys think, but i'm personally really disappointed, especially since Argonian is my fav race..

[External image]

- And as you can see, i was at least able to put argonian feet on npc.. the thing is, players won't be able to have them unless i put them in a chest somewhere and they have to equip it, which is a system i don't like.. i tried to find a way around, but it seems the scripted feet for argonians aren't made for vanilla bodies already, plus i would need to edit it to alter only Morrowind Argonian race instead, and i have absolutely not the enough knowledge to do something like this, so for the time being i think it'll sadly only be available to npcs, just as beards for Nords..

[External image]

So yeah, as i said, that should take care of all Seyda Neens npcs.. if i missed one, please by all means, tell me

Could you please fix the glowing eyes? Erene's eyes look really wierd.

Hey, you should make a WIP esp, so that we can try these guys out. I know what you're saying with the argonian faces, but for now I think it works.

I've played oblivion for so long that all of the npcs look the same: seems like every npc I've seen before. So to see all of the uniqness in these faces, it makes me very happy. So even when they aren't 100% lore correct, or 100% true to morrowind itself, they're still 100% unique, and that variety- hand crafted, is enough to get me to come back under that suspension of disbelief I had lost.

So please, keep this up so long as you have the steam for it. And it would be awesome if you released an esp every so often, perhaps every time you finish a town?

Vivec => As i said earlier, the eyes don't appear glowy in the cs.. i'll try what i can, but if i don"t have non-glowing versions of some of the eyes i used, i won't be able to do much with them =/ i'm no texturer at all

Ice => Yeah i was actually thinking about this, releasing one esp per-town, only thing is i used quite some mods as ressources for this pack to work so i'll need to pack everything up and not miss anything before i do that lol.. but i'll try ^^ i'll also try to keep this running as long as possible =)

Oh, ya, I didn't think of that. Well, when you have it, I'd love to download it!

Sounds good brother!

Alright, here comes the update so that i can finally say Seyda Neen is complete! i'm in the process of packing everything up for a release, and if everything is ok with those screenshots and i have nothing to update, i'll release it later today ^^

So here we go..

-Fixed Glowing eyes on Teruise and Erene: It's the best i can do atm i think, i found another version of the eyes i used before, and this one seems to glow less, hopefully ^^

[External image]

[External image]

-Darvame Hleran: The siltstrider girl, i forgot her last time so here she is

[External image]

-Processus Vitellius: He is the killed taxer-guy from one of the first quests ^^

[External image]

-Tarhiel: The second killed npc, the one with the Icare flight potion ^^

[External image]

-Fine-Mouth: Modified him a bit, i like him more with this texture actually

[External image]

So here it is, now i can finally say, Seyda Neen is done ^^ tell me what you think

EDIT: Update, here are the download links for you guys to test in game

Nice ^^ hope i didn't forget anything in the pack.. tell me what you think of it! ^^

Edit: I would really appreciate some feedback ^^ i need to know if those are good enough before i move on others >.< thanks in advance!

Okay, I havn't been playing much, but if / when I do I'll try hard to test yours.

Alright, nice ^^

I tested some of the Seyda Neen NPCs. It was wierd. I reacted as if they were actual people I was meeting. I pitied one guy, thought another was cool, one scared me, etc. That subtle feeling that you're believeing what your seeing was there. Like, they were unique and set apart from the normal randomly generated faces of oblivion that we're so used to. I liked it very much.

You should most definitely continue your work. I'll download your next esps for sure!

Thanks Crony!

Nice ^^ thanks ^^ so it all worked, i'm glad i didn't forget anything in the pack ^^ i'll try to continue asap, actually i'm quite busy so sorry if it takes a bit of time =p

No problem, take your time, but I'm hungry for more!

:D

Nice work Crony! I tested it out, and while I thought the faces kinda looked weird in the screen shots because you're so close up, the NPCs actually look legit when you walk by them. They look a lot closer to Morrowind's that's for sure.

For some reason, I'm getting black eyes, so I'll have to do a reinstall. I probably just didn't install right.

Nice ^^ the only black eyes you should get are with Fargoth, as he is intended to have them.. if that's with another one though, then it's prolly a glitch in the install, or i forgot something in the pack, or you have an incompatibility problem due to another cosmetic mod

On another note, i still didn't have time to work on these, i hope i'll be able to make some more soon enough

I only had black eyes with fargoth, so I *think* all the files are right, unless I had the right ones from another cosmetic mod by chance, lol

Ya Crony, you've got to make some more npcs! I'm gonna be in bloodmoon for a while, but I'll be sure to make visits to Vvardenfell to greet the new people as they come in. :D

" the NPCs actually look legit when you walk by them. They look a lot closer to Morrowind's that's for sure." -totally agree. :D

I hope this gets updated to work with the latest version of the mod.
