Other landmasses in Skyrim

I stumbled upon an interesting link while browsing reddit and thought you guys might find it interesting or useful with regards to the prospective morroblivion to skyrim port.

http://ppsh-41.tumblr.com/post/13145143504/entire-tamriel-landmass-built-into-skyrim

Good luck!

Razorfiend,I have looked at

Razorfiend,

I have looked at that link and read all that Jessi from Finland has wrote, and looking at those very revealing pics of the other land masses shown around the skyrim landmass,it looks as if it could be possible to get morroblivion and oblivion all integrated into the skyrim engine by using the CK [when it arrives].As if all the land masses are already there that is a major part already done imo.?

And if most if not all objects etc were replaced by the skyrim objects it would be perfectly legal too.?

This is groundbreaking! The type of thing I'd expect only in a Elder scrolls game.

Worst case scenario, Morroblivisky will be much easier. Best case: its official dlc. Yay! Go Bethesda!

It might be possible to stick

It might be possible to stick oblivion/morrowing in the same huge worlds space as Skyrim so you can walk between them, but it would add another layer of trickyness to things. I guess we'd have to offset the exterior world cells to line up and replace the existing ones, which means replacing the height maps and LOD map and then going over the border by hand in the CS to smooth out the border between our new stuff and skyrim. I'd guess it would have to be a part of the converter though so Empty would know more about how possible it is than I. It could cause some annoyances with naming the exterior cells and making sure other things in the game that reference those cells use the correct name... or maybe it wont, I dunno. Also Morroblivion was in its own parent worldspace, you couldnt walk between them when it was first converted.

About the other landmasses

About the other landmasses that are there on skyrim.

I have noticed that Beth has left out the function to disable border regions in the skyrim.ini file and also in the skyrim_prefs.ini [you could walk off of the map in FO3],so I have copied across the function line from the FO3 ini file.

But if you try to walk towards the Red Mountain in the morrowind region, after a very short time it still says "you can`t go that way" so I quess border regions can`t be turned of in skyrim. It also will not let you walk back again after that message, even with tcl off.

So it looks like they are teasing us.:(

And it also gives me a windows error leading to skyrim.exe if I try it.

Apparently Bethesda made a few land spaces
for other provinces... Morrobliviskyrim? :)

Agreed Sabrith but that is

Agreed Sabrith but that is why I was trying to turn of the border region blocks, like can be done in FO3.

But even though Beth has put the land masses there,we can`t turn of the border blocks,so the only other way would be the hard way like we did with morowind.

I've got to imagine the landmasses were done for a purpose, as it would be a large waist of time to put those in where no one would see them. Hence I think that the 'turn back' problem will be solved when they release dlc. There is more to this than we know...

I have took some screenshots

I have taken some screenshots facing N,S,E and W from the top of "Red Mountain" and have some bad news.

Facing east the land ends right below the mountain.

West is ok and all the land is there right back to skyrim.

North is ok and South is ok.

But the landmass is cut from South to North at the Eastern base of the mountain.

So about 3 quarters of the morrowind land is missing I think.

That is so VERY strange! Why would they do this?

And ya, in oblivion there were different world maps (say for shivering isles) but i've noticed that the map NEVER changes in skyrim, even if your in a deadric realm. Which makes me wonder if you can add landmass / change the world map...

Umm! imo it might be possible

Umm! imo it might be possible to add the other half of morrowind and the bottom bit of the oblivion land mass when we get the CK,because firemoth and lots of land were added that way,but maps would need to be added for that area, and some form of transport to the extra land too.

But thinking about the 200 year jump in time, maybe we don`t need to add more land as a good story line [like a flood after the fate of morrowind and most of tamriel and the oblivion crisis, could have left just the sections on the map] or something like that.

And then big main quests could be added to include new story lines for the regions [in the CK] using the skyrim resouces.?

Realm of Oblivion?

It seems that putting Morrowind and Cyrodil is easyish. Don't criticize me, I'm just learning about this. But how would you put the Realm of Oblivion into Morrobliviskyrim? Was it just another land in Oblivion accessed by a door? You need that.

I reckon it would be easier

I reckon it would be easier to just stick the converted Oblivion/Morroblivion areas in their own worldspace and have a few border-gates to teleport you between them, maybe some mage-teleprt options as well. The LoD terrain Bethesda made of the other provinces are already there to complete the illusion of them being joined, its just 1 loading screen away, and we can use the walk-in-teleport doors that are used in caves so you can just stroll straight across.

It'd probably be easier to stop random dragons from appearing in Oblivon/Morrowind if they arent in the same parent space as skyrim.

Great find Eloth, the land

Great find Eloth, the land vertex/texture records were something I was dreading!

In other news, things are comeing on along alright with my little program, I've had to stop digging into the records for now because I really need a GUI to help me organise and go any further. Progress might be a bit slow as GUI's are antoher area ive never done anything with! (I'm getting there though)

maybe they put the land

maybe they put the land masses in there as an easter egg, for people who had played morrowind and oblivion to see the old lands again and get all nostalgic

Yup. Plus Bethesda may use that area for future DLC as well.

These guys are making

These guys are making all-tamriel heightmap for skyrim (but there's a crater on the place of Vivec). They also promise to release it to the public when done:

Interesting find Gothryd.

Interesting find Gothryd. Thanks for keeping your eyes out there for us :D

Sucks about Vivec though. But that just must means they're doing it in Skyrim's timeline.

Good find.. But should we

Good find.. But should we wait until Bethesda at least brings out the first DLC before working on this? If they are working on it then it'll conflict though I'd wager that a full fledged expansion would likely either be in the Summerset Isles, Elsweyr or a daedric realm possibly Azura's (might meet the Nerevarine!)... But I do understand that it may not matter at all since we're just using Skyrim's engine to bring a classic back... At the moment I'm playing around with the CK and I am very impressed... I was dissapointed in the major differences between Morrowind's and Oblivions CS, in Morrowind I could make full storylines and dialogue making was a breeze... Oblivion was too frustrating and confusing so I gave up direct modding.. Skyrim's is new but somewhat similar to Morrowinds in some aspects and it is easy thankfully! Learning the scripting will be a pain.. But i'll get there

Thanks Gothryd! I can't wait

Thanks Gothryd! I can't wait to be able to explore tamriel through the Skyrim engine.
Robert: Ya, stinks about Vivec, but if they do all of Vvardenfell, it wouldn't be too hard to make our own minor tweaks to it, so we should be okay.

Didact: You bring up a good point. I think the easy answer is we don't have to worry about it. We still need to finish Morroblivion for Oblivion before we get too involved with Skyrim. (Though if there are some people that will do conversion, but won't work on the origional, we don't want to hold them back). But my guess is by the time we Complete Bloodmoon and Tribunal, all the DLC will be released. Morroblivion is a slow growing mammoth.

Creation Kit: You are very beautiful. Unfortunatly, I do not understand at all how to script in your language. I hope I will learn very soon, because you are a very, very cool kit.
