I just started a game in Morroblivion. I am a level 1 dark elf and have not really completed any quests besides those necessary to meet up with Caius Cosades. I ran into major issues when I tried to proceed from this point during a variety of quests.

I think the major issue I am having is in the conversation topics of specific characters. I'll outline everything that I have tried to do and when it stopped working.

First I joined the fighters guild in Balmora. It gave me the quest prompt that I joined and I accepted the first quest to go handle the rat problem (The rat problem quest was also added to my journal). After I entered the woman's house and killed the rats that attack her, though, she only says the line to me about waiting for the fighters guild to come help her with her rat problem when I chose the prompt "rat problem". Since this was a dead end I figured I would try other side quest lines to see if anything else would work. I also noticed that even though I was technically notified that I was a member of the fighters guild, no one from the fighters guild would trade with me or offer training.

Next I tried going to Moonmoth Legion Fort to try the first quest that is available there from Radd Hard-Heart. I was instructed to go handle the nord causing trouble near Hla Oad. When I approached the Nord he was not aggresive and had no topics to continue the quest (Should have said "murderous outlaws"). I killed him anyway and returned to Fort Moonmoth and accepted my reward, which was the first time a quest was technically able to finalize.

I also tried to finish the "Death of a Taxman" quest in Seyda Neen, but couldn't because Thavere Vedrano did not have any of the necessary prompts to continue the quest. Also, after confronting Foryn Gilnith about the murder he admitted his guilt, then I said I understood, but after that he never gave me the ring to return to Thavere and I wasn't given the next journal entry.

As a final effort before consulting this forum I traveled north to Gnisis to try to join the Imperial Legion at Fort Darius. I talked to Darius, the man who should allow you to join, and after selecting the conversation topic "Join the Imperial Legion" Darius only said the same thing as everyone else in town, that I should look for Darius if I want to sign up. Very frustrating. Also, the Chaplain in the basement of Fort Darius, after asking him about Joining the Imperial Legion, said that I had been expelled from the Legion and asked if I wanted to repent, but he did not have any other conversation topics after that.

Could anyone give me their opinion of what is wrong? Like did I install the game incorrectly, or is there an update I am missing? Everything else seems to be working fine, but I don't want to continue with the main quest line if eventually I'll just run into dead ends like these. I installed Morroblivion following the video tutorials since I was only familiar with Morrowind Mods, and I have Version 031. Thanks for any help you can give.

I have no idea what to tell you. I have personally done all of the quests you listed except the Nord thing. All of these quests work fine for me. I have done all of the Fighters' Guild quests in Balmora, and all of Darius's Imperial Legion quests. You need to be 4th level before Caius will give you his quest. It sounds to me like you have something seriously conflicting. You haven't said anything about what version you are using, what mods you have installed, etc.

For the rat quest, did you go upstairs (you have to go outside and up the stairs to your left as you exit the house)? There are 4 (I think) more rats up there. Kill them then go back to the rat lady to complete that part of the quest.

For Death of a Taxman...did you find the body? Assuming yes, then returning to the guy in the Census and Excise office should allow you to complete it (he's in the back building with a guard). Turning the ring in is a short side trip, and not the main objective.

The Nord was also neutral when I encountered him, but there are some dialogue choices about  being profitable or something. If you select that option he says yeah and then proceeds to try to extort you for "protection money". If you refuse he attacks. You can also taunt him into attacking.

As for joining the Legion, I don't know. I haven't got there yet :)

I've played through the game a couple times and finished all of these quests, so if you guys aren't having, or haven't heard of, any of these issues it must just be the way I installed the games and mods that is causing the problems. I have only the Vvardenfell Imports, Morroblivion v031, and the World Transport mods installed (which I think are just the bare minimum you need to run Morroblivion). Would you recommend I use any other mods?

I was also confused while following the video tutorials which explain the total installation. When and where should I install the Morrowind game? I thought that would be discussed in the videos so I waited until well into the process to do it (before I installed the mods using Bash). Like, should I install it in a Bethesda directory with the Oblivion folder, or is the Programs folder okay? Or just a separate folder that is not Programs?

Thanks again.

You should only have ONE world transport mod installed - either David's world transport mod that is linked on the Project Release Thread, or my CAT mod.

I really need to edit / update those videos (hoping to get to it this week, I have been doing a ton of travelling in the last month).  If you are on a Windows 7 / Vista / Server 2008 computer, you should install Morrowind in C:\Games\ or something so that it is NOT in C:\Program Files\

Otherwise, it doesn't matter where or when you install Morrowind, as long as the installer for the Morroblivion Mod works.  No Morrowind resources are used - the installer just checks to make sure that you OWN the game of Morrowind (i.e. that is is installed on your computer).

Apologies for bringing up an old topic. I just wanted to say that I recently did "Death of a Taxman," and I ran into a similar issue with the quest. Thavere Vedrano expresses shock at Processus's death, but the dialogue stops there. She doesn't go into the dialogue (that appears in Morrowind) about seeing him in a fight with Foryn Gilnith recently, or explain that she wants his ring (the dialogue topic "Processus' Ring" showed up for me, but it just shows up out of the blue with no context in the previous dialogue). The quest was still completable for me, but only because I remembered that Foryn Gilnith was the culprit from playing Morrowind before (and he still does all of his dialogue correnctly), so the issue is a minor one: Thavere Vedrano just doesn't give the tidbit that would be necessary for a player new to the quest to know where to go. Is this a known issue, or is Thavere actually supposed to give the dialogue and I'm experiencing an anomaly?

Edit: I am running v.051 complete installation. I do have a number of other mods, designed for Morroblivion and for Oblivion in general, so my chances of a conflict are certainly higher. I will post my load order if needed.

Im having an issue with the deliver cure disease potion quest for house Redoran. Ive tried speaking to Theldyn, and have 2 cure disease potions in my inventory, but the topic to give him the potion isnt coming up.

Im also having an isue with the first morag tong quest- Ive killed the target in vivec, and my journal has updated to confirm that Ive killed him, but when I speak to the quest giver he just gives me the writ and restarts that quest.

Can I have the console commands to change these quests to completed? Thanks.

Tanweth,

For anyone that has not played Morrowind before, when the body is found there is a tax record on it.

Reading that record shows the names of those that owe taxes and the amount.

In morroblivion, you are correct that the women in the lighthouse does not mention the fight between Foryn Gilnith and the taxman, but looking at the record and asking each named person about the murder works.

And Foryn Gilnith also owes the most and has not got paid next to his name.

I think it`s better that way,as it fits in with the asking around bit.
