[Merged] Skywind Weapon Fixing

Thread for making all Skywind weapons usable ingame:

HELP WANTED:

I really need someone to convert over some of our Morroblivion weapons so I can put those ingame as well as the few models I currently have.  We have several nice new models that would be a shame to lose.  Here is a current list of the models that we need, so if you would like to try your hand at converting  (or remaking) just let me know.  Needed Weapon Models

Release V .01

I have spent probably 10 - 20 hours working on this mod, and the result is that every weapon should now work properly and have models.  The entire Mesh structure has also been completely altered to a more user friendly format, similar to the vanilla Skyrim format.  This mod should be completely clean, especially since I made the whole thing using only TESV Edit, but I wouldn't go merging it just yet.  I've only had the chance to try out a small number of the weapons, so there are probably a few bugs that need to be fixed first.

Before we get to the download links, I'd like to give a big thanks to the people who have had their work included in this mod.  In no particular order, they are:

  • PrivateEye
  • Krazz
  • Wulfharth
  • MasterofShadows
  • R3van
  • Artisanix
  • InsanitySorrow

I have not received a reply back from Artisanix or InsanitySorrow about using their resources in Skywind.  I've gone ahead and left those resources in the download, however if I receive a reply saying that they do not want their resources used, then they will be promptly removed.  Everyone else has enthusiastically agreed to let us use their mods.

The mod has been split into 3 parts to make uploading easier, and here they are:

Edit:  Has been merged with master

Okay, I've decided to make 4

Okay, I've decided to make 4 new keywords MWWeapMaterialChitin, MWWeapMaterialBonemold, MWWeapMaterialAdamantium, and MWWeapMaterialDreugh.  If anyone has any good reasons as to why we shouldn't use these then you better speak up or forever hold your peace.  I'm not entirely sure as to the consequence of making these, except that none of the existing smithing perks will affect these weapons without modification, so once again I could use some more advice.

Edit: Okay, since there is only 1 bonemold weapon, I decided to throw it in with chitin.  I also put goblin and riekling weapons in with steel.

Edit 2: Just got the weapon models from Clint, and was able to get one working before bed time!

Thanks

So after looking through the files, I've got a basic understanding of what else needs to be converted.  There are no spears, so if anyone would like to start on those and tell me, I can get a list of everything else that needs to be converted.  Thanks in advance.  :)

P.S. (I'd do this myself, but I don't have a clue how to work any kind of modeling software)

Oh and how do you guys feel about using this for sunder?  I can't remember what the one we used for morroblivion looked like, so I don't know if it is better or not.  And I KNOW you have an opinion on this one.

Okay, so I've decided to go

Okay, so I've decided to go hunting for some more Morrowind weapon mods.  This guy has some amazing stuff and I'll probably use all of it.  It is just too bad I'm not working on clothing as well, his ring of Nerevar, and ashlander amulets are amazing.  I also want to use This mod as well, even though it is not very similar to the original, because it looks cool and makes more sense.  Any objections?  Here is the original for comparison:

I thought I remembered someone posting this awhile back.  That's why I went looking for them.

Okay, here is a list of a few of the meshes that still need to be converted over, not complete yet, but I'm filling in as I go.

Shadow, the glass dagger looks awesome, great work!

I vote that we use as many mesh/texture replacer mods as we can, so long as we have permission and they fit the origional morrowind / oblivion style. :)

Thanks Ice!

Okay, I updated the main post with a help wanted notice, and a current list of missing meshes (which is very likely to grow larger), so once again, if anyone knows how to convert meshes I would greatly appreciate it.

Edit: Fixed the list so it actually works now!

Thanks Mehh, but I think I figure those out after I'm done with all of the main weapons, and have a nice break.

Still no takers on converting the weapons over huh.  I may just have to release an uncompleted version.

Edit:

Okay, I'm thinking this mod for Goldbrand/Eltonbrand.  What do you guys think?  This is a community project so I need to make sure I'm not doing something the community doesn't want.

Also, if you see any other Morrowind-esque weapons mods out there, be sure to let me know!  It would be great to find new models for some of the more common weapons.

Here are some more screenshots.  They don't exactly show the scope of what I'm doing, but I threw in shots of the most interesting weapons.

Edit: Here are some more screens, and an updated missing mesh list (in the OP).

Those original Morrowind models definitely need some serious retexturing or remodeling or both though.  I never realized how bad some of them are....

Second shot: Kewl but isn't that sword supposed to be on fire?
Third shot: They could use a tiny bit of work to bring them up to Skyrim standards
Forth shot: Fork looks fine, but I cannot tell what the weapon on the left even is
Fifth shot: Both look fine
Sixth shot: Were they directly imported from Morrowind or something? What's up with the blade in the blade in the right dagger?

I'm not much of an artist

I'm not much of an artist either, so I leave the job of fixing the weapons up to Skyrim standards to you guys.

By the way, I would have been done yesterday, but I decided to redirect all of the weapons to a new Skywind mesh structure, for example:

Meshes\Morrowind\Weapons\Chitin

I'm about halfway done, and I still think I should be done by the end of the week. Also, the meshes are all renamed to more acurately represent that they are.  With a MW, TR, or BM prefix, and no annoying U and S.  For example MWSteelShortsword.nif

Oh, and about some of your observations on the photos Mehh

1st Photo: You should see them actually ingame.  Probably the most detailed and awesome weapons in all of Skyrim!

2nd Photo: Nope, that's the Ebony Scimitar, not Trueflame. Plus I don't know how to create effects like that.

3rd: Those models are actually quite detailed, though I do admit Goldbrand is a little too shiny

4th: Adamantium shortsword, shocking I know.  Those weapons are in the greatest need of fixing.

5th: Yeah, that is the way I got it.  Not much I can do there.

Thanks Robbinsmooth, do you have any preference to which kind of weapons you want to work on?  There are some in basically every category that need some serious work.

Actually Mehh, I already have used all of those, well except for Goldbrand, I chose a different mod over the one you posted. But I'll look into weapons of the third era.

Here, use this.  Elderscrolls

Here, use this.  Elderscrolls wiki isn't good for a lot of things, but they are good at pictures.  Are you thinking about doing all of them, or just some of them?, because I think we already have a good shortbow model from Morroblivion that can be converted.  Otherwise, I look forward to seeing your work.

Also, do you have an estimate for how long it would take you to make a weapon model?

Edit: Okay, I've gotten permission back from Krazz and PrivateEye over at the Skyrim Nexus.  Now we are only waiting for permission for the use of Goldbrand and the Fang of Haynekhtnamet.

Edit2: Hey Mehh/Iniquity, are there any specific weapons from that third era mod that you would like to see used?  That file size is intimidatingly large to look through without knowing what is really good and similar to Morrowind.

I don't remember much of the mod, it has been quite a while since I actually last played Skyrim, but I guess I can go in-game and check. Maybe I can take some screen shots to compare to their counter parts. Plus if I recall some of the weapons are from Oblivion too, which might be good for Skyblivion.

Hey could someone check their Morroblivion install for me (it is not currently installed on my machine).  I just realized that the chitin weapons in Morroblivion have non-standard paths, meaning they might have been replaced.  I didn't remember this from my playthroughs, but if we really do already have good Chitin weapon models there is no point to robbinsmooth creating new ones.

Thanks Cemkey.  Well

Thanks Cemkey.  Well Robbinsmooth, I don't supposed you would rather work on another weapon?

Thanks Mycorn, that is much better now.

Okay, I downloaded the third era weapons mod, and copied all of the meshes that we have weapons for into my working mesh directory.  There are 27 of these, however, some of them look too dissimilar from Morrowind for my liking, and should be changed in the future.  However for right now I guess they are the best we have.

Edit:  Here are some more screens if you guys are interested.  They include some new models I have found such as; The Ice Blade of The Monarch, Chrysamere, a Sixth House Bell Hammer, retextured Goldenbrand, and of course, everyone's favorite Umbra.  There are also some weapons from the Third Era mod, including a new and improved ebony scimitar and daedric tanto, which your might remember from my last round of screenshots, as well as a daedric staff, and iron wakazashi. Note: I am still going to include the original meshes in the download for the replaced weapons (at least the ones that I actually have), in case someone wants to switch back to the originals.

Also, I now have permission from Wulfharth (for the fang weapon), and am now only waiting to hear back from the creator of the Third Era mod, Insanity, and R3van (creator of Umbra).  So far everyone has seemed enthusiastic about us using their resources.

Aw shit i was really hoping

Aw shit i was really hoping to do the Chitin weapons!

Anyway i might as well post up what i made last night. I went ahead and made re-made the Chitin club. Thanks shadow for linking me Elder scrolls wiki, the only good pic  of chitin on the web i am sure!

Anyway, it was bloody hard to decipher the original morrowind club (its a mess of blurry pixels), so I took some artistic license and re-worked the design a little. The wiki describes Chitin as being laminated layers of insect shells and shit and I had a little trouble trying to get a good design out for that, so I came up with the idea for Chitin to just be large insect like lames/plates. I also figured that the plates could be (theoretically) heated up and then molded/bent into place and left to re harden up. This sort of allows for some design direction for re-making the Chitin armour.

BUT if you guys feel that chitin is all sorted then i shall move on! would love to complete the set though...) I do have some ideas for re-making the iron armour and the weapons, so i might move onto them.

I Also agree with Zilav, that sword does look outta place in morrowind, its too clean. I also think that some of the model meshes need remaking as thay look blocky and weird.

Sorry Iniquity, am having trouble understanding your comment.

Do you want me to put more spikes in? if so, i sure can. And i'll chuck some more plates in too.

Just being careful to not overdo it and put crazy spikes in everywhere. remember theres other weapons in the set, so i'll be able to add things that might not be so good for blunt weapons - like spikes for example. And serrated edges.

Zilav: Ah yes, I don't really like that one either, but I've only found two possible replacements for that, and I picked the best one.  Hopefully something else will turn up though.

Wow, that is really nice Robbinsmooth.  I like it just the way it is, but i guess there is always something you can fine tune.  You can still go ahead and work on Chitin weapons of course if you really want to, it is just that they aren't the most pressing need.

Sure thing.  The ones that currently have no models at all are the shortsword, broadsword, and spear.  So those would be good ones to start with, but you can pick from any of them really.  But just because you are doing iron now doesn't mean you shouldn't finish up that club and upload it so we can use it.  You've already done an amazing job, and it is probably better than the Morroblivion one.

Also, would it be to much to suggest that you do a steel dagger?  There are probably 10 weapons that use that model and I can't finish because I don't have one.  But once again, you are free to do whatever you want.  Fine if you don't want to though.  I can always use the default Skyrim one as a placeholder.

Thanks Ice.Iniquity.

Thanks Ice.

Iniquity.  Actually, I was just planning on using the Skyrim variant for all of the artifacts (Mehrunes Razor, Staff of Magnus, etc), at least for this stage anyway.

Well, I should have everything done today minus bugfixing (This mod has NOT been thoroughly tested) and some missing models (I will use placeholders).  I haven't done crafting recipes though, but I will do them later after a nice break working on something less gigantic (perhaps making books show the correct static inventory model).

Edit: Oh, and does anyone know a mod with at least one good spear model?  I don't have any spears, and am probably just going to use a staff as a placeholder.
